Kellie has been in love with stories in all of their forms for as long as she can remember. Admittedly, sometimes that means falling into places like Stars Hollow and Sunnydale, but books have always been her true love.

Kellie spent part of her twenties living in Galway, Ireland and swooning after various lilting accents but is now back home in Ontario, Canada.

I was hoping to glean some exciting new tidbits from this book but really didn't. Most reviewers and seasoned authors would know a lot of the methods suggested in the book.

It's easy to read, sectioned well and is not bad overall, I think newbie authors that are going it alone might find this very beneficial.

The book tackles the usual locations of where you can seek book reviews and uses a scoring system on effectiveness, potential effectiveness that was quite good. Whether all will agree with what's best and what not is open to the individual.

As a seasoned book reviewer and publicist I was hoping to learn if there was anything I was missing in the way of methods for promoting and review gathering for my authors, I took away a few things but not what I had hoped for.

A 3 star middle of the road book on this topic, I've read better and read much worse. It will be helpful to some authors if they have zero idea how to start and feel lost in it all.

Many thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for a copy to read and review.

I was a little bit surprised when I saw this book on Netgalley, but since it was by an author from who I read a series once and I was curious to find out what 'tips, tools, and tactics' would be discussed I decided to read it. It was a short book anyway.

Most of it is OK, I guess although there are a lot of things I think people would already know about since she stated, many authors are also readers so they might already know about Goodreads, Librarything and book bloggers. The book states multiple times that it is not okay to complain about bad reviews, pay for reviews or swap reviews with other authors. (It's of course sad that this needs to be said, but I'm glad she said it).

What I didn't particularly liked was her suggesting multiple times to mail bloggers directly. Even though I don't find that particularly annoying, I know a lot of people who do.
And she says in the beginning that if things are not clear from her book, you can always use Google. I agree that you can always use Google, but should a reference book not make things clear, is that not what it is for?

Also, although she spends time explaining that the product itself should be good and needs to be edited, I found a few spelling mistakes (it takes something for me to notice usually). Which again, I don't find that bad, but the whole book was less than 50 pages, so I don't think it would have cost so much (time) to have it edited.

What I thought was a little bit funny or perhaps strange was that this book was on Netgalley, while basically the biggest thing it's explaining is Netgalley. So, people who are going to find the book there are obviously already aware of the existence of Netgalley and are already using it (even if only for getting ARCs and not putting on their own books). However, the most interesting thing I thought was a link to where she explained what Netgalley looks like for a publisher (which I hadn't seen before).

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I read through this book in about 30 minutes. It doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a quick, non-fiction book to meet a very specific need. It's aimed at Indies. Does it's job quickly and efficiently, and is an easy read. For what it is, it's a great read. My only qualm with it is that I like a bit more of the author in a non-fiction. I can get info like this one google. Which is fine, and it's great having it all in one easy to reach place, but I like to hear about a person's experience as well. What worked for them, what they liked, a bit of their story. There wasn't much of that at all in this book.

Featuring concise, straightforward roundup of the major tool, services and strategies for finding reviewers for our books, Kellie Sheridan's book is an indispensable resource for author/publishers and small presses.
Even just the thorough description of the workings of Netgalley from the publisher's point of view is worth the price of admission. And there's a lot more, equally useful.
The sort of booklet to have handy when working out a publishing strategy.
Great value, highly recommended.
