I received this book from Bethan House in exchange for an honest review. I found this was a pretty great read for me. When I read Christian fiction I find most of it to be pretty unbelievable with unrelatable characters and that is because they make the characters unbelievable so I tend to stick to those Christian fiction books that are more good vs. evil with a lot of action and excitement. Well I decided to check this one out and it did not steer me wrong this time.

Beyond the Silence was a very compelling story full of sadness, danger, rumors, gossip, hope, and romance. I couldn’t help but read this one quickly as I continually wanted to know what was happening next.

The authors did a great job of expressing the emotions that the characters were feeling in a very realistic way. The attraction between Lillian and Woody was also very well written. I felt sorry for Jimmy and all of the trauma he had seen, as well as the fear he felt. Of course, I w

I am impressed with this collaboration between Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse. I’ve read several novels by Tracie and enjoy her style. Kimberly is known for her excellent suspense, and while I don’t read a lot of this genre, I wanted to try this book because of the authors. Rich in characterization, setting, suspense and plot, the combined skill set that Tracie and Kimberly bring to the table makes this a very entertaining and compelling read.

This is the second collaboration of the Peterson and Woodhouse duo, and it is even better than the first. I am not sure if Tracie Peterson normally writes suspense novels, but Kimberly Woodhouse does..... and does very well. Thus, I knew this would be a good read; but it surpassed my expectations.

The book is set in the late 1890's, which is not the normal setting for the suspense novels that I typically read, but it works fine for the story. The story revolves around Lillian Porter

I enjoy a good historical. And I love a good mystery. Beyond the Silence gives readers the best of both with a dose of added romance. Lillian wants to do something that matters, and when she accepts a job as a nanny, her grandfather disowns her. There's no coming back. When her train finally takes her all the way to California, she is confronted with information that her new employer may not be who he seems. All she knows for sure is that there is a little boy who desperately needs her and she f ...more

I have no idea what the title brings to your mind as you read it. I thought it might be something beyond the grave, but really was not expecting the level of suspense that the authors Tracie and Kimberley brought to this historical fiction novel. I truly disappeared into the story and was lost in it for the two days it took me to read it! Many times as I read with bated breath to find out what would happen next I had to remind myself this IS a novel, it is fiction, and I am not in the middle of ...more

This story opened with a bang. From the first paragraph, it was hard to put down. I have found out, that when these two authors write a story together, that is how their books will be. The story takes you through so many places and lets you see it from several different eyes, it keeps you turning the pages.

Right off the bat, I felt so bad for Jimmy Colton, the little boy in the story. You can't blame him for not talking after enduring what he has. His family is strong, I will say. Lillian I tho

I absolutely love author Tracie Peterson. This time she has partnered with Kimberly Woodhouse to write a fantastic story about a young woman who leaves her home in search of a new life. It poses the question, how many women could actually leave everything behind and go into the unknown. Lillian decides to go out west and become a nanny. Everyone starts to think that her employer actually killed his wife. Is she the only one that believes her didn't do it? Is anyone going to help her? Is she fall ...more

Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse have written a book will bring you to tears. A book that captures your heart and takes you on a very emotional roller coaster ride all the way through and doesn’t let it go until the very end of the book. I shouted, cried right along with these characters. There is so much love, anger, hate, love, understanding, determination and faith in this story. You never knew what to expect next. First let me say, I have never been disappointed in any book that Tracie Peterson either wrote or co-wrote. This book was no exception. A young boy witnesses the brutal murder of his beautiful Momma. The murderer threatened him to "never say a word ". Jimmy took those words to heart and spoke not a word at all. That is until his father, Woody, hired a nanny. (Lillian) Lillian seemed to bring out the best in Jimmy. He gained weight...even began to laugh out loud, a sound that was music to his fat ...more

BEYOND THE SILENCE starts with a bang and doesn't let up all the way through the book. Colton's wife is brutally murdered and everyone believes Colton did it. His son has not spoken a word since the day his mama died. And Colton is shunned by his own town. Virtually run out when he dares go to the store for supplies. But the real murderer is still free and will stop at nothing to get what he's after.

Somewhat predictable, Lillian is almost too perfect, but Colton was real and my heart

This is a fine little story but there were some implausibilities that really got under my skin, hence the two star rating.

The whole idea that this small little town that gossips about everything and knows everyone’s business and are even really good friends with Woody, would turn on him, have no idea that his son hasn’t spoken since his mother was murdered, and have zero desire or impulses to think they should look for an actual murderer instead of the wonderful ni

Thank you Litfuse for this review book.
Rumors and gossip have destroyed more friendships, more careers, and more lives than I'd like to think. Fear and suspicion have destroyed even more. In the small town of Angels Camp, in the old west mining days in California, rumors, gossip, fear, and suspicion surround Woody Colton. In need of a nanny for his mute son, he advertises then invites Lillian Porter to join his household for little Jimmy. It's all on the up and up. The housekeeper is a mot

From the first page, Beyond the Silence kept me hooked. The Prologue sets the stage for the meaning of the “silence” of a dear little boy. Then we mix in a father who is self-condemning and full of guilt; and a nanny from Indiana who is determined to follow her dead parent’s dream of going west but if she does her grandfather never wants to see her again.

Beyond the Silence was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed. I loved the Colton family. Woody was such a good man who had to deal with nasty people and judgments when the town believes he murdered his wife. His poor sweet, innocent son is suffering the most since he witnessed the murder and has been mute ever since. I'm not giving anything away you find this out right away. I truly felt for this family and the hardship they were facing.

Lilian was wonderful addition to the family when she tak

WOW! I expected to like this story...set in the West, good guys and bad guys, a love story. All things that I enjoy reading about. However, I was not expecting to have this story touch me personally. But it did. I identify with the little boy Jimmy. His mother was killed and Jimmy witnessed it. Jimmy was told that if he ever said a word to anyone about what happened, the evil man would come back and kill everyone else that Jimmy loves. So Jimmy decides to never speak. Jimmy feels that he is resp ...more

A wonderful Christian novel. Yes, it is a love story but it so much more than that. In this book, we see both the evil and good of people. It is not all rose-colored, though. The evil does have its day. It is a book of love & acceptance of people different than we are. It is a story of having the courage to admit one's wrong and seek forgiveness no matter how hard that is. Although I suspected the ultimate outcome, there were enough detours to keep the reader very interested. Sad to see the ...more

Lillian heads west to become a nanny, much to the dismay of her grandfather. She enters into a household that was disrupted by a tragic crime and now must try to help a mute little boy. The author deals graciously with several topics, including adults who gossip and condemn without reason, others who are cruel to a mentally-challenged young man, and still another who commits crimes without remorse. This novel is well-written with an interesting plot and well-developed charcters.

Tracie Peterson is one of my go-to authors. In Beyond the Silence, her partnership with Kimberley Woodhouse raised my standards of her books. Beyond the Silence is a wonderful story about Lillian Porter, a young woman who fights to break through the ignorance and net of privilege and safety her grandfather has imposed on her. Lillian is a great character, although I think she handled things a little too well, a little too smoothly, all things considered. She gets angry, but she never really exhi ...more

Win win!

It was refreshing to read a Christian fiction book that actually taught Christ crucified for our sins with characters who loved intensive bible study, and who incorporated scripture into their daily lives.
