I first read this book in 2015 just after finishing Alice's debut novel Solitaire because I needed more Nick and Charlie in my life. There was no Heartstopper: Volume One then. Suffice it to say, I loved it.
Five years later and I still really enjoyed it but I'm feeling a little different towards it, for two reasons. The first being that I can't help but feel like there's an element of fetishisation in this novella and I'm not 100% percent able to stay unbothered by it. While on the one hand I'm

It's no surprise that I once again love a Alice Oseman book. She is one of my favourite authors, if not my favourite author alongside Cassie Clare.

In this novella we see Nick and Charlie a little bit over two years after the beginning of Heartstopper and a over an year after the events of Solitaire as they are struggling a bit in their relationship when Nick is preparing t

Oh the heartache!!! the angst!! The softness 😩💛 This is set after the Heartstopper comics (which I adore by the way; they are the kindest hug) and it lovingly ruins you with emotions as Nick and Charlie go through a sort-of-break-up as Nick prepares for uni, but Charlie has to stay behind. I think it really dealt with insecurity, but from a mental illness perspective, quite well. No excusing behaviour, but also making space for how it is just not easy for neurodiverse people to cope. Anyway I lo ...more

I swear bullet points reviews are the best!

-I was expecting to like this more than the other novella because Nick and Charlie are like cuteness overload
-but I mean I was expecting way too much because of the comic heartstopper.
-Also, Charlie is my fav so I thought I would like this a lot
- I wasn't expecting a sad story (I know things get better at the end) Why is this???
- The characters are different from heartstopper I get it's two years later or one but still
- I need to stop comparing it to h

Nick and Charlie have been together for over two years and now Nick is about to leave for university at the end of the summer and Charlie will still be in school, left behind. Nick is very excited about university and can't stop talking about it and Charlie hates it whenever Nick talks about it but doesn't know how to bring it up with Nick. They both want to continue long-distance relationship but anonymous people on Tumbler tell Charlie otherwise. Charlie thinks that may be they will end up bre ...more

It was cute. Predictable and fluffy without a lot of substance, but cute. I'm always going to enjoy these characters after reading so much about their relationship in Heartstopper. There's an emotional attachment there that makes me invested in them as a couple. I also think that Oseman does a good job of capturing all the emotions that go through your mind when you're moving on to university. Excitement, fear, stress. It feels like a long time ago since I was at that same life stage (over 15 ye ...more

I don't think Nick and Charlie 'work' in this format. I was so looking forward to this and it just fell very short. The way that I fill in the gaps of their characters and personality traits in the graphic novel were not represented in this writing style. That isn't Alice Oseman's fault but it didn't make it an enjoyable read for me personally. I liked getting a futuristic look at them because the graphic novels are set in their high school years. But it didn't feel at all necessary and I wish I ...more

This quick read made me happy inside. My heart is still smiling!

Nick and Charlie were first introduced to readers as side characters in Alice Oseman’s Solitaire. But I first met them in Heartstopper, Volume One, a graphic novel depicting the start of their relationship. I’m not sure if I was supposed to read them out of order, but my heart doesn’t seem to mind. I love Nick and Charlie!

This simple, sweet novella captures some big emotions and fears that so many of us have gone through or are goin

I was desperate to read more stories with Nick and Charlie in after finishing the Heartstopper graphic novel series (here’s hoping there will be a part 5! 🤞) I adored that series so much that I had given each novel a 5 star rating.
So when I saw that there was a novella containing the two of them, I had to pick up a copy straight away.

In Nick And Charlie, it picks up a little later than when Heartstopper is set. Nick is in Year 13 and about to leave to go to the University of Leeds. However, his

Being back with these guys a little older, was a delight. Nick was 18 and Charlie 17; with University and long distances afoot, their relationship moved to a position of insecurity for the first time in a while. Their journey in this novella was a bit painful to read for fans, seeing them go through couple stuff was hard. It all felt super realistic to that age group.

That said, I loved reading about later teen life. Their routines, their coupledom and how they were perceived by others as a coupl

OMG, Alice Oseman's novella Nick and Charlie is truly cuteness and sweetness overload!! Squee!

“I have been going out with Nick Nelson since I was fourteen. He likes rugby and Formula 1, animals (especially dogs), the Marvel universe, the sound felt-tips make on paper, rain, drawing on shoes, Disneyland and minimalism. He also likes me.”
