Mean Girls but make it slasher! It's fun, messy, a bit ridiculous and super entertaining.
I had a blast, it's a perfect read for Spooktober.

“BuzzKill” - “Sigma’s till the end!”
★★★★☆ (4,5)
My love for “Pink Horror” was born the moment I read one of Wendy’s novels and she became a “If she writes it, I’ll read it!” author for me. So far she has managed to hook me with each story and “Buzzkill” was no exception.
“Buzzkill” is the perfect blend of 90’s slasher, sense of humour, teenage drama and a lot of drinking!
I had a blast reading this one and I am absolutely watching “Buzzkill” on TUBI next to see if things play out how I imagined them.
Thank you NetGalley for my ARC, I leave this review voluntarily and in my own words.

The only thing this was missing was the HOT TO GO needle drop. But books can’t produce sound, so it’s still a five star read.
If you’re a fan of Wendy Dalrymple, you’ll know her writing pairs perfectly with this type of story. The novelization of Buzzkill plays out in the way all great novelizations do—like an extended edition with unique creative juice. Since we’re in Nora’s perspective, the nods to her relationship with “Drunk Nora” and finding clues makes this read like a detective story meets sorority slasher.
The “rhymes with” recurring gag gets a lot more play in the book, and several expansions like this add to the overall humorous tone.
Nora is an even more endearing (and endearingly messy) horror heroine on the page, and Dalrymple’s zippy writing style makes the slasher scenes a joy to read.
If you liked the movie, or even if you didn’t, you should give this one a read! Buzzkill is a refreshing entry into the slasher genre that should be digested in any format.

Pink Horror Queen Wendy does it again!! This was exactly what I was looking for in a slasher. Funny, campy, very overly dramatic and everything seems so big, because that’s how it was when you were college age! Let alone being in a sorority house. The characters felt fresh, real, and made me laugh while being simultaneously annoyed and suspicious of most of them. The kills were fun, and sad, but the book moves fast so you don’t feel sad for long! Killer kept me on my toes and I really appreciated that. Loved seeing how drunk Nora’s brain worked and how her clues to herself helped her solve the murders! Super excited to watch the movie now too. Thank you, NetGalley, HarperCollins, and WENDY for the arc!

Oh my god this was so freaking good! Perfect for spooky season! We have Nora who is supposed to be sober sister but she gets drunk and sort of witnesses the murder of her sorority sister! When she gets drunk again drunk Nora takes over and she remembers tidbits of the murder so she’s trying to stay drunk because she leaves herself little clues
The thing is her sisters are sick of her being drunk and trying to solve the murder because they think the boyfriend did it! So the night of the big party they are watching Nora like a hawk because they want her to be sober but she feels like time is running out to figure out the murder so she manages to get drinks! This was funny as hell because drunk Nora’s antics
The sisters the boyfriend who really did the murder!!! It was a fun ending too we really don’t know what’s gonna happen next and what made the book even better was when I was done I went and watched the movie version on tubi!

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK Just One More Chapter for the advanced digital copy of this book! I was so excited for the chance to read it before I watch it on Tubi. I’ve had Wendy Dalrymple on my TBR but was happy to start with this one.
Once again, “the book was better!” What a great slasher just in time for October! Sober Nora and Drunk Nora were like two different characters but I love how determined she is to find the killer. The internal dialogue is my favorite part. She’s witty and sharp. The characters were well written and the plot fun. This was a very entertaining and atmospheric read with a few laugh out loud moments. The book cover and story both are but chaotic but in a good way.

It was a very good slasher story ! I haven’t seen the movie on Tubi, but now I’m very interested in seeing it ! This book doesn’t read as a movie script at all, it’s a full on story with a great character arc. Nora is a good hero, she witnessed the murder of Sarah, the sigmas president, but can’t remember what happened if she’s not drunk. Her drunk ego is leaving her clues that sober Nora must understand. As more people are getting killed, the stakes are very high. I liked how determined Nora is. Even when her sisters don’t believe and trust her, she kept going and trying to uncover the murderer. I think this is a very good book for spooky season. Fans of the slasher genre will very much enjoy this book!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an arc of this book, opinions are my own.

The partnership between TUBI and Wendy Dalrymple has been pretty incredible to experience. I follow Wendy Dalrymple, as my heart's Queen of Bubblegum Pink Horror, and she started promoting this media pair. I'm unsure if I would have raced to watch this movie without her connection to it. But of course, I loved it, so funny and unlike any other horror/slasher movie I've seen in ages, super unique. I recommend BUZZKILL on TUBI, so cute, so funny - weird to say about a slasher film, but it works!
Now it's so exciting to get the novelization, Wendy Dalrymple style. Her Nora is still cute, but also has a sharper internal dialogue, which Wendy Dalrymple is so good at, she's always placing us in the mind of someone with unlikable traits or habits and making us care for them! She rounded out the other characters as well, made the suspense stronger, and, of course, the horror was even more horror! This is an excellent novelization for a fun film, bringing more to the story, yet able to stand on its own as a great slasher novel.
I hope this is the beginning of a long partnership with quirky and unique stories to follow, if not, I'm grateful that I got to be here for it when it did happen!
Thanks to Wendy Dalrymple for such a fun few days, getting to enjoy a fun movie and find a new fave book. Thanks to Netgalley for a chance to read and review BUZZKILL before its expected Publication Date: October 2, 2026. Thanks to One More Chapter (HarperCollins UK) for the this early eGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily providing an honest review.
Premise
After a drunken night that ended with a murder, a sorority sister attempts to solve the crime through the power of binge drinking.
Liked
* Fluffy, insubstantial, irreverent, lightweight storytelling
* Alcoholism isn't cool, but I have to admit Drunk Nora is a cool concept.
* Inverts the virginal Final Girl trope with some success
* High body count and enough gory deaths to satisfy any slasher fan
* The water gun is hilarious.
* Billy Snuggles
* Strong sequel potential
Not for Me
* Glamorizes, if not condones, heavy drinking and campus Greek culture
* Very light touch on class consciousness
* Lots of red herrings to fit the classic slasher theme
Closing Comment
A very cinematic story, this book features a troublesome lead who somehow turns a rather fantastical and nonsensical concept into riotous fun. What it lacks in depth and social commentary, the story more than makes up for with insane kills and psychedelic hijinks. Keep your expectations in check and you will have a blast.

Buzzkill was a delightfully chaotic little adventure, and I had a lot of fun with it! Wendy Dalrymple knows how to keep things moving, with plenty of humor, personality, and enough twists to make me repeatedly question whether I had any idea what was going on.
The characters were entertaining, the pacing kept me turning pages, and there were several moments that had me laughing out loud. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to say, “Just one more chapter,” only to look up later and wonder where the evening went.
Did everything work perfectly for me? Not quite—but honestly, the sheer entertainment value more than made up for the occasional wobble. I came for the story, stayed for the chaos, and left feeling thoroughly entertained.
A fun, quirky read with plenty of buzz.
4 stars!! Would happily recommend to readers looking for something funny, lively, and a little unpredictable.

A genuinely funny yet stressful slasher from Wendy Dalrymple. For fans of Scream, Happy Death Day, and Freaky.
A slightly meta look at the Sigma Sorority sisters trying to work past a fellow sister's murder.
But Nora doesn't think they caught the right killer, and the only way for her to remember the happenings of that fateful night is to get drunk. The problem is, she's the sober sister and bodies are piling up around her.
The book/film cleverly take the idea that when someone blacks out from drunkenness, they can remember things from previous blackouts, that wouldn't be remembered when sober. Using that idea, Nora struggles to get drunk the entire night as no one believes she is remembering her friend's murder correctly.
I laughed out loud a few times and thought the story was well done. I've only read a couple conversations before, but this is a fun story. I can't wait to watch the movie for free on Tubi.
And it was nice to hear Wendy's voice in the writing. Such a cool and fun thing for horror to be doing. Great work.

Buzzkill is exactly the kind of fun, campy horror I want this October. Nora is supposed to be the Sober Sister, keeping an eye on her sorority sisters, but instead she gets absolutely wasted. Then the Sigma president turns up dead.
The problem? Nora’s drunk alter ego knows what happened.
Now sober Nora has to piece together the clues her drunk self left behind before the killer strikes again, ala Memento.
It has the feel of a more mature Fear Street—like Nightmare Hall, but “for the Patricias.”

I had so much fun with this book! I am always down to read a chaotic sorority-set thriller.
The cover of this book really caught my eye and the actual contents did not disappoint. I absolutely sped through this.
This book and its characters are full of mistrust and secrets and drama (of all kinds). It had a very Scream Queens feel to it for me, so if you liked that show, I'd recommend you read this book.

Wendy has done it again. She sure knows how to write a book that truly feels like a 90s slashers unlike some wannabes i’ve attempted to recently. The plot is so out there and actually insane and works in ways you wouldn’t think it would. I also love the scenes here that weren’t included in the film that just help round out the characters and motivations.
Wendy, girl if you ever see this review, PLEASE write another slasher book and maybe turn it into a series.

Having watched the film first I thought I’d ruined the experience of reading this but I was completely wrong.
I absolutely loved this!!!!
It was such a fun girly slasher read and kept me hooked from start to finish.
Nora was such a fun main character and I absolutely loved seeing her try to piece everything together.
Definitely a perfect spooky-season read for the horror girlies. 🎃🔪

I loved this so much! It is perfect for anyone who loves 90s slasher movies and books that don't take themselves too seriously. Wendy Dalrymple does an amazing job at keeping you hooked and second guessing everyone as the Mister Midwestie killer. There's tension, bitching, a hell of a lot of chaos and a very weird pill induced trip including a sentient stuffed walrus and his massive package 🤭 there are some very gory murder scenes, but Wendy's writing style made them do enjoyable!
Nora is such a hot mess of an FMC and I found it absolutely hilarious that she needed to be "Drunk Nora" to help solve the mystery 😂🩷
