Raymond E. Feist was born Raymond E. Gonzales III, but took his adoptive step-father's surname when his mother remarried Felix E. Feist. He graduated with a B.A. in Communication Arts with Honors in 1977 from the University of California at San Diego. During that year Feist had some ideas for a novel about a boy who would be a magician. He wrote the novel two years later, and it was published in 1982 by Doubleday. Feist currently lives in San Diego with his children, where he collects fine wine, DVDs, and books on a variety of topics of personal interest: wine, biographies, history, and, especially, the history of American Professional Football.

4.5 actually.

This is an awesome fantasy series written in 1982 that stays in print still today. Somewhere along the way in the last century the author convinced his publisher to let him add in some edited scenes for the "Author's Preferred Edition". This is the edition that I have first discovered and loved in 2018.

There are 2 more books in the series and my next order of books will certainly include these.

With fantasy, I don't know how much is too much to reveal without spoiling the page-turning qualities of the story. So I would just say that if you enjoy fantasy and somehow have not come across this series yet, it is well worth your time.

I am only an occasional fantasy reader and this one checked off all the boxes for me.

The best aside to this book is that my very inquisitive, technology-oriented, non-reader son who was stuck on a plane with me without any charged gadgets actually started reading this old school fantasy book and I witnessed him page-turning for the first time since about 3rd grade.

Just saying it would be a good clean series for anyone with a reluctant middle school or above reader on their hands.

Graphic novel (comic book)

I was looking for the novel. Don't buy this if you want the novel. Six more words are required to publish this review.

Didn’t know it was a comic

I love the original books, didn’t know this was a comic when I purchased it. The artwork is good, but it doesn’t read the same as the book. I’m disappointed in this purchase as I wanted the actually book, not a graphic novel.

Feist classic

Good color artwork. Could use another 8 pages. Pug the magician will feature in many Feist novels , mainly the rift war series.

my first epic fantasy book and I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. it has all the cliché characters I imagined it would have the boy who goes on a long journey the nearly unbeatable foe, and many others but each element if well written and woven together, I'm just about to read book 2 of the trilogy. I'm not sure if I am a convert to the genre but this is an exalant book
