1 crude star. DNF @72%. Review posted August 23, 2015.

After my update at 34% the story took a long and extremely tedious shortcut to the land of raunchiness.

In a nutshell
Barely there plot and lots of crude fucking. The story went from good to bad to worse. Any questions?

Me: Yes? The plaything with the great tits and dark hair in the first row. What's your question, please?

Plaything: Did he fuck you too? Was he any good? Did he have a big cock?

Me: Whoa. You're quite inquisitive. No, I refused. Though the heroine screamed like a banshee, so he must be good, right? Of course he did have a fat cock equipped with magical powers.

Plaything: Hot damn. I VOLUNTEEEEER! I want him to fuck me too!

Me: Hold your horses, plaything. Let me get down to business, please.

Ace calling Janelle plaything irritated the hell out of me.

Circa 200 F-bombs. There's this saying that too many cooks spoil the broth. I could also say that too many fucks spoil the broth.

Apologies for not posting a diversified review but I can't come up with something more intelligent. I guess my brain cells are still shaking from all those hard fucks. Although I was not the one who got fucked. Sorry, I'm babbling but…er…let's get started, shall we?

Crude.
Raunchy.
Vulgar.
Foul-mouthed.

You may choose one adjective. Or two. Or, feel free to choose all four. After all, one can never have enough and I'm not in a stingy mood.

Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me.

Sorry, not me.

Are you done now?

She wanted to get fucked. Hard.

"Fuck me."

"I want to feel that hot pussy, squeezing my bare cock," he panted. "I want to get my cock wet with you."
She hadn't engaged in unprotected sex since her teen pregnancy. It wasn't a good idea, but she was at the end of her cycle, so the risk was minimal. She'd do anything to end this sweet torment. If he didn't fuck her, she'd die.

You don't say. Activate your brain, provided you have one, and think about STDs.

Of course she screamed like a banshee. Moisture drizzled from her pussy, all over his cock and down his balls.
When she was finished, he shoved her facedown on the bed and hammered his cock into her, over and over again. She couldn't hold herself up with her wrists bound, so she didn't try. She just lay flat on her belly and let him use her. He gripped her hair and pounded her pussy, skewering her on his rigid length. He drove deep and hard, almost as if he wanted to break her. To ruin her for anyone else.
He pulled out to come, in his typical fashion. He spread her ass cheeks wide and pressed his cock against her, spurting all over her with a strangled groan. She felt the hot jets painting her buttocks, dripping into her ass.

This might be hot to some but not to me. It's so not sexy either.

The gesture was polite and impartial, as if he had no feelings for her. As if he hadn't used her body like his personal playground and practically demanded that she worship his cock.

Janelle can choke on that bad case of cock worship, I don't give a flying fu@@, either.

(…) how he'd felt against her, thick and hard.

(…) cock jutted against her belly, thick and hard. She was hungry for it, all right.

(…) her lips surrounding his thick shaft.

(…) gagging her on his thick cock.

(…) a beautiful cock, long and thick.

(…) inner muscles clenching around the thick base of his shaft.

She'd imagined Ace's fat cock stretching her wider.

(…) fly was open and his cock was free, huge and hot in her palm.

(…) a heavy cock.

(…) up and down his fat cock.

(…) his gorgeous cock

She liked his big, hard cock filling her up.

"How big was he?" Tiffany asked.
Janelle finished her beer. "Big."
"Like that bottle?"
"Not quite."
Tiffany stroked the neck of her own bottle absently. "It's a shame he's not steady boyfriend material. The way he looked at you…it was the same way Cole looked at Mia. Like he wanted to fuck her forever.

Duh. Fucking forever? That would be the death of me. I do hope that anyone who is boyfriend material can think past getting a million good fucks out of a relationship. I used to think that both, men and women, have a brain and engage in other activities. Thank you very much.

The heroine But, of course, there is the usual remedy. One quick chat with Ace and her issue is fixed by his magic cock. Uh-huh…I'm mighty impressed. *cue eye-roll*

"Did you drift?"
"No. I came so hard, I saw stars."

Blah.

In my book, that's not the smartest move.

A) Either the owner doesn't give a shit about

or

B) He could

Unfortunately, I wasn't willing to wait and find out if that dumb deed would have any consequences.

Oh yes. Fuck me. So good.
He pulled out and yanked off the condom, bringing his cock to her mouth for a hot finish. With a strangled groan, he spurted all over her parted lips. Then he shoved his cock inside, flooding the back of her throat with come.
She swallowed eagerly. He stayed buried inside her mouth for another moment, his hand framing her face. Then he withdrew, sliding his cock across her wet cheek.
Whew.
And she'd thought last night's session had been messy. This one took the cake.

Yep, this book sure did take the cake.

"Have you two ever…"
"No," she said, reading his mind.
"Why not?"
"Have you ever screwed one of your friends?"
"I don't have any friends."
"Your biker buddies, then?"
"No, I haven't. But

Seriously?

Jesus wept. His cock wept, too.

Before I started to weep I had to apply the emergency brake. Frankly, they can fuck their brains out till kingdom come, I couldn't care less.

I'm sure there are readers who will gush all over Ace's fat cock but it wasn't my cup of tea. I love a great erotic romance story like anyone else but Shooting Dirty was a big, fat failure (pun intended). Unfortunately, this second installment was much worse than the previous book Riding Dirty and I had to deal with similar problems. After a good beginning, Shooting Dirty took a hard nose dive due to the ever-present filthy fuck fest. Gratuitous and OTT crude sex is boring and tedious and a definite deal breaker for me. DNF it is. Given the fact that I've enjoyed a few of Sorenson's RS in the past, I feel even more bummed out that Shooting Dirty was such a letdown.

Started to DNF, but finally struggled through to the bitter end. There's a fine line between erotic and raunchy, and this story just nimbly hopped right over it and stayed there. The book was just plain old nasty and crude, with skeezy sex scenes. There was no plotline, just one MC gang wanting Ace to doublecross and kill someone in the rival gang while he tried to get his daughter back. (He was the club assassin. Ain't that sweet??; and Janelle was a longtime stripper who refused to find another job to support her 12 year old son, even though she was a humiliation to him). Unlikable leads in an unlikable story, with gross characters all around. It read like a really bad ‘Sons of Anarchy’ episode, except for the perfect little bow everything got tied up with in the sickly sweet end.

Sorenson has written some decent RS; but this was just gross through and through. No threeway this time; but it was tie me up,hurt me, and do me rough yucky. Not sexy; just scummy, smutty, and unpleasant all the way around. Too much raunchy sex; and this was actually a far worse read than the first book, imo.

The Dirty Eleven MC series sounded like something I would enjoy. While a lot of the core characteristics of biker books is present, I really felt that the author was trying vary hard to make Ace and Janelle gritty and sexy.

As a former member of the club, Ace already has that rough edge to him but I found that being in his head was tiring. He goes over the same thoughts over and over again and if you’ve already read the first book in the series, you’re already well aware of the situation between him and Janelle. Even as the details were revealed, I felt like it was a little redundant to go over the same emotions and details again and again. Normally when a man pursues a woman, their persistence can be what it takes to win her over. However, I found that Ace got annoying quick. Especially when Janelle wasn’t a particularly appealing character to me.

As a stripper, she gets judged a lot but it wasn’t that that turned me off her character, it was the fact that she seemed so scattered all the time. It made me wonder what Ace saw in her. While I admired her desire to make a better life for herself and her kid, I didn’t like how she treated Ace in the beginning. Both character have big flaws and the author didn’t put many other redeeming qualities in them to make up for it. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will continuing the series.

This one was too cold for me. It's super gritty - which in some cases I like gritty. But - I never felt romance between the h/h. The sex was very...explicit..and I guess it fit the tone of the colder book - but didn't work for me. It's a depressing book. Like Sons of Anarchy is depressing...violent, bad people -- nothing I could ever latch on to. Ace isn't all that likable. I really liked the first book in this series, but this one was too much.

Emotional hibernation and sexual awakening...

I'm still puzzled by the covers that make me think I'm gonna read a MC Romance, which is NOT what this is. While the series name, Dirty Eleven IS the name of a MC, the main character, Ace, is not living the biker lifestyle. I'm not sure who the sexy guy on the cover is, but Ace didn't ride a motorcycle in this book. However; there are rival clubs, and club members involved in the story. It makes me wonder if there WILL be a Dirty Eleven MC clubhouse scene in my future, IF all the club chaos ever gets resolved and there are any members left that are not evil. I'm still scratching my head, wondering where it's heading...

Ace has a history with the Dirty Eleven MC. He grew up on the streets with friends that later joined the club. He overindulged in the freedom of club life and made some bad choices that will haunt him long into his future. He burned some bridges that cost him some friends, and his freedom. He's trying to make a better life for himself, if he can just cut the ties that bind him to his past. If he could just forget the beautiful woman who witnessed his final dirty deed for the club. If he could forget her, he might be able to move on... if he didn't see her every time he closed his eyes.

Janelle is drowning in bad luck. She's been trying to pull up her big girl panties and make a life for herself and her son. She's trying to outrun her painful childhood that keeps creeping back at the worst times. She's struggling to better herself, to work her way out of the job and the neighborhood that keeps them from being normal. She hopes to keep her son from finding out what she's really doing to pay their bills. And she's trying to forget the man that kidnapped her... but every time she closes her eyes, there he is.

Can these two characters find a way to live with their twisted past? Can they forget how they started and take a chance on a different ending? Can they learn to trust again after surviving painful pasts that taught them how dangerous that can be? Will their hearts allow them to walk away from each other, even if that's what they know they should do?

I found it a little hard to connect with these characters. They are both cold in their own way. She's got her armor on, she performs on the stage, and in her relationships. When life gets too hard, and memories too close, she drifts. . He's a cold blooded killer. That's what he did for the club. He wants out, but he can't change his past. He had to be closed off from emotion to do what he had to do. Is it possible for him to open the parts of himself that haven't seen the light for so long? I was anxious to see them overcome all the obstacles in the path of them being together. And, I was looking forward to seeing their frozen hearts thaw for each other. But no worries about them being cold in the bedroom, cuz they had that part mastered, it was HOT!

Ah, biker gang stories are just so delightedly messed up. 4 solid and dirty stars for Shooting Dirty. The story was darkly sweet with some twists and some seriously delicious sex. Let's be honest, it isn't a great romance novel if there's no wicked sex.

Ace is not a man Janelle should get involved with, like, or even consider bringing to her bed consider all that he is and has done. He's kidnapped her, killed her son's father, and is now bringing around more trouble for her. None of this matters to her traitorous body considering his alpha male ways turn her on and his lips and hands bring her the ultimate satisfaction.

Janelle is a bit of Ace's obsession. He knows he's no good for her but that doesn't stop him from wanting her, wanting to protect her, and protecting her boy. Ace knows once he's had a taste he won't be able to stop but he damns himself and Janelle in more ways than one.

The two must really decide if something more than physical can happen between them. They have to realize that love is a possibility, that everyone deserves a chance at redemption, and that there's light even in the darkest of nights. The salvation both Janelle and Ace seek can be found, and it can be found together.

It’s a tricky business, to take a motorcycle club hit man with blood on his hands and make him the hero of your book. To do that, you have to convince the reader that he has some redeeming qualities, and that in a world full of only bad guys, he’s the one to take a chance on. Luckily, that’s the case in this story, a violent and intense romance between two flawed yet interesting characters who are victims of their circumstances and trying to make the best out of what they’ve been given and what they can achieve through their own making.

Ace’s last hit with the Dirty Eleven MC was to take out Janelle’s ex, a dirty lowlife, but the father of her 12 year old son none-the-less. With this as their history, including Ace’s kidnapping of Janelle in the process of doing the job, it’s hard to believe that Janelle would have any interest in Ace, sexually or otherwise. But Ace is trying to turn his life around, going legit by getting out of the biker world as much as possible. He’s quit the club and only has contact with them when necessary in order to see his daughter who is in the custody of Dirty Eleven’s president, the father of Ace’s dead ex-girlfriend. Getting involved with Janelle is a mistake, but he’s taken to watching over her since he killed her ex, staying on the periphery and only making his presence known if there are threats to her, or her son. Janelle’s got a pretty hard existence already, stripping to make ends meet. Being with Ace is a mistake, but the sexual attraction between them just isn’t going away. Like moths to a flame they can’t stay away from each other, no matter that one or both of them might get burned.

This wasn’t an easy read, in part because of the tension from the start and also because of the seemingly hopeless situation that Ace and Janelle find themselves in. It reminded me of that quote from The Godfather part 3, said by Michael Corleone ” Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in”. Poor Ace is trying to go straight – he doesn’t do drugs anymore, he steers clear of club business, and he’s working hard at his demolition job. But the repercussions of his altercations with his ex-girlfriends rapist, the leader of a rival MC, continue to wreak havoc on his life – including his new and fraught relationship of sorts with Janelle. He’s a handsome devil and it’s not hard to see why Janelle would be attracted to him despite their history, as she hasn’t had the best track record with men and Ace is clear that he is interested in her. Not to mention, having him as a protector of sorts wouldn’t hurt. The sex between them is dirty, sometimes bordering on raunchy and pornographic so occasionally it was outside of my comfort zone. But nothing was going to stop me from reading to see how they could possibly get a happy ending (there were times I despaired of this). I admired Janelle’s strength and resilience, in dealing with an abusive chidhood, a difficult relationship with her now deceased ex, and living with the constant threat of violence in her life, not made any easier by her association with Ace. She’s used to the life of a stripper, not something she ever wanted but one that pays the bills. She comes across as a woman making the best of difficult circumstances, and being a single mother certainly adds complications to her life. Her sexual escapades with Ace are her escape from reality, though it soon comes to be that when she’s with him, he makes her feel more than she ever thought she would. They are a matched pair in wanting a better future for themselves and their children, and willing to do whatever it takes to protect their kids and each other.

There is a fair amount of violent action in the story, and the plot keeps you on edge from the start. Janelle’s friend Tiffany, also a stripper at Vixen (and introduced in Riding Dirty, the first book in the series) plays an important role as a secondary character, as do a few of the MC members. I’m hoping she’ll get a story too, she deserves a happy ending of her own (and there is a nice setup for her to be paired with another MC rider). I’m happy to say that at the end I could breathe a sigh of relief that Ace and Janelle get their happy ending after all. If you like biker club stories with hot sex, plenty of action and club politics all blended into an entertaining read then this is a book for you. 4 stars.

3.5 stars ARC Review

There is something keenly harsh about this series. It starts with the stark landscape. Having been to Indio, there are parts of that area that seem like a desert wasteland. Amidst the casinos and resorts are run down mobile home parks with rusted out homes covered with tarp. Jill Sorenson’s writing paints a very distinct picture of poverty and hopelessness. But it is more than just the environment; the characters are gritty as well.

As much as I like Ace, I really admire Janelle. Janelle is a product of the area, and she has dreams of escaping. Working as a stripper at night, she is takes classes and tries to make a better life for her and her son. What’s interesting to me is her attitude about her work and how she could put it into perspective.

As much as she hated certain aspects of the job, performing at Vixen had made her a stronger person. She knew who she was in this setting. She knew exactly where the lines were, and how to stay behind them. There was no touching, no grinding, no nudity in the VIP room. Those professional boundaries were comforting.

Still, constantly running into obstacles can be discouraging: "She was tired of failing. She was tired of trying. Tired of caring." Loss of hope is the real struggle in Coachella Valley.

Ace is on the road to redemption. Leaving the Dirty Eleven is a huge risk, but he is not the same person as he was when he joined. Fatherhood changes him. Love can change a person.

Without Skye, he might not have been capable of romantic love. Becoming a father had softened him, just a little. It had made a tender place inside him, and allowed for another seed to take root. This seed had grown, against all odds, like a desert flower in stony sand.

His quest to have his daughter brings him to his moral boundaries. What is he willing to do get custody of his daughter? And if he chooses to cross lines, will he be able to look her in the eye? Will his actions taint the only pure and innocent thing in his life?

For me, the weakest part of the story is the relationship between Ace and Janelle. They meet under dubious circumstances – actually, he kidnaps her and kills the father of her son in an earlier story. I may be a little too cynical here, but I’m not quite certain that Janelle would be so willing to forgive Ace for what he did to her. I understand that their attraction is highly physical at first and it grows with time. I’m still a little skeptical. Nonetheless, for me, the appeal of this book is in the characters themselves. They are multi-layered and just plain interesting. Jill Sorenson is the master of portraying both quiet and elevated levels of desperation.

IN A NUTSHELL:
Conveying both dark desperation and bright hope, Jill Sorenson gives us an interesting character study. I’m really enjoying this different spin on the MC romance genre. It’s out of the mold. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for this series.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own and I was not paid for this review.

I haven’t read many of Jill Sorenson’s books even though I keep meaning to. I picked this book up because it sounded interesting and I miss Sons of Anarchy. I’m super glad that I decided to try this one because it was good. Everything that I loved about SOA was found in this book. I thought Sorenson did a great job of writing that crude, tough macho anti-hero because like Jax Teller, I found myself really liking Ace.

So this book follows Ace and Janelle as they fumble their way to their happy ending. Ace is an ex-member of the Dirty Eleven MC. He used to be the enforcer, the guy the club sent out to do the dirty work and by dirty work, I mean kill. lol. After his last job, which involved kidnapping a young woman and holding her hostage, he threw in the towel – much to the chagrin of the President of his MC. When he gave up his patch, he was supposed to be shunned from the other brothers in the MC but as Ace starts handling his business in this book, he realizes that his brothers from Dirty Eleven are still his brothers. They still have his back and that’s a good thing cause he needs them.

Janelle is a stripper trying to make ends meet and build a better future for herself. She’s doing all of this in an effort to give her young son, a better life. Things haven’t always been easy for Janelle but she’s smart and determined. The last thing she needs is a bunch of bikers sniffing around her doorstep, looking for Ace – the guy that kidnapped her. The guy that she can’t get out of her mind, no matter how hard she tries.

So Ace and Janelle are thrown together and Ace tries his best to look out for Janelle and her young son, Jamie. He’s not the caring type but he feels a responsibility toward Janelle so he watches out for her.

The romance between Ace and Janelle wasn’t perfect but neither was the world that they live in. The book can be described as crude, gritty and raw and the story in general, just worked for me. I was into everything that was going on and even with Ace, not being the most stand up of guys (I mean, let’s be real – he used to be a killer) but like Jax Teller, I loved him anyway.

I thought Janelle was a great heroine. She didn’t put up with anyone’s shit and she stood up for herself and for those that couldn’t stand up for themselves (at work). She wasn’t the most perfect of mothers but I liked that she never stopped trying. She made the most of not only what she had but of every situation thrown her way and at the very front of her priorities was her son.

There was a lot of things in this book that made me roll my eyes down the street but overall, the story itself was entertaining and I enjoyed it. I’m definitely looking for more from this series. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a book between Tiffany and Rex. Please make that happen, Jill Sorenson. :)

Just as good the second time around.

4.5 stars
A great addition to this series. I discovered this author when I read book 1 Riding Dirty (Dirty Eleven #1) by Jill Sorenson which was also a very good read. The stories definitely would be classifed as erotic but they also include a deeply emotional love story. The H, Ace, and the h, Janelle, were minor secondary characters in book 1. You can definitely read this book without reading book 1 but I highly encourage the reading of both books. Ace is a tortured soul and former member of the Dirty Eleven MC. He still has close ties with the club members and the club president. He is emotionally torn because he has a young daughter who is being raised by the maternal grandmother who is also the wife of the Dirty Eleven MC president. Janine is the single mother of a 12 year old son who is struggling to support her son and works as a stripper. Ace and Janelle slowly fall in love but both are afraid to voice their feelings because neither have a good track record with positive relationships. The author includes a lot of great action scenes and a story filled with angst and suspense. We get a HEA as well as a unique ending where the club doesn't always come first. There's no cheating. I highly recommend this book.

Review copy received via NetGalley.

Ace and Janelle are the couple that shouldn't be attracted to one another. He's the hired gun that killed her ex and she's a sexy stripper that got in his way. A little time apart doesn't diminish their attraction to one another. After the life she's lived, Janelle's distrust for men should cause her to run away from Ace. Oddly enough, he becomes the one guy that she thinks she can trust. He might not be a good guy, but he tells her the truth and lets her know when he can't tell her anymore. Good thing she's a smart cookie and can connect the dots quickly.

Ace is just trying to get out of the MC life, get his shit together, and provide for his kid. He doesn't need the distraction of sexy stripper with a kid of her own to support. He finds himself drawn to this confident yet kind woman with a mind of her own. Ace has dealings with his old club due to a unique custody situation. He is also dealing with a rival club willing to use Ace as leverage.

Lots of action, sexy bikers, and a lovely woman not ashamed to do what needs to be done in order to support her kid.

Well I must confess I didn't want to finish it...but only because I didn't want it to end...lol. I loved loved loved Riding Dirty and prayed I would like this one ALMOST as much....well... I loved it even more.

Ace is in the midst of a sh*tstorm, beholden to a man who controls his young daughters life, he has done horrible things...... killed... been in prison... and yet you see beneath all the tough guy...to the man he is for his daughter and for a stripper that he is following named Janelle.

Janelle is a stripper/dancer, she has had a childhood that nightmares are made from, she is a single parent to a preteen boy named Jamie, by a junkie biker named Shane..... the twist in this is Ace killed Shane and kidnapped Janelle (in flashbacks)so their attraction and drama is ALMOST unsurmountable...or would be if written by anyone else. Jill Sorenson writing it... no worries...and she did.

The book was violent and dramatic and sexy and just plain GOOD. I loved it. I will be buying this series in paperback as I need it in both ,,,lol.

I cannot wait for the next book which I am hoping will also have some more about Ace and Janelle and their soon to be blended family.

This one is fast-paced and very hot. I really liked it, just not as much as I liked RIDING DIRTY. There is a fair bit of backstory in the beginning as we're introduced to the two main characters. It mostly refers back to an unwritten scene that happened between the two before this story starts. I'm not big on prologues, but here I think I might've preferred to see the scene play out instead of feeling like something happened off the page and I missed it.

For un-likeable characters, the author manages to give them enough likeable qualities to draw the reader in. They're both strong and fiercely protective of their kids. There are plenty of twist and turns here and I kept turning pages. The sex is smoking hot, but it sometimes got in the way of the romance for me. Don't get me wrong. There were plenty of feels, but the ending was a little too tidy.

Overall, I'm hooked on this series and will be picking up the next one.

DNF @ Chapter 3

Not rating this because I don't feel like I gave it a fair shake. Basically, it wasn't catching my attention and neither character was really making me root for them. In the opening scene the heroine is turned down for a physical therapy program at a local Christian college due to her stripper past. Instead of saying, "Oh hey, this isn't the only college with a P.T. program," and telling herself she's going to keep trying, she gives up and resigns herself to being a stripper. I get being browbeaten by life, but I want to see my fictional heroines keep fighting. As for Ace, he seemed okay, but for some reason I wasn't connecting with him either in his introductory chapter.

Either way, I wasn't feeling it on this one and was a little bored with the first two chapters. Maybe it got better or maybe not. Like I said, I didn't really give it a fair shake.

When Ace gives things to his woman that was used he makes sure they're clean, "before I forget,” he said, reaching into his glove compartment. He found a swath of black lace and passed it to her. She accepted the panties warily. “I washed them.” Janelle doesn't mind making her man's ego even bigger, “God,” she said, drinking him in. He was lean and rock-hard, his ribcage striated. “You’re built.” I liked this book I fell in love with Ace under his rough exterior he's a great man.

This book ran the gauntlet of emotions for me. There were times I was happy, teary, turned on, mad and anxious. Ace was a pretty complex guy. Trying to clean up his life and be the person his daughter needed, but the MC president just wouldn't let him go. I loved the relationship between him and Janelle. Both were damaged from previous relationships and we're doing their best to avoid the same mistakes. Looking forward to Tiffany's book.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This is an interesting and gritty read. Honestly, it was too gritty for me. I continue to think I'm not the desired audience for MC romances. I'm really not the audience for a raw, brutal MC romance.

Review originally published at The Bookpushers

I’ve been looking forward to this book since Ace and Janelle were first introduced in Owen and Penny’s novel in Badlands, which I reviewed here Ace was this mysterious and dangerous man who kidnapped Janelle and I wasn’t sure if these two would get their book, but Sorenson has neatly and cleverly tied in this world from the Aftershock series into the Dirty Eleven series. We reviewed Riding Dirty awhile back and enjoyed and saw glimpses of Ace, who turned out to be a hitman.

Janelle is a tough cookie and she’s had to be because of her history with men, from her abusive father, her abusive step-father, and her abusive ex, Shane. Janelle did what she did to survive and she made fast and easy money stripping. Janelle was able to keep her job a secret from her twelve year old son, Jamie, until Jamie found out by some horrible older kids who bullied and beat him up.

Jill Sorenson has a knack for theme and tone and she managed to create a gritty and dirty undertone in this series. She managed to capture a setting where some poverty and criminal activity are linked but she doesn’t create awful stereotypical characters. Ace has a daughter who he adores and loves beyond anything else, and yet he can’t have her because of his criminal history, and because of Wild Bill, who has custody of his daughter along with Shawnee–and they’re not giving her up. This anger and hate burrows deep inside Ace and you can tell the only way he’ll get his daughter is through other non-legal channels. And in the world he lives in–and the way he has lived his life–this is how Ace goes about doing things. But he’s not impulsive. He’s patience and he calculates.

Ace is patient with Janelle because she is so conflicted about him. After their last meeting when he captured her in Badlands, things between them are screwed up. Janelle is so conflicted with Ace. She loathes what he did to her and it bothers her that he has no remorse over killing her ex and father of her son. Yet he watches out for in despite her warning him to stay away. Despite everything about Ace; his criminal history and their history on that awful day, he turns her on. She knows his life is no good for the life she has with Jamie. And yet she has fantasies about Ace dominating her and tying her up. Janelle feels a deep attraction to him. But Ace is everything that she doesn’t want in a man. He’s the sort of man that doesn’t fit into her ideal of a family man. And yet she can’t stop thinking and fantasizing about him.

The suspense does run in parallel with their romance and Ace is caught up between two factions; Wild Bill and Jester. Jester is the leader of the racist White Lightning MC and he has serious and ugly history with Ace. Ace would rather both bump them off but Ace knows what the ramifications would be. He’s trying to get out of this life but he’s being dragged back in, and Janelle is being dragged into it also because of association with him.

While I think this book is super gritty and it ties in with the theme of the series, I kinda struggled with the romance itself, especially the sex. The grittiness and raunchiness of the scenes seemed forced and almost clinical. It does verge into porny type territory at times and I was wanting a lot more closeness and emotion in the romance between the two. I’m conflicted because I think Sorenson creates awesome settings and she manages to create a tone that suits her stories perfectly but I just wasn’t feeling the romance in this book. Some of the descriptors seemed a little unsexy too but your mileage may vary.

Sorenson does great suspense and Shooting Dirty doesn’t disappoint in that area and I couldn’t figure out how Ace was going to get out of the hole between Jester and Wild Bill. I liked the conclusion and I think the next book may be about Tiffany and Rex–the latter who I think is an undercover cop!

All in all I liked Shooting Dirty. The romance left me feeling a tiny bit cold at times but Sorenson has a knack for creating unique characters with a great setting.

I give Shooting Dirty a C

With hints and stories and scenes of rape, murder, assault (both sexual and otherwise), excessive drug use, child molestation and kidnapping, this book could be a major trigger for a lot of people. For me, I pushed past my discomfort and was able to fall in love with a great piece of work (albeit one that will likely haunt me for awhile).

Life has been hard for stripper and single mother Janelle Parker, but she's a survivor. She just wants a better life for her and her son, but as the Queen of Bad Decisions, that's always just out of reach. When she spots her son with the inked up biker Ace Clemmons, the man who kidnapped her and ultimately killed her son's father, she can't understand why she's ridiculously attracted to the man! Ace wants Janelle with a fierceness that borders on obsession. She's a loose end from that last job, and every killer for hire knows about loose ends. But instead of eliminating her, he's determined to make sure she doesn't become a victim again. Plus she's hot. With so many people after Ace though, it's just a matter of time before they decide to use Janelle against him. But Ace is a greedy bastard, and he'll stop at nothing to claim her, even though he knows it's a very VERY bad idea.

SHOOTING DIRTY is book 2 in the Dirty Eleven MC, and I've got to say that this was a seriously wild ride! I'm really liking this trend of stories that don't give us the typical "bad boy" characters. These are genuinely bad men who pillage and plunder and deal drugs and murder on a daily basis. Ace is a former MC member but is still tied to the Dirty Eleven through his daughter. He murders for money, wants the oblivion of a meth high and has done prison time. Janelle takes her clothes off for money, wants to be tied up again by the man who kidnapped her and killed her baby daddy, and generally doesn't have a whole lot of opportunities to get the hell out her world.

So together, yea, they could be a hot mess, but the characters are strangely endearing and sympathetic in a crazy, effed up kinda way. You somehow WANT Ace to kill Jester and maybe even Wild Bill. You want Janelle to get tied up with belts and bras and cuffs and sashes and have violent orgasms as she rides the bologna pony. And even though bologna isn't my favorite of the lunch meats, every sex scene was down and dirty, furious fucking. There was no making love here…it was fantasies and desires and secret sexual bucket lists all rolled into one, and I LOVED IT!!! I'll be picking up more from Ms. Sorenson STAT!

Bottom Line: This is a fantastic read, though not for the faint of heart. If you like MC books with loads of sex and violence along with your HEA, you'll love SHOOTING DIRTY. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Ace met Janelle about 6 months ago, when he kidnapped her to use as bait to lure her ex, Shane. Shane died that day. That was the last "job" Ace did for his MC. His payment would be custody of his 3 year old daughter Skye, the only thing he loved in the world. Bill, Skye's grandfather and president of the MC reneged on the deal. That was the day Ace walked away from the club, no more bike, drugs or alcohol.

He could never forget Janelle though, how she affected him. He didn't quite understand what it was. He used to watch her at times, to make sure she and her son were alright.

Janelle had had a rough day. She had been to an interview at a Christian College, one of the few in the area that has a Physical Therapy program. One of the panel members was a patron at the club she danced at and just when she thought she would be accepted he slid a note over to the other panel members. She didn't know what it said but guessed when he smirked and the other panel members looked down their noses at her. She worked so hard just to get to that point. Classes, working and a 12 year old son. To top it off, 2 guys on motorcycles pulled up to her home and were looking for Ace. She didn't know where he was but they gave her a message for him.

Jamie, her son, was not home when she got their and she went looking for him. She found him by the laundry room with none other than Ace. This was the first time she had seen him since that day but he had been on her mind. Even though she was frightened when he kidnapped her, he never hurt her in any way. She found herself attracted to him.

These 2 have some pretty steamy chemistry together. Both come from broken homes in some way and neither are very trusting. Janelle has one close friend and a not so close relationship with her mother in the beginning. Ace has one or two guys he can call friends but as they are from his ex-MC, they are not supposed to be acknowledging him.

Two men want something from Ace and it is a no-win situation for him. They will use Janelle or his daughter, because they know he cares.

Will they make it through the hell that is about to break loose?

I thought this was a pretty good book. Motorcycle Club stories are much more gritty and raw and are violent. This is a story about a man who wants to leave the neverending violence behind which is almost impossible.

My Review:

I'll admit, I wanted to DNF this book several times while I was reading it. And this is probably on me. I like Motorcycle Clubs to a certain extent, but it is way too easy to take them over that dark and gritty line. This one kept skirting that edge way too close for my liking. I need my characters to maybe flirt with being bad, but they have to have a darn good reason for it. For this hero and heroine, I just couldn't believe they didn't have any other choices. Especially when toward the end of the book the author specifically pointed out that the Dirty Eleven club doesn't have far-reaching power. Well, if that was the case, the MC's could have left the area with their kids and gotten away...and had a much better life for it.

But the fact remains that I did keep reading the book. It kept me engaged to the point that I didn't want to put it down. The author knows how to write a riveting story. I just needed her to pull something off at the end that showed these two were really good people stuck in a bad situation that they COULDN'T escape. She didn't quite sell me on that. And I'm not so sure about the good people aspect. Granted, they both had their moments that showed their humanity and both of their back stories are awful. But people die, get hurt, and maimed...and there's never a moment of sorrow about that for these two. That's a difficult thing to swallow, even if the people getting hurt aren't the best of humanity.

I don't know...I'm still kind of wishing I hadn't finished this one. I think I should have followed my gut at the 20% mark. But like I said...that's on me. The book completely captured my attention and I never did manage to walk away. If you like your stories with darker characters and story lines, this is probably a good one for you. The writing is tight and the characters stay true to themselves.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Note: This ARC was provided by Carina Press in exchange for an honest review.

For the record, Janelle's ex-boyfriend and the father of her son Jamie wasn't a good person. Of course, this doesn't justify Ace's murdering him but then the MC world lives by a different set of rules, right? While his death has affected Janelle, it's her short time in captivity with Ace that continues to haunts her, but in ways that you would never expect. Janelle feels that she's ready to hand over control to Ace and though Ace has never been into BDSM, he can't get the idea of a tied-up Janelle out of his head. No one else does it for these two and what begins as a purely sexual thing becomes something more to both of them, which is why Ace becomes such an easy target and Janelle a far easier pawn in order to control Ace.

Aside from being part of the Dirty Eleven series, this story is connected to Badlands, the third book in Jill Sorenson's Aftershock series, which was about Owen Jackson, the brother of Janelle's ex-boyfriend, and is where Ace's and Janelle's paths cross. Owen is mentioned in Shooting Dirty a number of times, so now I'm curious as to what went on in Badlands, but I'll have to wait to read it since I have a thing for reading books in a series in order. I am, however, looking forward to reading the next book in this series and hope it'll be about Tiffany, Janelle's best friend and a memorable supporting character in the first two books, and I hope she's paired with Rex, who is quite mysterious. So far, so good. Shooting Dirty gets four stars. ♥

I've been wanting an Ace and Janelle story every since Badlands, when these two characters are introduced in that installment of the Aftershock series. Both of these characters are in need of some affection, and the spark between them is off the charts.

Jill Sorenson does an awesome job of continuing that storyline into this Dirty Eleven MC series. This series takes a slightly different look at the Motorcycle Club genre, with characters that want out of the club, instead of getting in.

Ace has been pining after Janelle for some time, and Janelle hasn't forgotten him either, but they've got so much bad stuff between them that it would be difficult to see how they could even have a relationship. Jill Sorenson does an great job of making their relationship work and seem believable in light of the history between them. I loved how the different pieces of that story get wrapped up here.

I thought these two were like matches and gasoline together and their love scenes communicated that so very well. Yes, I thought they pushed the envelope when it came to smexy times and I loved that about this story, because it all just made absolute sense that these two would just about combust when they finally got together.

It isn't an easy road for them, but the ride to the HEA is exciting and the ending so very sweet. I adore how Jill Sorenson creates male characters that have done some terrible things in their past and she gives them a path to redemption.

Shooting Dirty and this gritty world of Slab City is a winner for me.

If you were to ask what this book was about, I would say it was about a guy who decided to leave his motorcycle club to do his own thing but ends up falling in love with a stripper. Ace has never known the meaning of love until his daughter Skye came into the picture. Now that he's left the Dirty Eleven Club and trying to get his life together for his daughter, his past keeps creeping up on him. Not to mention Janelle, the stripper who is currently raising her 12 year old son by herself. These two have their reasons why they shouldn't be together but they just can't seem to stay away. I liked Ace. He was this total bad ass that said what he meant but wasn't stupid enough to let his temper get him killed. I liked reading the moments he shared with Skye. As big and bad as this guy was, he was all putty when it came to her. But he was the dominant alpha when it came to Janelle and I loved every minute of it!! As for Janelle, I really couldn't connect with her. I don't know what it was about her or her character, but I didn't really care too much for her or her son Jamie. Maybe he was acting out and looking for attention but it looked like he just needed a good kick in the ass for his behavior.
There were two other characters in this book I'm hoping will get their own book, Tiffany and Rex. I just know there's a big story behind Rex, I just can't wait to read it!! Oh, I love Tiffany-she's hecka cool!

I think that I loved the other Sorenson books that I read because of the plots. This one is so internal, with characters that I can't connect to, that I had a hard time. In fact, it took nearly a year for me to work up to finishing it. It has the feel of tying up loose ends from the earthquake series, instead of having its own momentum. I'll probably continue to read Sorenson, but I really prefer the more romantic suspense books.

E-ARC is received thanks to Carina Press and Netgalley.

I have a penchant for biker stories hence why I requested this on NG. This is my first book by Jill Sorenson and I don't think it'll be my last.

Overall, the story is entertaining and fast paced. The author certainly wasn't afraid to make it gritty and as messed up as possible. I read it all in one sitting.

I love both Janelle and Ace as characters; they are similar despite their different backgrounds. Both Janelle and Ace are willing to go great lengths for their kids. I love Janelle's determination to make an easy life for her son, Jamie, and how she's trying to break the cycle. She's not afraid to work hard although her work environment is terrible. I also enjoyed her friendship with her best friend Tiffany. I adore Ace as a father; he's just so good with his daughter, Skye. I love that he's trying to go straight for her, and I love those vulnerable moments when he's worried he'll never be good enough a father to Skye.

What didn't quite work for me is the romance. I understand the attraction between the two, they have some pretty steamy chemistry, but I'm not quite sold on how that turns into love?

That being said, I'm definitely going to check out Jill Sorenson's Badlands since Janelle and Ace are first introduced in that one.

Didn't really work for me 2.5 to 3 stars.

This is the first book I've read by this author, I liked the blurb and while it was the second book in this series I didn't really like the sound of the first one so I just went with this.
I have a friend who once she starts a book she has to finish it, no matter how bad it is I'm not like that I start and reject so many books but this one I kept reading and I'm not exactly sure why.
I didn't really like any of the characters, or the set up or the story.
The two main characters Ace and Janelle met...in Ace's words :
"Don't you remember how we met? I used a f***ing taser on you and took you hostage. You watched me kill your ex."
Not exactly a romantic start and not the easiest foundation on which to build a new relationship.
I'm not really sure what else to say, maybe I missed a lot because I skipped the first book but so many things didn't make sense to me at all. The main one being after what he did how is Jester still alive? Really I'd like to know because it completely baffled me.
The multiple POV allows us to understand why Ace in particular says what he does and acts like he does but ultimately this just didn't really work for me.
