The second book in the Patriots saga is a thrill ride. Marzec’s story of a citizen of the new United States of America traveling to enemy territory, England, to learn of her inheritance, is an exciting story. From the start of the perilous sea voyage, to the death of an emotionally disturbed passenger, to a marauding British ship and highwaymen and murder, poor Margaret hardly stands a chance to get to her late grandfather’s manor to hear the reading of the will, much less claim anything of valu ...more

A masterfully told historical novel centers on the heroine, Margaret, who must go to England to hear the reading of her grandfather’s will. Travel is treacherous in post-Revolutionary War times, especially a sea voyage to England.

On the ship Margaret meets Derrick, a young doctor. She finds his ways arrogant, and he’s unwilling to believe in the ointments and common items she also uses to heal. He’s on his way to England to study and find a cure for sepsis that killed his brother.

I requested Patriot's Pride after recently reading several other books set this time period. It didn't disappoint! I enjoyed the action and adventure, the mystery, and definitely the romance and redemption plot lines. If you're a fan of historical romance I would definitely recommend you give this one a try!

It's always hard to find a balance when it comes inspirational reads, because they tend to come off a little too preachy. This tends to turn off people who like mainstream romance novels. Yes, there are some out there that have the perfect balance. Patriot's Pride wouldn't be for those how like a little mainstream in their romance. However, those who love inspirational and deep messages might enjoy this particular title.

However, I struggled with Margaret and Derrick's s

Ms Marzec knows how to spin a good yarn - and a historical romance at that. Margaret is on her way to the UK on board the American ship, Prosperity (the name bodes well for the inheritance she's going to find in England). She soon makes the acquaintance of the ship's doctor, Derrick who unfortunately firmly believes in leech-bleeding to cure ailments - unfortunately because Margaret just lost her fiancé to over-leech bleeding doctors. Derrick himself if a wounded soul, having just lost his broth ...more

Penelope Marzec grew up along the Jersey shore, heard stories about Captain Kidd, and dug for his buried treasure. Her adventure resulted in a bad case of poison ivy. Deciding books were better than buried treasure, she discovered romance novels and was soon hooked on happy endings. She became an early childhood educator and found her own hero in an electrical engineer who grew up in Brooklyn, pla ...more
