Innocuous at face value.
So this isn't a strenuous read. Aside from a few inconsistencies, cardboard homophobic villains, and the ridiculous say one thing and do the other speak from an MC it's not bad. Not great, but a fair read. Unfortunately, this rang my WTF bell a couple times, this quote sums up one of them:
Like there's a subprime gay? I wish people would replace "gay" with another race/ethnicity/religion and tell me whether or not that statement still holds up as reasonable.
As if that isn't insulting enough, the idea of purity is implied in a twisted version of patriarchal virginity. After all, it is the "submissive" tiger shifter that is being referred to/acknowledging their "gold star" status--plus, he's really a virgin, too. So, this is a double slam against gays and women. And the author is advocating some nasty gender roles, which just really rubs me wrong.

What in the actual fuck happened?! Seriously. What happened to Tristan? He seemed so nice in Pierce's Choice (I believe that's the book he was in). Then it turns out he's a Grade-A asshole :( Jake deserved better. I really dislike Tristan and that makes me mad, because I thought I liked him. I thought him and Jake would be perfect together, but I was wrong :(

At the end of Pierce's Choice, tiger shifter Jake Trenton decides to leave the Smooth Rock Falls pack and start over with the Fraser Lake wolf pack after being offered sanctuary by the packs new alpha, Tristan Massey. Jake has been dealing with many things that are weighing heavy on his mind and heart, , so he feels like he needs to start over somewhere new where he won’t be as often reminded of his recent heartbreaks. Leaving his friends back in Smooth Rock Falls is a tough decision, but it’s about time that Jake starts thinking about his own welfare first after having dedicated most of his life to putting his friends before himself.
Meanwhile, Tristan is struggling to deal with his new role as alpha of the Fraser Lake pack. This is a harrowing task, considering the last alpha left the pack in such disarray, with pack finances in the red and pack lands being depleted of game for the wolves to hunt. Not to mention the often dangerous and impertinent behaviour many of the pack mates exhibit towards Tristan’s rule. But with the help of his best friend and beta, Chris, Tristan works tirelessly to turn things around for the pack and, hopefully, with time and patience, the Fraser Lake pack will begin to thrive once again.
On top of everything, Tristan is being pressured by the elder council to choose a mate and fast, because the strain of being an alpha can be highly alleviated with the help of a mating bond. Tristan’s problem is that many of his pack are bigoted assholes and he fears that if he follows his heart and mates with a male, he will be disrespected and possibly overthrown. But after considering his female options, he comes to realise that there is only one pack member who he wants to be with – a certain shy, slightly geeky, new tiger member.
When Tristan shares his troubles and expresses his feelings to Jake, they quickly fall into bed together for a night of passion which ends with an accidental mating.
Tristan reacts with panic, and even though he cares deeply for Jake (and wants Jake for his mate), he asks Jake to help him hide the fact that they are now a mated pair. Jake is used to this kind of heartbreak and rejection, and although in disagreement of what they should do in this situation, he goes along with Tristan’s wishes at the detriment of his own feelings.
The rest of the story had me want to continually smack Tristan for not manning up and claiming Jake as "his" to the pack. I felt like I got really worked up over this because my love for Jake was so great and I couldn’t possibly deal with more of his heartbreak and insecurities after everything he’d been through in the past year. Luckily, and unsurprisingly, Tristan finally gets his shit together and the two get their HEA, much to my delight.
There were a few things left open to explore in further stories, too - - and I seriously hope we get to follow Chris (Tristan’s beta) in his own love story at some point in the near future.

NOTE: This is clearly the first book in a new series and is able to be read as a standalone, BUT it is very much a spin-off series, and as such, I highly recommend that (if you haven’t already) you read Tyler’s Pack Mates series first to become familiar with the shifter world she has created.

Accidentally Mated is the first book in Lynn Tyler's Fraser Lake Pack, but we actually meet Tristan and Jake in her Pack Mate's Series. I have read all of the other series and could not wait for this book. I was so glad that Jake was getting his happily ever after, after all of the pain and sorrow he had been through in the past.
Jake is a sweet, gentle tiger who recently had his heart broken. Tristan is the Alpha of the Fraser Lake Pack and is determined to be the Alpha they need to rise above the situation they are in now, even if it means mating for the wrong reasons. However, the pull he feels towards Jake keeps getting in the way of what he considers his duty to his pack.
If you enjoy a good MM book with sexy Alphas, the men they fall for, and some suspense, I recommend anything by Lynn Tyler. I love her Pack Mate's Series, and this new series did not disappoint!

The part I most liked wass that there was no insta-love stuff here. The relationship grew a bit slower than that, at least; and with the mate-bond, it seemed natural.
I also liked how there wasn't an instant, general homophobia inbred in most of the shifter populations.
The part I was most annoyed by is that even though this is book 1 in this series, there was a lot of backstory and other couples from one or more previous series of books featured not quite lightly in this story, making me feel like I'd missed out on quite a bit.
I recommend it if you're looking for something other than the usual shifter story.

This was the first in a new series but still in the same world as Ms. Tyler's Pack Mates series. While you can read Accidentally Mated by itself you will get more enjoyment if you have read the Pack Mates series before.
This was an excellent addition and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the paranormal romance.

It's been a few weeks since I read this, I'm so behind on reviews.
First I need to point out the complete ridiculousness of the "gold star gay" scene. I know a lot of gay and lesbian people, and although I have heard of the concept, I have never in any of those friendships/relationships experienced anything that would make me think this is actually a conversation that would happen in real life. Ever.
What I thought about the book. In the beginning I was on board. I felt so bad for Jake that I just wanted to hug him and I thought Tristan was just what he needed. Unfortunately, Tristan was an asshole. After the way he treated Jake, I just didn't have a fuck to give about him. Maybe that's harsh but Jake is this sweet, caring, submissive personality that took a chance on Tristan and Tristan just crushed him. I understand Tristan was under pressure from the ruling council but it was just too much. I wanted Jake to leave and find someone that deserved him, but we know that doesn't happen in PNR matings.
This is stated as #1 in the series, but because of the information that we are presumed to know, I think there must be a companion series. I might pick up the next book depending on who the MCs turn out to be.

I'm invested to continue this series.. but let's hope the wait isn't REALLY long or this will fall off radar..
It felt like the editing needed a little bit more work.. like * * * in appropriate places to indicate a lapse or jump in location, etc. Other than that I don't have a lot of errors standing out now.
The story.. well I enjoyed it. I do feel confused about pack relations towards omegas vs. submissive.. cus submissive seems like a great rival to keeping pack calm. And Tristan... what I really didn't like about him, letting go of confusion and frustration of how to keep everyone happy... was telling Jake how he's feeling and then almost immediately put on a cold front and deny him again in front of the elders. But Jake.. high fives for him, not only left to get himself sorted but made Tris work to prove himself. No falling almost immediately into bed going on here.

I was so happy when i realized that Jake finally got his book, but my happiness didnt last long when i started reading it because I was so frustrated but i kept reading who knows why.
At first i was kinda ok with Tristan, it was just dislike i felt towards him, but
Dont know if i'm gonna read other books in the series, since Tristan, the jerk alpha, will probably be the biggest feature of them.

It wasn't bad but the Alpha was a jerk. I also wasn't convinced about their sudden change of feelings. The reason for the revelation was given but I didn't really buy it.

I really enjoyed this book, even more than the other series that shares this book-world. The characters are no pushovers; although there is instant attraction it can’t quite be called “insta-love” because the characters have relationship problems, they have character development and then they fall in love. It has a minor building plot in which the Alpha mc had to make a choice between two major things, a moral dilemma for himself; while the Submissive mc had to recognize his own traumas, recover from them, and work towards accepting himself.
Shifters. M/M. 2nd series (read Pack Mates first), crossover. Angst. HEA. Canada. Tiger living in wolf pack. rejected mate.
TW: Homophobic slurs from side characters, rejected mate. son killing father. minor telling of mothers passing by illness.

So I really enjoyed this one. It got me in the feels. Granted Tristan was a bit of a jerk to Jake (ok maybe more than a jerk), but I really liked Jake and I felt for him. He's hidden his nature for so long and subjugated what he wanted for other people. I enjoyed him coming into his own by the end of the book.
I think the only slight downside to this story is that after Tristan screws up and Jake finally stands up for what he needs the pace of the story picks up and it kind of skims over the the repair to their relationship. I didn't question that it got accomplished as their were some time jumps in the story, but I would have liked to see more of it. Still since I had the tears leaking a bit and really enjoyed reading the story I'm leaving my rating.

This is the first in a new series, but as far as I can tell it is another extension of the previous “Pack Mates Series”. You can definitely read this as a standalone, but there is so much more to the story if you have read the other series.
Jake has just decided to leave his long lost unrequited love when Pierce mates Gavin. Tristan, who helped to save Pierce, sees potential in Jake (and maybe something deeper) and it calls to him to bring Jake into his fledgling pack.
Tristan, who has always identified as gay, has just become leader of the very unstable Fraser Lake Pack and thinks/knows that the idiots in his pack won’t tolerate a gay Alpha. However, he can’t help but be both attracted to and comforted from the submissive nature he sees in Jake.
The two dance around their attraction, making it fairly obvious to anyone looking that they are meant to be mates, but refusing to act on it for their own personal reasons.
Finally, in a desperate night of passion, Tristan mistakenly mates Jake and all hell breaks loose.
It will take a lot of back-peddling, some bravery, and the advice of good friends to fix things and get the pack back on solid ground, with the Alpha and his Mate as they should be.

The Pack Mates series is one of my favorites, and this new (related) setting overall is a worthy folllow-on, with one of the characters starting over on the other side of the country. The Alpha was far from perfect, and the Alpha Mate is a true submissive (unlike Quinn in Pack Mates - although Jake is also extremely strong in his own, tigerish way). I am excited to see these new, potentially interesting characters play into future storylines (and, no doubt, heated romances) in future installments.

I was given an advanced copy for an honest review. I absolutely loved it.. this book ties in with the rest of Lynn Tyler's books but can be read as a standalone. My heart went out to Jake through the whole book. I would definitely recommend this book it was an awesome story and I couldn't put it down once I started it.

I liked this a LOT - really hope we don't have to wait too long for more of this series!
Both the MC's were great characters and really likable, even is Tristan did make a lot of mistakes! Jake was a very sweet guy but didn't come off as weak even if he was a submissive tiger.
Looking forward to Chris's story.

It's obvious from my status updates that Tristan pissed me off. I don't like weak MCs and he was WEAK at times. This story had potential but I don't like how Tristan was characterized. It wasn't congruent with his appearance in the previous book.

I loved this story of Tristan and Jake. At some points I wanted to strangle Tristan but in the end we all got what we wanted. This book has some action, some pack politics, a stubborn alpha and some hot sex. I can't wait for there to be a book 2 and hopefully Chris's story

The ending was a little abrupt and it was dull in some places. Overall, it was a really good story. I'm looking forward to the sequels.

Wow. This is the most frustrated I can remember being in a long time with a book. I rarely make comments in the progress / update section as I'm reading. If I am doing that, it means I've been thrown out of the book which isn't good. I have a high tolerance for most things which I often see other readers / reviewers grouse about. But the sum total of this book, for me, left a lot to be desired. I am not sure where to start.
First of all I had to investigate because I felt I jumped into the middle of a series; like I was missing things. I did eventually learn it was an offshoot of another series, but I should have never felt that way in the first place.
I eventually settled back into reading. I liked the basic premise of the story and the characters. Up until about 90% it was probably a solid 3 star book. The issues were minor enough not to interfere too much with the flow of the reading. The writing / editing seemed choppy or cut off. One example, the Councils visit. We know they arrive, but we never hear of them leaving, their reaction to being lied to, nor their reaction to what happened while they were there etc...
I didn't feel the characters were well developed or stayed true. They were all over the place and not consistent. One example is Jake's natural submissiveness doesn't allow him to come at the beginning without permission, yet later that seems to be forgotten even though he is "more at peace" with his submissive side. I could give many other examples of where they do not stay "in character".
Neither character was written very sympathetically. I had to guess or infer what or why they made the choices they did. One example, Jake said it was okay for Tris to call and that he actually hoped Tris would. But then, he refuses to answer his phone for weeks. Huh?
Gracious, I know Tris really hurt Jake but his reaction seemed almost petty or just didn't jive. . Both of them acted way younger than their supposed ages. Some of the time I wasn't even sure I was reading about two males. Though I really wanted to be mad at Tris, I think he was in a tough position and many of us forget what it was life to be that age. He basically had an accidental pack (that's unstable) and an impulsive mating right after college and while starting a business. He very quickly rectified the situation and learned from it.
I don't even know what to say about the last 10% of this read at least not constructively. It was like I received a version that truly hadn't been edited at all. Parts didn't seem to have a purpose. I was really confused in parts; like in one section where either names were mixed up or the author forgot the parental background. All I will say is around 38% the author stated Chris and Tristan's parents were traveling the world together. Yet, we are told a whole other scenario at the end. Another, The council is just randomly mentioned as planning on coming out to humans. No reason why, no background, no explanations, and no connection to the current story. There were parts like the beach scene that to me seemed to come out of no where. There is much more, but I'm ready to move on.
In summary, the books potential was squashed by a rush to write and / or publish.
I believe I have already purchased the 2nd one of this series too, if so I will read it. If not, I probably won't.

Tristan was a weak alpha. He wasn't strong enough to manage his lazy, bigoted pack. He wasn't strong enough to own up to his mate Jason. He never made Jason a pack member. Tristan never took charge, he just reacted to problems. And most importantly, he never redeemed himself for his hurtful treatment of Jason. The ending was rushed and threw in new topics at the last minute. This book was not stand alone and was dependent upon the Pack Mates series.

Accidentally Mated By Lynn Tyler
Tristan and his best friend are part of a pack. They are trying to build up their new forensic accounting business after graduating college. When they ask to borrow the Alpha's car for an interview with an out of town potential client things get heated for other reasons and Tristan challenges the Alpha besting him in a fight he's pretty sure the Alpha didn't want to win in the first place.
While trying to obtain Omega Pierce to help calm his pack that is not in the best of places right now he meets Jake, a tiger shifter, and best friend/bodyguard of the Omega who was taken against his will.
Jake decides to leave with Tristan to escape the unrequited love of Pierce and thus their relationship begins soon after.
The story was disappointing. The storyline itself was okay, the emotions of the characters (aside from Jake's) was just on the surface and barely there. Jake was the only character I felt any kind of emotion for and that was mostly heartache and anger for the way Tristan treated him.

Note: This series is a companion series to the Called to Mate series by Lynn Tyler. While you can read this book without having read the others, there is a storyline for both men in the Called to Mate series that might be important to read.
Jake Trenton is hiding a secret that is far more volatile than the love he harbors for his best friend. Hiding ones true nature is enough to drive anyone insane, but Jake has to hide his feelings for Pierce as well. Add to that what his father did to the Smooth Rock Falls pack and Jake finds himself searching for anywhere else to be besides the Falls.
Tristan Massey never wanted to be alpha, but when his alpha loses focus on what’s best for the pack, Tristan has no choice but to challenge him and step up. He makes the trip to the Falls to try and find an Omega for his pack, what he finds is tiger shifter looking for a way out. Tristan offers Jake sanctuary within his pack and as much as it pains Jake to leave Pierce, he knows he has to cut that string and move on.
The attraction is immediate but both men tamp it down. Jake fears anyone in his new pack learning his true nature so he doesn’t share it with anyone, not even Tristan. And Tristan refused to act on the attraction feeling that his pack won’t accept a gay alpha. When they finally succumb to the attraction Tristan’s wolf does what he has wanted to do since the day they laid eyes on Jake, he claims what is theirs. But Tristan still refuses to admit their mating out loud, actually denying it when asked point blank, and in doing so he drives Jake right back to the Falls.
Called to Mate has always been one of my favorite shifter series and this new spin off promises to be just as good, if not better, than the first. My heart broke for Jake when he was first introduced into the series, how he tried to overcome the wrongs of his father. And now we have Tristan who has to learn that appearance isn’t everything, while he thinks telling his pack he is gay and showing them he loves Jake will make him look weak. He has to learn the love they share will only make them stronger.
As usual, Tyler has this way of showing the vulnerability in characters and then allowing them to grow through love and understanding with her writing. I was drawn into the story from the start and it never lost my attention. The flow was steady, the characters were three dimensional and the storyline was strong. Tristan is strong and passionate even though he’s pigheaded at times as well. Jake is soft and sensual and it’s his level headedness that balances the pack. Now the two of them as a couple have to find their balance.
Definitely a must read for fans of Tyler’s former series as well as anyone that likes shifter stories, strong alpha male romance and rocky road that leads to the perfect Happy ever After.

He hears about an omega and goes to see if he can get them to come over to the pack. But what he gets is Jake, a submissive tiger, trying not to be submissive, who wants a new beginning. Jake is a tiger shifter who has been in love with his best friend for so long he can't remember a time when he wasn't but his mated and Jake knows he has no chance. So when the opportunity arises for him to leave and start a new life he takes it, even if it means leaving his home and his loved ones. All is well in their friendship until Tristan finds out he has to take a mate to stay as alpha. He starts to see things differently, starts to see Jake differently and he knows his in big trouble. His pack will never accept a male alpha mate. Tristan tries hard to stay away but one day he goes too far and ends up accidentally mated. Tristan hides the fact his mated to Jake and ruins the one relationship he really wants. Can he salvage whats left of his relationship and will his pack accept his mate!
This was a really enjoyable book. I like this authors style of writing, its uncomplicated, easy to follow and flows well. The storyline is interesting and the characters are likable. Tristan and Jake are both strong men for different reasons. They both have burdens to carry. They both struggle with them. And that comes across perfectly. They also have a really relaxed relationship, lots of chemistry between them. But when they accidentally mate things change and Tristan treats Jake appallingly. You literally want to stick your hands into the book and slap him round the head. Jake is a great guy and really sweet and you feel so bad for him when Tristan treats him so shockingly. It was quiet an emotional read for me and I had to reach for a tissue more than once. However, I would have liked to have seen(read) Jake stand up to Tristan more for his treatment and behaviour. I know he does eventually but he was just a little too forgiving on too many ocasions for my liking. Otherwise it had a good balance of everything and I really enjoyed it!

Tristan comes home to his pack from College to find it has changed drastically changed, there is no prey to hunt, and everything is falling apart. He and his best friend Chris find the pack bully and some new cronies terrorizing some teenage humans who stumbled onto pack property, Tristan, having become an alpha while away, forces the wolves into submission and then confronts the alpha about the state of the pack and inadvertently challenges him and wins, making him the new alpha! Now faced with the conscious of the pack, the stress of caring and feeding everyone, and starting a new business he becomes very aggressive and close to losing it, he gets an email about an Omega (capable of absorbing a packs aggression with no ill side effects and thus keeping them calm, especially the Alpha) who would like to find a new pack, he is skeptical since Omegas are supposed to be myths but he is desperate so he goes. What he finds is an auction for an obviously unwilling young tiger. He catches what looks like a rescue from the corner of his eye and creates a distraction by bidding a ridiculously high amount allowing the tigers friends to rescue him. Jake is a bodyguard and friend to Pierce (the young Omega tiger up for auction), he is also hopelessly in love with him but Pierce is mated to another. In the battle Jake kills his own father to protect Pierce and refuses to shift back from all the emotional turmoil he is in. Tristan feels peaceful in Jakes presence even though Jake is not an Omega, he offers him an opportunity to move to his pack for a fresh start and Jake accepts. Things go great and then really wrong; as they spend more time together they develop a strong attraction and in the heat of passion Tristan inadvertently mates Jake. Being a new alpha and worried that the pack will not accept a male mate, as well as the Elders insisting he find a mate he makes some really stupid mistakes and breaks Jakes heart. Can Tristan fix it and have their HEA? Read and find out! I really enjoyed following the journey of these two as they discovered first themselves and then each other. Highly recommend reading it!! **Received this book in return for honest review**
