Music brought them together,
But it just might tear them apart.

Leaving New York.
It was the best decision I ever made.
Packing up and moving to the other side of the world changed me.
I turned a new page, leaving the past behind.

Amsterdam felt like home--for a while.
But I was still stuck.
Unable to move forward.

Then, Lou Rivers showed up,
Instantly, I felt my life shift again.

Since I wrote it, I'm kind of obligated to give it five stars, right? I hope you love the story as much as I do!

This Love reminded me of a life I wish I'd led as someone who was once in the performing arts from 6th–9th grade. I truly savored my time as Ella, a classically trained pianist and budding guitarist. Ella came to a crossroads in her life, forced to choose between 2 paths: continuing the future her parents wanted for her or boldly seeking one of her own making.

I loved that this novel was mostly set in Amsterdam, briefly in New York and for some music-making time in Paris, the one city that I

5 stars!

This was such a sweet and heartwarming story. It was beautifully written and veered off the typical path that some romance novels take you.

Ella (h) is trying to find herself, she has moved far away from her family and the pressures they put on her. She thinks she made a good life for herself until she meets Lou (H). He has her questioning her decisions and tries to encourage her to find her way. Ella has a good support system i

I really enjoy books that focus on music so when I found out about this book, I knew that I had to check it out. And I am really glad that I did!

Ella made her way to Amsterdam by running away from home after some trouble with her parents. She is working as an au pair (nanny) for a lovely couple and their child. She has few friends and it seems that life is going great. While playing music on the street, she encounters Lou who is a famous musician from the US. There is instant attraction but the

'This love' is beautiful symphony, telling us the story of Ella Fitzgerald and Lou Rivers. From the first word, I knew that I'd be hooked. And I was. Reading this book was like being in a process of a creation of a song. I was transported into their story, into the beautiful description of the scenery place. The author did a good job to make you travel and li

Another awesome book by Hilaria Alexander! Her stories are rich in emotion with amazing characters! The story just sucks you in from page one. And, the setting that takes place in Amsterdam is mesmerizing. Ella is trying to find meaning in her life. With two classical musicians as her parents, they insist that it's her duty to follow in their footsteps. But, she's done pretending that that is the life for her. So she runs away to Europe. While playing her guitar on the street, a man tips her mor ...more

I really enjoyed reading This Love. The story revolves around music and had its own lyric quality to the storytelling.

Small Adventures, Full Hearts
This book was simply amazing. Hilaria writing is flawless, it has so much feeling and I felt chills reading this book. I loved the self discovery, the simple yet not so simple romance in this book. I loved loved how the culture was brought into this story. It was extremely breathtaking.

Ella I absolutely loved her, she was a quiet , fascinating character. I loved her journey. I loved that she was not the typical female lead that followed the man. She first and foremost followed her dream. Even th

I haven't had the pleasure of reading one of Hilaria's books before and what a loss for me. This book tells a sweet story of a New Yorker (Ella) escaping to Amsterdam and meeting a musician from Nashville (Lou). They have more in common than they know. He is in Amsterdam briefly before heading to Florence to record his next album, but he postpones the session to spend more time with Ella.

After escaping a very dictatorship parenting life style, Ella has time now to explore and find herself. She w

This book was graciously given to us by none other than Ms. Alexander herself and I am so glad that she took a chance on us and let us have a copy. This book was just beautiful all the way around. It starts off with Ella on the sidewalk singing when Lou is stopped by her voice and from there starts the tornado of feelings. Ella and Lou meet, they grow to know each other, feelings start to bloom, and then life butts its head in the way.

What impressed me about this book were all the characters. N

This is my first Hilaria Alexander book. I was delightfully impressed by her writing and story telling, it far exceeded my expectations. The characters and the story are interesting and I found myself getting lost in the book quiet often. It's a story about music, falling in love when you least expect it, and living independently. That's right Ella our heroine is strong willed and determined to make her own way in life no matter who her hero is and what he can do for her. Lou our hero is perfect ...more

This Love by Hilaria Alexander was beautiful. This book just flat did it for me. The writing was excellent, the characters were sweet and relatable, and the storyline was a wonderful ode to standing strong on your own, without falling into the trap of co-dependency.

Ella and Lou had that gorgeous love story that everyone sighs about. They were sweet, funny, loving, and sappy, without the overload that takes it from romance to sickly-sweet. Hilaria Alexander balanced her characters with expert ski

Such a beautiful book! I really enjoyed This Love by Hilaria Alexander. Lou is a swoon-worthy hero and he's a musician! My weakness!! I loved Ella's progression during the story, watching her grow as she discovers who she is and what she is meant to do. Of course, there are obstacles getting in the way but like any good love story, nothing is easy. Love takes work and as they both grow and discover each other, their story unfolds like a perfect love song. A definite must read for those who love ...more

This Love is great! I had not read Hilaria Alexander before and was delighted by her story telling. I fell in love with Lou Rivers fast! He was down right swoon worthy. He was so patient and kind and loving to our heroine Ella. I love Ella's character. She was strong but vulnerable. She needed guidance to find her right path at life and it was amazing to follow her on that journey!

I will definitely be watching out for more books by Ms Alexander. I truly enjoyed being sucked into her world she c

At first this book was a little difficult to stay interested in. The writing seemed a little choppy, it didn’t flow from sentence to sentence and the story needed a little more depth. But then I started getting interested in the characters, Ella and Lou. Music connected them and it was Lou who helped Ella find her way back to her love of music. But Ella refuses to give up her life to follow Lou. They both try to have their own lives then realize they love each other to much and have to find a wa ...more

Do you ever read those books that make you want to travel the world or wish you had a hidden talent to explore? That is exactly what I felt when I finished this book. THIS LOVE by Hilaria Alexander whisked me away and I have been bit by the wanderlust bug. I need a one way ticket to Amsterdam! This story was a beautiful tale of love, life, choices, and music. I loved how Hilaria was able to seamlessly weave those themes together to create a story that was captivating.

I really love discovering new authors. So when Miss Hilaria messaged me and asked to check out her book, I dove into goodreads and immediately got hooked with the blurb. I always have a heart for stories that included music. And in this debut novel, Hilaria Alexander captured the passion of two musicians and the serenity it brought them in the city of Amsterdam.

I’ve discovered Hilaria Alexander when reading FU CANCER. This book took my breath away by its realism. She managed to write a real love story revolving around a mother fighting cancer and falling in love. It was a beautiful book.

It is without surprise that I tehn turned toward her other books.

This Love is not as tragic as FU CANCER was but it completely floored me. The “artsy” part of me loved all the musical references, the artistic ones.

Five romantic, soul searching, true love stars!

Hilaria has created a beautiful love story between two musicians who met at a time in their lives when both were in the midst of major life turnarounds. Ella Fitzpatrick, green eyed with wild curls, was a classically trained musician who recently escaped her parent-controlled life in New York and Lou Rivers, with the beautiful eyes and soulful voice, was a Grammy-nominated artist and recent divorcee working on his next album in Europe. I wish I could say I loved this book like so many others did.
But I really wasn't feeling this book.

First impression of Ella...
Was not a very good one. She was super mean for no reason to Lou. And was like that with him off and on through out the book.

Besides her parents being pushy. I don't understand why Ella was always holding back in the love department. Nothing big or tragic happened to her. And I really don't understand why she had to keep everything a secret from Lou. To me... the reason

I've already read it several times, and I each time I like it a bit more. Ella and Lou are great characters--it even inspired a photograph assignment last semester.

Hilaria loves books, loves music, and combines these two passions in both her novels, creating a story full of dreams for readers who don''t need or want tawdry love stories and soap opera worthy love triangles. They're ordinary people on a realistic journey through life. No stepbrother billionaires, no forbidden romances.

I just finished reading This Love.
And I love this!

It's a fantastic lovestory between Lou and Ella who each had individual struggles, both trying to find themselves , and they found each each other.

This is only Hilaria Alexander's second book, but she writes like a seasoned writer. Her talent is exemplary in so many respects, from the original plot , the inspiring theme, the relatable characters , the passion expressed. Simply beautiful.
