I liked how the book had colourful photography, referring the place, page, website details, contact details. It has great itineraries, how to make the best of your trip. Tips, Restaurants, nightlife, architectural highlights, hotels. Super useful with updated information.
I read this book mainly for prepping my trip to “Miami”, it was good to read about the other areas.
All I can hear is Will Smith’s song “Welcome to Miami” playing in head on a loop as I read the travel book.
I liked the food recommendations. Must try Cuban dishes: Arroz Con Pollo (chicken and rice Cuban comfort food). Bistec De Palomilla (thinly sliced sirloin steak marinated in lime, garlic and fried onions). Ropa vieja (slow-cooked, shredded flank steak in garlic tomato sauce). Desserts: Tres Leches “three milks”, Pastelitos, traditional flavours include plain guava, guava with cream cheese, cream cheese with coconut. Drinks: Guarapo (fresh sugarcane juice), Batido (Cuban style milkshake made with tropical fruits like mango, pina (pineapple), or Mamey. Batido de trigo (wheat shake that will remind you of sugar-glazed cereal). Fritas - hamburger. Lechon Asado - fresh ham, entire pig marinated in mojo criollo Tostones (fried plantains) Yuca (starchy tuber with a mild nut taste, sliced into fat sticks and deep fried like fries.
“Avoid driving during the rush hours of 7-9 am and 5-7 pm —the hour just after and right before the peak times and can be slow going.”
Public Transportation: - Miami Dade Transit Agency - Metro bus - Metrorail - Metromover - Tri-Rail - Taxi: “most use uber and lyft, but old school taxis still exist. Except in South Beach, it’s difficult to hail a cab on the street. In most cases you’ll need to call a cab company or have a hotel doorman hail one for you. Taxi drivers in Miami are notorious for bad customer service and not having credit card machines in their vehicles. SO ASK WHEN YOU GET IN! - Taxi companies: Central Cab: 305 532 5555 - Train.

This travel guide was very helpful in planning a winter family vacation to Florida. We had never been to Florida before and did not want to deal with Orlando theme park crowds/prices at peak season. As I read through each section of the book, I made notes of the places/activities that sounded interesting to us. Working from the list while consulting (1) a map, (2) tripadvisor.com for detailed reviews, and (3) weather.com for forecasts for the cities we were considering visiting (not everyplace in Florida is warm in the winter!), we created a doable itinerary and enjoyed a wonderful vacation!
as usual, guidebooks are biased and can have some fairly interesting wording (i'm not used to someone saying i should "gyrate" at a jazz concert). glossed over several areas including tallahassee and the panhandle in favor of the larger metros. not the book if you're looking for lesser known places to go or if you just moved to florida.
Everything you need to know about Florida is in this book. I live in South Florida and have traveled the state many times. This book is a perfect addition for any traveler and even for residents of the state. Provides the history as well as restaurant and local shops and attractions to visit with pretty accurate admission fees.
I still consider myself a "baby-still adjusting" to Florida and this book has "put me on" to just about everything that Florida has to offer not only places to visit but places to know about !!!
