The Spirit Filled Life

by John MacNeil

On every hand a lack of something is being felt and expressed by God's people. Their Christian experience is not what they expected it would be. Instead of expected victory, it is oft-recurring, dreaded defeat; instead of soul satisfaction it is soul hunger; instead of deep, abiding heart rest, it is disquiet and discontent; instead of advancing, it is losing ground. Is this all Christ meant when He said, "Come unto Me"? Is this life of constant disappointment the normal life of the Bible Christian? To these sad questionings the Divine Word answers with an emphatic "No"... -from The Spirit-Filled Life This little classic of late-19th-century Protestantism, first published in 1896, is a clearly written introduction to the theology of the Holy Spirit for "born-again" Christians seeking to be "filled with the spirit of Christ." The author . why unity with the Holy Spirit is every Christian's birthright . how to cleanse oneself of sin in preparation for the Holy Spirit's arrival . how to consecrate the soul of sin in order to welcome the Holy Spirit . how to claim communion with the Holy Spirit . what impure motives to avoid when building a new relationship with the Holy Spirit . and more. Totally had some gems in it but this book is from the 1890s and it feels like it! Haha a good read.

It is an amazing life changing little book when you grasp the truths of God's word concerning the abiding presence of God. The Holy Spirit of God is often viewed as a channel of communication to God rather than God himself in you. When you are able to grasp this simple truth and further solidify this belief with God's word it is amazing how God works in a willing vessel yielded for His glory and not your own.

I highly recommend The Spirit - Filled Life if you are truly seeking the Lord to work mightily in your life and to be effective in the lives of others. Truth is what triumphs over the shallow nominal Christianity that is prevalent in our culture. True Christianity ceases to be about me and it is ALL about HIM.

This little book was simply a boost in my own Christian life, confirming what God has already been showing through His word. To take full advantage of this book, it is essential that you have a vibrant relationship or even the desire to grow your relationship with the Lord and that you are reading, studying, meditating and so on in God's word. Historically, God has used this book to impact lives in the past especially those involved in incredible revivals.

Published in 1896, this is a brief but powerful message concerning the Spirit-filled life. A simple, yet profound, explanation of what fullness of the Spirit is, how to obtain it, and how to maintain it.
