Sometimes there is more than one way to get lucky…

Allison Parker knows winning the New York state lottery is impossible for a retail slave and fashion designer wanna-be who doesn’t, uh, play the lottery. But after a particularly bad day at work and a random prediction from a quirky psychic, she does just that, and wins. Money. Lots of it.

Sweet, sexy and a little silly too! How to Get Lucky was a blast as rock god Marco finally meets his match in a sass-ily sarcastic New Yorker who's...less than enamored with his musical, erm, charms.

The quick of it is that during a night out with friends Allison catches Marco's eye. Not because she's fawning over him and his fame or musical talents but exactly the opposite. Chickie is not impressed with his fame and the gaggle of women following him around and can't quite keep her mouth shut abo

I feel like I should have liked this one more that I did. I liked Allison's bluntness, loved how she wouldn't give Marco and inch despite him being famous. It was fun to see Marco react to being treated like a normal person. Yet I was bored with what was going on. In the end, this one just wasn't for me.

I always enjoy Erin McCarthy's books. HOWEVER, this book was HORRIBLY edited. Grammar errors EVERYWHERE. And I was not reading an ARC. I was reading a book that I paid full price for so this was super frustrating to me. But the story was cute and highly enjoyable.

This one sounded really good judging by the synopsis. A "down-on-her-luck" fashionista working a crappy job who wins the lottery, who doesn't want to fall in love but meets a good guy, really caught my interest. I'm fascinated by the lottery and how that would affect someone's life by winning so I gave this a try. I enjoyed McCarthy's "True Believers" series so I had high hopes she could win me with this one.

The first half of the book was really good. Allison does in fact win the lottery and dur

I have been waiting years….and I mean years….for Erin McCarthy to pick this series back up. The only reason I haven’t completely rebelled against this amazing author is due to the fact that she has published dozens of awesome books for my reading pleasure in the meantime. In How To Get Lucky the third installment of Erin McCarthy’s Sexy in NYC, the reader is re-introduced to Allison Parker. Because it has been a while since You Don’t Know Jack and, my absolute favorite, The Pregnancy Test - you ...more

After another day from hell at work Allison Parkers luck is about to change. Not only has she won the lottery she has caught the attention of Marco Lucky a famous music artist.

Marco Lucky is ready for a change. A life of drinking, drugs and random women has gotten stale. When he sees Allison he can't help but notice that she is the only woman in the room not going crazy over him. Se doesn't ask for an autograph or a picture in fact she wants him to stop trying to steal her lime light!

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

How to Get Lucky by Erin McCarthy is the story about Allison Parker, who's not having the best life. She gets told by her supposedly psychic friend that love just isn't in the cards for her. But money is. So the friend convinces her to buy a lottery ticket. Which she does. And she wins. Then she meets a rock star and her life changes in ways she can't imagine.

I really liked this book. There was humor and romance and a whole l

Allison Parker was hanging at the local bar with her friends, lamenting her lack of a successful life when her psychic friend makes a prediction that may or may not change her life. While at the bar, she made some rude comments about a rock star who was at the bar and being mobbed by fans. When he heard her, to save face, she kept up with the snarky remarks. Rather than be totally offended at the brunette’s comments, Marco Lucky

HOW TO GET LUCKY was a wonderful read and wish that Erin Mccarthy would write one final book to tie up everyone's story, I need to know what happened and where everyone is now. That being said, HOW TO GET LUCKY is the third book in the series, each book being about one girl in a group of friends, each friend having had a crap love life. Each book starts with Beckwith, a cross dressing physic, reading the girls fortune and of course they don't believe what he is telling them will come true. This ...more

Allison is really down on her luck in many ways. She has no money and she cant stand her job. Allison can barely afford her apartment but guess what she has good friends and they are willing to let her stay with them until she can get back on her feet.

Marco is the ultimate rock star with the tattoo's and the band members. He is hanging out get a drink and has a chance meeting with Allison . She is so different than all of the other groupies he usually hangs around with. She is snarky and gives i

I usually prefer character driven plots over conflict driven plots, but this could have used a little more conflict. I suspect Erin McCarthy assumes readers are just as familiar with Allison's backstory as they would have been 7 years ago when You Don't Know Jack came out since this is a continuation of that series. That wasn't the case for me, however, so I spent a lot of time wondering why Allison was so angry and snarky. Actually, she was really rude a lot of the time, not just snarky, so it ...more

This was a fun book by Erin McCarthy. Allison Parker is living in New York trying to breakout in the fashion industry, but until her big break comes she's working at a cosmetic company because she needs to pay the bills. Her best friends and roommates have recently found the love of their lives and moved out leaving Allison to pay the rent on her own. On top of the that Allison has decided she doesn't trust guys and is taking a break from dating.

Allison is not having a great night. She's just learned from her psychic friend that love is not in the cards for her, she's working in a crappy retail job, and she's just insulted Marco Lucky. Allison pulls out her trademark sass when the sexy rock star responds. Marco is so over the random hookups and hangovers from his past. He's feeling out of sorts when he runs into Allison in the bar and her ability to treat him as any other man is intriguing and provides a much needed breath of fresh air. ...more
Okay, I had to DNF this book. I was enjoying it, too, but one aspect made me WTF...

What the everloving fuck was up with the portrayal of the transgender character?
The heroine's narration refered to him as a "transgender man". And that's fine. But he kept acting like the most stereotypical gay guy, asking for Chanel bags and so on. So he's a transgender man who really enjoys feminine pursuits? I mean, okay. I'm not saying that's not possible, but I have to be honest... I think it's more likely th

In her latest novel “How To Get Lucky,” Erin McCarthy brings her strong wit and passionate voice to her heroine, Allison Parker. Allison is in a place in her life where she feels as if she is treading water with little or no direction until a chance encounter with a rock star and a lottery ticket help to chart a new course in her life. Allison and Marco Lucky seem to have both found what they were looking for even though neither one seems to be willing to accept their fate. Their story is filled ...more

The third in the Sexy in NYC series features Allison, a pragmatic, sarcastic woman who meets Marco de Lucky, a successful rock star. All the books of this series begins with a psychic reading by Beckwith, a cross dressing ex-con. This time telling Allison her fortune, she will be lucky in money, but not in love. The story progresses in all the ways Allison can get lucky, or unlucky in some instances.

I loved this book. I've read many of Erin McCarthy's book and have enjoyed all of them. She has a way of writing dialog between friends and lovers that just makes me laugh and wish they were my friends. Allison was so sassy and blunt, maybe to much for some but Marco found her refreshing and someone he wanted to spend time with. She didn't bow down to his stardom but treated him like a regular person unlike most everyone he meets. The book is full of hot as hell sexiness, chemistry that's o

In one word for Marco Lucky is sweet. I loved how Erin McCarthy made this guy to seem like an arrogant, shelfish rock star yet he is much more than a musician. Everybody sees him as a rockstar yet meeting Allison he is seeing life in a different way and it is so fun to see it between them. I loved that Erin created Allison as tough as nails yet beneath all the toughness is a woman who just wants to be loved. I loved how easy Allison and Marco got along wit

Allison and rockstar Lucky share an unlikely bond and chemistry that really makes this book a heartwarming, funny and interesting read. I can always count on Erin McCarthy to have a compelling, well-written plot and characters that I can identify with and genuinely like. That was especially true in this book.

Charming story but unrealistic. It is a great story about an underdog girl who falls in love with a star. I thought the main characters could have been developed a little bit more, however, they were fun loving and easy to understand. I like how Allison does not give up her standards and ethics to mooch off of her boyfriend. I think the author did a nice job instilling the concept.
