A gentle, simple yet romantic story for dreamy souls.

Maybe it's Alexander Grin's Scarlet Sails is a fairly classic work of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. At first, when I held the book in my hand, I was quite surprised because this classic is quite... thin, very different from my initial imagination of a work of such stature.

The story is about the fateful love between the sailor Arthur Gray and the girl Assol (I prefer the original name, although the characters' names are transliterated into Vietnamese in the book). Two people with two different backgrounds and lives, but then fate brought them to find each other. And go to the love of his life.

Gray is a well-to-do son. However, because of his desire to explore and experience life, he gave up a luxurious life to go to the beach to follow his hobby. I really appreciate and admire the people like that. After hardships and time, he also has enough experience and bravery to be the captain of a ship called The Secret, roaming around the world.

As for Assol, she is the daughter of a sailor who has left the sea to return home to take care of his poor little daughter who has been orphaned since her birth - Mr. Longren. I also quite like this man's personality, living as himself, not needing to be others, and not caring what others think of him. This is evident when he is determined to leave the formerly rich man who left his wife to die. But in the end, he didn't die. He makes toys for children and then sells them for money, a peaceful life with his daughter is enough for him, regardless of what people out there say. Even if he avoids his father and his son, he will not mind. I really like people with such bravery in life.

Then Assol and Gray met for the first time when his boat pulled into the Kapona region, he caught sight of the sleeping girl and fell in love with her ever since. He put the ring on her finger and returned to his boat. The crimson sail was born later when he went to buy cloth to decorate his boat and to bring her back. He even hired a great classical orchestra to play for the ceremony that day. And Mr. Gray took Assol back to the ship The Crimson Secret.

The story is simple, the plot is poetic and romantic, and the happy ending (foretold) of the fairy tales. By chance in the tiring days of life, turning this beautiful little book is also quite good, giving us a little more daydreaming and making life a little more dreamy...
