Writing

Having read two other books by Michael Selden, I confess that I enjoy his writing. The reason I call it a brave work is because many a times, some authors fail

This was my first time reading anything by Michael Selden and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. Mr. Selden writes young adult novel that is about a young girl called Phoebe ,and she seems to have different ability's from others, and that could lead to her being a target .She has always been troubled with vivid dreams and voices in her head that have plagued her for as long as she can remember. As for her father and herself they have worked hard to hide her gifts, from the ...more

The Balance by Michael Selden is the story of Phoebe, orphaned as the result of a catastrophic event. Adopted and raised in a new world, Phoebe must find a way to survive among those who would target her for having different abilities. There is a web of subterfuge around Phoebe that neither she nor her family are aware of, positioning and plotting, her world will never be the same again.

The Balance is the first of a 3-book series - thank goodness! The book started off slightly slower because

I received this as a free gift from Goodreads. It was something different and I really enjoyed it. If there was a follow up book I'd be keen to read it. I sympathized with Phoebe. She just wanted to be 'normal and felt like a freak. Having gifts, that she had to keep secret and learn to control alone, made her everyday life fraught with danger. The earth had been hit by a comet and the two factions that rose to bring order to the world were completely opposite in their agendas. The Council of ...more

Interesting.

Had a hard time getting into the storyline. But, when I did...I had an equally hard time putting the book down. I really felt sad for Phoebe. It's hard enough being a teenager without having the gift she had. Glad to see the book end on the note it did though. Would recommend it to other readers.

The Balance

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I thought the author did a nice job of laying out the background and world building. The characters were also very interesting. I would definitely read another book by Mr. Sheldon. I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

I am a reader and a writer, although I was also a research physicist for about 30 years—believe it or not writing and imagination are almost as important in physics as is an understanding of how the world works, and mathematics.

I've read so many many books I can't possibly remember them all, and I don't really try. I've put a few on my list here, but I had a habit of going on reading binges where

“But just being whatever it is that I am . . . I don’t think that makes me a monster. Believe me, I know. ere are plenty of real monsters walking around out there in the world. ey look respectable, but can’t hide who they are from me.
