This book was read and reviewed by Tamara at Dover Free Library... Nice read aloud book for children ages 4-7 with the message of "be who you were made to be" and "contentment" Little Sleepy Songbird can't understand why it is too difficult to get up early to sing with the morning songbirds no matter how much effort is made, until another bird, a nightingale, explains to the sleepy songbird that Nightingales were meant to sing in the evening. Sweet illustrations and story about a bird searching for its song. While it knows that it has a song to share, it desperately wants to join others and sing with them. Although not rejected, it doesn't quite fit in UNTIL this small bird discovers there is a place and time where it is meant to sing. Great for storytimes about individuality and musical abilities. Highly recommended.

Peep wants to sing with the Dawn Chorus, but he stays up too late practicing and falls asleep before he can audition. After several tries, Peep finds out why he can't wake up early to sing with the others... Peep is a nightingale! Now Peep sings in the evening with his friends.

Theme is being true to yourself and honoring your innate abilities. Illustrations incorporate some use of collage into a more traditional children's picture book art style, the result of which is quite pleasing to the eye.

Perfectly fine take on the ugly duckling/find your place in the world type story. The illustrations are pretty, but other than that it wasn't anything that spectacular.
