The Well-Presented Manuscript: Just What You Need to Know to Make Your Fiction Look Professional is a reference book about not making common writing errors that would get your manuscript rejected right off the bat. It’s a lot more than that, though, being an extended grammar lesson for those, like me, who might have forgotten everything we were once taught about sentence structure and the building blocks of sentences. Many of us learned rules of grammar long ago, and know what’s right and wrong ...more

I recently donated a large box of writing books to the library, including my copy of The Elements of Style. I'd owned it for a long time and had never found it useful for what I actually needed in my writing.

So why are there so many badly edited books in the marketplace? The theory behind The Well-Presented Manuscript is, 'perhaps the author doesn't know what he doesn't know.'

This briskly paced guide (for reading, as opposed to a resource for consulting) illustrates the most common pitfalls of grammar, punctuat

An excellent resource for writers. Grammar explained in practical terms for novelists, and, surprisingly, not at all boring.

For someone with an English degree, Mike Reeves-McMillan has spent a surprising amount of time wearing a hard hat. He's also studied ritualmaking, hypnotherapy and health science.

He lives in Auckland, New Zealand, the setting of his Auckland Allies contemporary urban fantasy series; and also in his head, where the weather is more reliable, and there are a lot more wizards.
