Dear Author,
I’ve fought hard to win my freedom from the beasts who’ve enslaved me but no matter how many battles I win, they refuse to keep their word. I’ve finally given up. Now, after winning my latest battle, I’m on my knees still in my warrior form in front of the head beast. I know I’m about to die. With his claws out and ready to strike, I just can’t bring myself to

Entertainment, bloodlust, and profit.

Strong species' descriptions and differentiation with the different shifters. More intrigue than romance in this story, which frankly was great. A few questions remain, but as a short story for this event--very, very nice. Small misgiving, alright, I actually growled at the ending not because it was bad because it was so antithetical to every fiber of my being that felt physiologically compelled. Uncontrollable.

Thanks to the author for participating and shar

My first LOR jelly story!! Go jellies!!!

First off, my thanks to the author and the LOR team.
Wow, just wow. One of the things I loooove most is when writers try new things. Well, Ofelia tried a new thing :D So hats off, bravo, tickedy boo!!
This is a really astonishing story. When I got to the end, I realised that I forgot it was about shifters, and thought the characters were men. I have no idea what that says, but it seems to me that if anyo

First off ...

Okay, now that we have that out of the way, I can get to my review.

Blood and Sand is about Zoe, an enslaved lizard shifter and his owner Wojtek, a wolf shifter

Can you see the sexual tension? HELLYEAH you can!

Wojtek is the head of his pack, a pack that makes their scratch through illegal slave fights. He came into power after the untimely death of his father. While he seems to be a a strong wolf, the most important thing to his pack's way of thinkin

Wow... this story didn't grab me right at the begining... but when it did it got me in a stranglehold and didn't let go till the end. So many tears... for such a short story the author not only created a unique and vibrant world, but did such an amazing job of putting me in the head of the main characters that it felt like I was living the story. I know it is not likely, but I seriously wish for more of Zoe and Wojtek, where do they go and what happens to them. The ending was kinda abrupt, thus ...more

Dear Ofelia,

Can I please has some more? Please?

Meet Wojtek, Alpha of a small werewolf pack. He's fierce, short tempered, and has a strong affection for orchids.

He really loves his orchids. He cares for them far better than the Lizardian slaves he uses to flight and bet with in the fighting pits. To him, the creepy crawler reptiles are just property; a way to make money for his pack, and how they are kept or treated is none of his concern. That is until he's forced to choose between ki

So my review is basically going to consist of me begging the author for another story. I need MORE Ofelia Grand. I want to know what happens next. I need a first kiss. New beginnings. The rebuilding of pack...or not.

PLEASE let there be more in the pipeline.

Thank you for your time and participation in this event - I loved this story. Completely different and thoroughly engaging. :)

I enjoyed reading this story very much. The characters are interesting, the idea of lizard shifters and wolf shifters is fascinating, and the setup - one warrior at the mercy of the other and waiting for death, created immediate narrative tension.

I loved the descriptions of the shifters, especially of Zoe with his scales and his forked tongue. The author dealt with a lot of the aspects of being a lizard in ways that seemed realistic, from the reaction to temperature changes and humidity to scent

Well, I hate 95% of the stories that tell about "love" between a master and a slave. I still keep reading them because sometimes I find one where the word love can be used without quotation marks. Unfortunately, Blood on Sand goes to those 95%. It didn't work for me. It didn't convince me. It didn't make me believe in love. So Wojtek sniffed Zoe close for a week and now his lizard fighter isn't a piece of meat for him any more? So Zoe was taken good care for a week and now he's happy t

First read of the Love on the Open Road event, and not a disappointment. The story is not long enough for the tale it is telling, but that's unsurprising given the constraints of the event. I especially enjoyed the picture of a reptile shifter, since those are so rare in the genre; I also respected how the author refused to pull any punches evoking the unreflecting obviousness and cruelty of those who most benefit from an oppressive culture.

Many thanks to Ofelia Gränd for contributing!

I love the creativity and uniqueness of this book. The characters are right up my ally too. They feel relatable and real, but bigger than life as well. However, this seems like a part 1 of a much larger book instead of a completed story. I hope the writer will continue with this book because it has a bucketload of potential.
Sometimes one tiny detail out of place stands out and ruins an otherwise perfectly good story and sometimes, no matter how many things are wrong with it, a story just works for you.
For me, Blood on Sand fell into the second category. I just wish there was more on what’s next for Zoe and Wojtek.

Wojtek is an Alpha of a werewolf pack. He runs a fighting ring, as (it seems) many of the (‘high and mighty’) different shifters do. They kidnap and enslave ‘lower rank’ shifters and use the mas fighters. Wojtek uses Lizards. This is how life has always been and he never took a moment to view them as anything more than replaceable materials. He didn’t look at them and think ‘living being’ that had feelings, hopes, dreams, etc.

Then one night, his star fighter, a pretty(and one of a kind) green o

The first thing I noticed about this book is a huge pet peeve of mine: Male characters with female names. I just hate that but the story was so intriguing that I got over myself quick. It's been a while since I've read a paranormal story and I liked that we got something different here with a lizard shifter.

There is no sex in the story but it didn't matter. You could feel Wojtek's growing feelings for Zoe and vice versa. I was on pins and needles the entire time because I couldn't figure out wh

One of those little gems that the DRitC events throw up.
Lizards, wolf and bovine shifters and arena fighting would normally be a pass for me but I do like to read all of each years offerings. And I would have missed a gem with this one. (And until the Minotaur reference was made, I was imagining Freisan milkers!!)
Zoe is desparate to escape his imprisonment in any way and has resorted to purposefully courting death. However, his owner Wojtek will not give him his escape. After living in enforced
I really liked this story. My only issue is that I want to know more! :) Please say the will be a sequel. I want to know more about Wojtek and Zoe, and I'd love to get Satul's story as well! ...more
No real relationship development between the main characters. Everything was rushed and the ending was just fucking stupid.

This is one of the most imaginative shifter stories I have read in a while. First, you have a multishifter society which is all about the strongest ruling the weaker species, with a minotaur at the top, closely followed by werewolves. Second, like in Roman times, status is largely determined by fights in the arena, and the shifters with the most wins under their slaves’ belts are in charge. Third, just to throw me for a loop, the shifters have a twitter feed to inform their fans. Yes, it may all ...more

One growly werewolf Master with an unavowable crush.
One snarky lizardian slave with a stubborn death wish.
A bet, a ruse, a twist of fate. Battles, bloodlust, and the bonds of brotherhood.
Raw, riveting, and fan-freakin-tastic.
Great cast of secondary characters ---> Koray! Satul! More, please :)

4,5 stars.
The paranormal aspect of the story, with many different types of shifters, was interesting, the intrigue also, the romance was weaker. Most of the characters had a potential to grow or seemed to have some kind of secret, which I see as a good thing. The story in general had so many loose ends that it would be a shame not to write more about Wojtek and Zoe, or Satul or even Tedor.

This is the type of story I will finish and go immediately after to amazon to look for the next book in the series.

The blurb for this story had me intrigued, a shifter type world, where the type of shifter you were born dictated my our place and value in society. Zoe has had enough, snatched from his home lands in the south and taken to the colder North, as a lizard shifter, he and the other slaves struggle to survive in the conditions they are held in, in the slave house.
Made to fight over and over again for a slave master, the slaves are told that if they win enough bouts they will gain their freedom, but

Only can agree on Kristan: the author did a wonderful job fullfiling the prompt creating a unique world. I'm still not sure if it's high fantasy or urban fantasy with secret societies. I liked the characterization of the different species and the intrigue Ofelia Gränd has inwoven into her story was a good one ... and I loved Zoe and what's there not to love about him and I wouldn't mind if there was more space for Koray.

So from a world-setting, story-line and characterization point of view it's
Gripping story, really loved it. The differentiation between the shifters was done very well!!
There was a bit too much "instalove" if I'm allowed to say so. While I can understand the werewolves part of getting to care about someone he smells all the time it's not love but I'd live with that. Zoe's side was a bit a mystery for me. While the specie differences were well worked out and I loved to read about them, the world creation was lacking, There where quite a bit of things that made me hesita

So I read the blurb and I have to say I had no flippin' idea what was going on but for some reason I got this book anyway and I so glad.
The beginning just sucked me in with all the shifters and Zoe's pain kept me in the whole time. His character was so interesting and I felt Grand needs more space to tell me more. There are a few quibbles more world building needs to be added and the ending left me more then a few worries about what will happen to our merry men. It was way, way too short. I sti
