Originally a limited edition chapbook from by Villipede Publications. Baby's Breath is a terrifying story of a relationship falling apart after an unexpected pregnancy.

Ben and Diane seem to be very much in love, but once a baby is on the way things become less than ideal.

Baby's Breath is subtlety disturbing. What I really loved about this tale is the tone of Diane as she tells her story. Sweet, innocent, the voice of a loving mother, but Oh. My. God.

A delightfully demented quick read

Diane becomes pregnant and is fearful about how that will affect her husband. Her fear of losing him, coupled with her constant jealousy, transforms into a paranoia that is only confirmed by her husband increasing alienation from her. That is the starting point for Sydney Leigh's poignant and creepy short work of fiction, Baby Breath.

Baby's Breath is the kind of short fiction that excites me. It slowly sneaks up on you until the end when you are hit with the big surprise. The author has an eerie

Short stories are a stubborn bunch--give too much and they lose effectiveness--provide too little and they leave the reader feeling empty. Sydney Leigh's BABY'S BREATH is neither. Whether viewed as social commentary about the burden women bear during pregnancy, the metaphorical or literal spiraling descent of a pregnant woman's physiology and psyche as a result of rejection and abondonment, or a straight horror tale of a marriage gone terribly wrong, Leigh has crafted an edge-of-your-seat, nail- ...more

Creeping madness and death. A tour de force of terror.

If the cover of BABY’S BREATH doesn’t mesmerize you and pique your curiosity, there must be something wrong with you. If I were to find this book on a shelf, I’d snatch it up for sure before I even knew what it was about or who wrote it. Author Sydney Leigh offers much more than just a pretty face for this story, however, and I guarantee you’ll be haunted by this one long after the final sentence.

Ok, so this is actually a short story, and not a book…but it IS in book format, and the cover IS ama

I very much enjoyed Sydney Leigh's excellent and totally creepy story, Baby's Breath. After a tragic pregnancy, Diane still finds an interesting way to remain a mother of sorts and continues to nurture life. This "gut punch" will continue to remain with me as much as Richard Matheson's Born Of Man And Woman. I can't recommend it enough. It so richly deserved its Bram Stoker Award nomination for Superior Achievement In Short Fiction this year.

Baby’s Breath is a shocking tale of betrayal, revenge, and madness. With pitch perfect characterization, and just the right mix of real life and the macabre, Baby’s Breath delivers timeless terrors that stay with you well after the story ends. Sydney Leigh is a writer headed for the big-time!

I learned about this story from seeing Sydney Leigh on the Taco Society on YouTube. This is a expertly crafted experience into some really dark territory with subtle social commentary in the mix. I really enjoyed it.

This is a high-tension look at a relationship and pregnancy gone very, very wrong, a polished horror story slippery with gore. Very well executed, and eye opening for this male reader.
