Imaginative and funny!

On the table, there was an apple. But wait a minute. It might not be an apple at all...

This is a crazy book. I'm not saying it's not. But it's also cute and funny and yes a little wacky. It has so much imagination and my students could not stop laughing. Which was so funny to me, I didn't find it at all amusing when I first read it BUT they loved it. They wanted more. They loved the story and it became a classroom favorite.

I need to remember this. Kids need all types of books. They need me to r

I loved it. The imagination that the kid has is amazing. Some of the scenarios that he thinks up are laugh out loud funny

A young boy comes home from school and finds an apple on the table. At least, he thinks it's an apple but it might be a fish rolled up to look like an apple, it could be half apple / half orange, or nothing but peel within peel. The apple might have feelings, the apple might have friends and relatives somewhere. The apple might be planning something. The apple could be from outer space and be home to tiny little apple aliens that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. There is no way to know ...more

I translated this book for my niece, but didn't actually give the book to her. Now... I thought the book was really interesting. The philosophical stuff is a bit heady for kids, but it's interesting. The book is also endlessly imaginative, which I love--basically it's about a kid imagining an apple on the kitchen table to be a million different things. However, I ended up NOT giving the book to my niece because of two things.

One, there is a sequence in which the father comes home drunk. I figur

I love Yoshitake's children books. The illustration is simple yet very cute. Best of all, the content encourages creativity, and it also comes with knowledge about rhyming this time. What could an apple be? There are much more possibilities than you think it could be in this book! Great read for adults also.

So wacky! Found this in the Kinokuniya store on Bryant Park and had to buy it for a friend's kid, since it's just so crazy.

It is a great book with some philosophy about apples. This is a great introduction to philosophy to kids with a bit of humor for it to be more enjoyable.

At first glance this is a beautiful book that offers playful designs to reimagine an ordinary apple. In taking my time to explore it (along with the aid of an English translation available online and a student-made translation), I found that it to be a tale of the power of imagination. In a world of red and yellow hues, a curious boy is thrown into a mind-maze of ideas when he discovers a red apple on his table. Distrusting its convincing apple-like appearance, the child questions what it could ...more

Da

A little kid sees an apple on a table but then starts to question whether it's really an apple. If it isn't an apple, what else could it be?

This is one of those books that it's hard to tell whether to classify it as a picture book or a graphic novel. I decided to not decide and put it in both of those shelves in my Goodreads. I am leaning a little more towards graphic novel because of the layout of some page spreads. Regardless, the book whatever it may be is philosophical in nature wondering if

So I'm a huge fan of Shinsuke Yoshitake (I'd kill for an English translation of yochi yochi chichi to madou hibi) but the ones that have been translated in English are all really good and beautifully bound (they don't have slipcovers, which I totally approve as my small child tears them up anyway - both the Thames & Hudson prints and the Abrams Books for Young Readers prints do the same). It's a story about a boy's wild imagination over an apple. This particular book is a little too wordy for a ...more

As a student in his first years of school, the Japanese artist Shinsuke Yoshitake was pressed by his teachers’ question What do you want to become in life? Later he would realize that life is not rigid and linear but flexible and fulfilling.

It might be an apple is a philosophical picture book that questions our perception of things, insisting on the multiplicity of viewpoints. Capturing both, the mind and the eye, the story follows a little boy that comes home from school, finds an apple on the
