Considering I have already read book 1 (Defender) and loved it, I was pleased to see the boxset for the three books available … and nabbed it to immerse myself in Avenger and Champion.

While there were a few instances when I thought it was a bit wordy, none of that prevented me reading on. The story is gripping in a way I cannot explain. Yes, so many of the elements present have been used elsewhere (elves, trolls, gods, realms, battles and so forth) and yet the flow of these tales keep me enterta

Well done!

Engaging characters with interesting battles and motivations for what they do in Sanctuary. A captivating storyline that kept me engaged through all three volumes. Fortin the Rock Giant is a hoot! Definitely worth a look for sword and sorcery fans.

I wish there were more books in this series. I was fascinated by the characters almost immediately and I am actively enjoying this read. I am very pleased!

I have only been leaving starred reviews recently and not taking the time to write an actual review. This story however I wanted to explain why I only gave it three stars. About two thirds of the way through the first book the story was progressing in such a generic way that it reminded me of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. So much so that I kept expecting a revelation that the characters in the story were actually being played by real-life modern people . The small b

Absolutely awesome!! I was not expecting the books to be so good! The author didn't make the time going from town to town long and drawn out which I always cringe at. He did keep you guessing about parts (no spoilers here) and I loved that there were actual guilds in the book. Of course, I have to read the rest in the series now!!

The Sanctuary Series

Oh yea, this is a mega series. It revolves around a young adventurer, Cyrus Davidon. Cyrus becomes the General of the Sanctuary forces and leads them to many victories.

Very good, highly recommended!

This is a different story than what I'm used to immersing myself in. The first hour or so was hard to really get into but after that, I read with a fervor.

Author, Robert J. Crane, has done a masterful job creating a world full of characters that leap off the page and leave you wanting more. The characters are well developed and each will remind you of someone you know.

Full of adventure and drama, The Sanctuary adventurers are a cut above other guilds due to their loyalty and honor and their ability to stand for the poor and helpless.

Crane has blended action, adventure, mystery, magic, s

Unfortunately I was unable to read to the end of the first book. I attribute it to the style of writing being like that of a D&D campaign re-formatted and revised into a novel. Perhaps if I was more familiar with the terminology and worlds of the rpg it was based off of I would have rather enjoyed it. As it was I felt as though from the first page I was being dropped off in the middle of a book and expected as a reader to already be familiar with the characters, their image, emotions, trials ...more

When I started reading book 1, I was thinking the characters shallow and puerile. It didn't take long, however, to have difficulty putting the book down. It's a Bildungsroman in its own way - showing the growing emotional maturity of Cyrus as he gains renown as a warrior. Of course, he falls deeply in love with a woman warrior-elf who's adept with her sword but in her fear of being emotionally betrayed adopts a scathing, hands-off manner with him. Overall, there are dragons, elves, trolls and dr ...more

I downloaded these free on Amazon.

I enjoyed the books, light and easy to read. However, the true test is if I'm willing to spend money to read the rest of the story (No, I'm not Paul Harvey!). At this point I'm not.

The story read like a D&D Campaign that a friendly DM developed. The hero is constantly being healed and the majority of characters Resurrected. How can you be a Bad Ass if there is no real risk of permanent harm?

Alric though, I might have to buy the books to see if my hunches ar

It grew on me

I was not too impressed when I started the first book. For me the story lacked description and I just could not properly get into it. There were also a couple too many fights for my taste. However, something kept me reading.

By the second book I was taken by the tragic love story of Cyrus (main character) and Vara and the author has started to paint a better picture of the world the story plays in.

By the third book I was taken. The story had taken such curious paths and grown that I

Science fantasy

An epic novel and I loves all there books in this bundle. The characters were just so alive and I was at my computer being a part of the adventures. The story drew me in and I just couldn't wait to see what would happen next and when the last word was read I wasn't ready for it to end. There are to many unanswered questions. I have to read the next book to find out what happens next. Why and how are Sanctuary destroyed? What happened to everyone?

Thank you!

I loved this series! It was excellent! Of course along the way I was hoping Cyrus was going to get some better armor but the fact it belonged to his Dad I can respect that he would hold onto it; but come on, how many times do you did before you start thinking, you know maybe it's time for in upgrade. Sanctuary needs a good blacksmith.
Awesome job Mr. Crane!

What a ride!

Normally I would take off a star due to the much needed technical editing, but these were good enough to keep all 5 stars.
If the Girl series is hero comics, then the Sanctuary series is role playing in text. Thank you from a grateful reader who doesn't like playing those games but loved the books.

The books were a good read. Excitement, violence, loyalty, love, monsters, fairy tale characters

What more could you want? The books were a good read. Excitement, violence, monsters, epic battles, loyalty, love. The problem was I wanted more, too much left to the imagination at the.end.

Gamers delight

I'm not a gamer but it was easy to picture this as fantasy gamely son's enjoyed. I didn't care for the the constant snarky repartee and the abundant sexual inuendoes either. Still it's a decent tale for fantasy readers.

Fantasy at its best

Brave crusaders fight their way into and out of war, collecting loot as they wander from battle to battle. However, romance, self sacrifice, and nobility flit in, around, and among the environment of violence.

Fun read, keeps you reading

Ended up loving these 3 books. All the characters are very interesting. It's like lord of the rings meets Harry potter in a sense as far as fantasy. Excellent and I look forward to reading more!

Mediocre and one-dimensional

The plot could have been okay with a better writer, but it was badly handled. The characters were one-dimensional, and their dialogue like teenagers. The magic system was poor and too powerful, the fight seems unconvincing and bland.

“Flames lit every surface in the caves and lava floes burned all around him, like some version of the Realm of Death he had heard tales of in his youth. There were flames leaping out of holes in the walls and floor like fiery stalagmites. Cyrus Davidon stood in the midst of it all, minding his steps very carefully, lest his black armor end up blacker still from an inadvertent scorching. The sweat rolled off his face as he surveyed the group around him. Over one hundred adventurers, all with common purpose. They had come to this place intending to slay a dragon. There was some nobility in that, Cyrus reflected, but it was diminished by the fact that the dragon was trapped in these depths and not a threat to anyone but those looking for it. Which meant that most of them were here for the dragon’s sizeable treasure hoard. “There’s nothing like fighting for your life with a small army of opportunists to watch your back, is there?” Cyrus murmured. “You’re not joking. It makes you wonder if there’s even one of this lot we can trust,” came the voice of Narstron a dwarf who had traveled with Cyrus for many seasons and had shared a great many adventures with him. “Trust is earned, not given. This group is so raw they’ll be dead before they even prove themselves,” came the voice on the other side of Narstron. Andren was an elf by nature and a healer by trade, a spell caster with the ability to bind wounds through magical means. “This lot has seen far too few seasons – and this is likely their last. Dragons aren’t to be trifled with.” He peered” 1 likes
