When Phoebe Irving moved from San Francisco to my English country village, we discovered how much we have in common. We also realized that her family's home, the Arnaud Manor, has a twisted history that goes back centuries. Though the bloodthirsty Madame Arnaud is finally gone, a trip to the palace of Versailles in France proves that trouble still haunts us. With our frien ...more

Lynn Carthage is quickly becoming one of the authors that I'm happy to recommend to everyone I know. Her ability to develop characters and come up with interesting and original story angles has me interested in seeing where she will go in the future.

With this book, I found that her writing had matured a lot from the first, and that her story went places that I couldn't predict. I liked the relationships between the characters and the feelings they expressed throughout the book.

The paranormal a

I received a copy of this through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I read and enjoyed the first book of this series, Haunted, last year. And I was invited by NetGalley to read and review book 2. I was excited to read more about Phoebe, Miles and Eleanor and Phoebe's family. I was really intrigued by the idea of them going to Versailles because I had been there 7 years ago and really loved it there. As Phoebe's family traversed around Paris, it was really interesting to hear some of the

Betrayed is the sequel to Haunted and continues the story of Phoebe, Miles and Eleanor as they continue to watch over Phoebe's little sister Tabby. This time the story is narrated by Miles and there's the added tension of a teen love triangle. If you enjoyed Haunted, you will definitely want to read Betrayed to see what happens when the family travels to Versailles to compare the royal quarters to the copy in which they live. Past an

After reviewing the first book in this series, I wanted to read the second book. I wasn’t dissapointed. This was a creepy ghost mystery, along with time travel, excellent settings (like Versailles!) and great characters. The author did a good job on the French history.

What can I say? It's brilliant.
Seriously, for anyone with a dark and morbid interest in the French Revolution with a timeslip element...and even having characters wandering the grounds of Versailles in the aftermath of the royal family's seizure, this is a great read. It's a nice way for readers to get some historically-accurate history, too. My favorite scene is when Miles and Phoebe across a guillotine in operation in the town square in Paris, based on the true-life events at the Place de la N

I didn't think it was as good as the first (it was a bit too silly throughout), though I'm still intrigued enough to read the final book. ...more

When Phoebe moved from San Francisco to the English country, Phoebe meets Miles.
Miles, Phoebe, and Eleanor follow Phoebe's family to Versailles. Arnaud Manor has a creepy and twisted history that goes back centuries ago. Phoebe and Miles are trying to figure out the Arnaud legacy. It appears that only Phoebe and Miles has a role in the legacy but what is it? Can they "end" the legacy? Only Phoebe and Miles discover they can time travel. Why can they time travel? Why can't Eleanor time travel? Sh

This is book 2 in The Arnaud Legacy series. I read the first book and had only given it 3 stars but it was good enough that I wanted to read the next book in the series when it came out so when I found it on Netgalley I requested it.

Betrayed is actually much better than the first book and it is the best young adult book I have read so far this year. The story is good enough to make me keep reading and I the story was different from any other books I have ever read.

I highly recommend this.

THE REVIEW

Why this book?

Since I read the first one I was invited by Netgalley to read this one

What I thought

I wasn't the biggest fan of the first one, I liked well enough but it wasn't rememberable. So it took me awhile to get into this book till things started to come back to me. Once it did I started to enjoy myself. The french history was very interesting and them going back in time was also a interesting aspect. This was better then

I enjoyed the first book of this series and read this second installment eagerly. The first book was super creepy, but this one drew me in with the mystery surrounding the prophecy--I really wanted to know how Phoebe, Miles, and Eleanor are all connected and so I read quickly, trying to hunt down all the clues. My favorite aspect of this novel, however, was the many details about Paris and Versailles during the French Revolution--fascinatingly terrifying stuff. I'm looking forward to learning ho ...more

After reading the first book in this series, Haunted, I couldn't wait to see what Lynn Carthage did next. Luscious descriptions of Versailles, the ominous threat of ancient evil, and an unusual and swoon-worthy budding romance make Betrayed every bit as satisfying as the first book of the Arnaud Legacy. All of the relationships are multi-layered and intriguing, and the special connection between sisters Phoebe and Tabby is especially charming. Looking forward to Avenged next year! ...more

I really liked the first one and this one was a major disappointment. I'm giving it a 3 for now because I want to believe it was better than my initial reaction. I'll reread it next year before the third installment and rate it lower if it is as bad as I thought. I'm hoping I just wasn't in the mood or something, even though I was really excited to download and buy this one and I rarely buy books... :/ ...more

I loved this one just as much as I loved the first one, it was frustrating though seeing the division between two of the characters and seeing how one behaved. I can't wait for the third book in the series and I can't believe I have to wait a whole year or more lol. I would recommend this series to anyone who not only like the paranormal but also likes historical things too. ...more
