I read the book that comes before this one, The dancing stone, years ago. The first few chapters were confusing as there were so many characters and complicated family relationships. The Scottish dialect is something else I found confusing in those first chapters. But, the characters came back to me like old friends and I remembered their backgrounds, I even got used to the Scottish way of speaking. This family saga was endearing, and was enhanced by the addition of the McCart family. I wonder if there's a follow up book as there seems to be so much more to be told.

A brilliant historical novel fast paced all the way through but the author got rid of a few major characters and then didn't follow up their fate through out the end of the book.
The ending was disappointing as i wanted to find out what happened to those characters and a lot of other characters situations were not wound up.
Could have been better.
Well worth reading though.

I really enjoyed reading this book, but was left very disappointed at the end. It really needs to be book 3
It was left wide open, not really coming to an end

I some how lost the review for this one, and deleted the wrong post ... still no mind, it wasn't that good anyway!

The Author has delivered much better works than this, really disappointing.
