I really can’t stress how important I think this book is. It is a companion guide/study guide to “Beautiful Girlhood”, a book written in the early 20th century for girls entering into young womanhood. The book is meant to be read by mothers and daughters together, and the study guide by the daughter so she can reallyyy learn its contents. The questions and essay topics in here are phenomenal for the age group it is intended for and I really think this is an amazing resource for mothers and daughters who want to be holy and virtuous women. There are 32 different topics discussed, ranging from blooming “like a rose” as you become a ladylike woman, to fostering a relationship with books and why that’s important, to navigating all types of relationships, to remaining pure of heart and why that is vital, to continuing to bond with your father and mother as you grow up and become a woman, to learning (and mastering) skills that are essential for being a good homemaker (no feminist propaganda in this book!), to preparing for your future marriage and considering consecrated life, etc etc. This is a very traditional study guide full of Scripture and beautiful quotes, and I think it appeals wonderfully to the femininity in all of us. What I especially loved was that this study guide was constantly providing questions that called for reflection and growing in virtue. Virtue was taught as a good and beautiful thing to be diligently devoted to, and noble character was portrayed as something of the utmost importance. I’m 22 years old and I loved this so much (and was given a lot to think about) that I bought “Beautiful Girlhood” and am excited to read that too! I would 100% read this with my daughters.
The book "Beautiful Girlhood " and companion guide are gems on my shelf! I went through this companion guide when I was still in my early teens (quite a few years back) and I believe it moulded my standards and character aspirations for the better. The book is encouraging, uplifting, and soul-searching while the companion guide is a great way to put the thoughts that each chapter invokes down on paper.
A must read for girls who are ready to question the "norm" of this world and what their standards should be in relation to it and how their relationship with others, their family, and God must be as daughters of God.
