Eh, mixed feelings there.
The most annoying aspect of this is the main protagonist herself. While I am not saying that this isn't a good read,  beacuse at some parts, it really is, this isn't really over the top amazing. I feel like the main protagonist just ruined everything. She annoyed the hell out of me. I was really intrigued by the synopsis, and I thought I'd be completely enamored by the story, beacuse really anything works for me that breaks the "alpha male - good girl" chain, but sadly, this didn't.

Sylvie is the type person who'd be really fun to hang out with, then you ask what's bothering me? Her inner voice. It was excruciatingly painful to be inside her head. Exhausting. First : she sounds immature. Second : she's a self centered prick. Third : ugh, this one is important to point, she often said "blah, blah, blah," and the things she were talking about actually felt "blah". I swear the multiple use of "blah" had me losing my mind. How will the readers manage to hold their interest when the main protagonist is just so uninterested in her own life, tell me. It's like she didn't value her own opinions.

Now, the good part. This book is hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing at some scenes, even though I was annoyed with Sylvie. So I'd recommend this to people who are looking for a laugh inducing read. It is definitely a laughing pill.

Light and funny read, but definitely with a heart.

Sylvie's love life was one hell of a roller coaster ride, happens to the best of us right? What was engaging about this book was there was this sense of lightness and fun in it, it was easy to fly through it. I bet one can finish this in one sitting. What I adored about this book is that Sylvie, our main protagonist, never gives up on finding love. She had a lot of set backs, what with the strings of men who was never the right fit, men who never quite love her the way she wanted to be loved, until she met someone who was just the perfect match. Losing the Plot in LA is something you would want to read on the beach or during a quick weekend getaway. You'll laugh with Sylvie and all the shenanigans, and possibly be able to relate to her predicaments in life and love more than you thought possible.

This book made me want to live in LA! Hahah it just felt like so much fun and carefree. Sylvie's life may have went off track but she was able to bounce back. Losing the Plot in LA was a good take on a life of a twenty something finding what's best for her, may it be an apartment, a boyfriend or the perfect job. There was this sense of satisfaction when the novel ended, that despite the shitty hands you were dealt with, things will come around and will always end up the way you had planned.

I think we are in need of a lot of this kind of novels, the reassuring ones, books that will make you feel good about life. I had a few issues though, there were a few unnecessary parts that the book can honestly do away. Also there were too many characters that I found it a little confusing who was who. There was also a point that the book becomes a little repetitive. But all things considered, I still enjoyed this one. The perfect book to snap you out of a depressing state.

Massive thank you to Sonia for sending me her book! More power to you!

I wanted to like this book, I really did. I just couldn’t. I usually don’t comment on the grammar or syntax of a book, but I cannot judge this book without mentioning it. This book uses way too informal of language including way too many uses of ellipses, onomatopoeias, slang, textspeak, acronyms, cliches, and idioms.

I felt like I was reading a really long, informal text from a gossipy friend who has no idea how to be a functioning adult in society. I also felt like I was cornered at a party and stuck in this really obnoxious conversation that I couldn’t leave. I’m sure that some people really love the casualness of this book, but I really couldn’t get over it enough to even begin to enjoy the book. [Any book that uses the expression, “blah, blah, blah” half a dozen times should not be considered literature].

The main character was very unlikeable—which usually doesn’t bother me—but this is the type of stereotypical California party girl that I have tried to avoid my whole life. She takes drugs, cheats on her boyfriend, gossips with friends, and acts very conceited.

Sylvie loves living in LA, hitting all the trendy clubs, and drinking margaritas while eating a her favorite Mexican joint El Coyote. I loved being in her head while she tries to juggle men, her puppy Trouble, and staying true to herself. Her love life doesn't seem to be heading in the right direction. Sometimes a girl has to just take a step back and reevaluate things before she can truly move on.
There are plenty of interesting, saucy characters in this relatively short book, and lots of animal love too!

Searching for a light funny book that you want to read after finishing a huge fantasy book?Well, this might be it.
Do not raise your expectations too high though. This book is simple, easy to read and funny. It's definitely funny, the laugh out loud kind of funny. It is so good that you have to read it in one sitting.
Sure, the female protagonist seemed to be a little irritating and annoying. But to be honest, she didn't really get on my nerves.
If you're in the mood for some light hearted reading, then i would totally recommend this book. You wont have to stop until you finished the book.Well, that's at least how i feel. This was a wonderful debut from the author!

I couldn't really relate to these characters, that's part of the reason it took me so long to push through this short book. Some of the informal of language was hard for me to get use to, but 'Losing The Plot In LA' by Sonia Farnsworth impressed me for being what it was. The seemingly black and white morale I found at first, soon turned into a more entertaining canyon of adventure, showing that not every stereotype is to be believed. Funny and biting with saucy characters, it does a good job of exploring modern ideals of identity, so in that way it's a great little read for its target market.

This was my first book by Sonia and I must say that I wasn't impressed.
No. One. Bit.
There are SO MANY things that clashed with me about this book that it was ridiculous.
There are an infinite amount of exclamation marks that the voice inside of my head that was reading this wouldn't stop yelling at me. It became obnoxious and incredibly unnecessary.
The main character is the exact definition of what a woman isn't. This book follows a girl, not a woman. She doesn't act her age, she expects to be treated like a queen when she uses everybody else whenever she needs them, she parties, and hops from guy to guy without even a ONE DAY break in between. (Plus more.) I am not a fan of girls that think their life is utterly depressing and meaningless just because a guy isn't in it, and that is exactly who the main character is. I disliked her so much that I hoped with all my being that she never got a happy ending. She didn't deserve it. And I didn't believe, for one second, that EVERY. SINGLE. GUY. was after her. That is just... no. She isn't hot stuff at all. She made the dumbest choices and I just wasn't impressed with any aspect of her character.
Also, the entire book was written as if it were a long text message to herself. It got repetitive and the dialogue sounded like it was between 10 year olds. Also, why an author would type a laugh ('hahahha') instead of telling me they laughed is beyond me. Like I said, just a long text message. It was one of the most irritating experiences in my life and it really bummed me out. I didn't care for any of the characters but the only reason I gave this 2 stars instead of a 1 star, was because the author managed to make me laugh uncontrollably AT the characters by the end of the story.

Sylvie's a super fun and trendy girl that is always up to go hang out with friends and have a good time. Her life consists of taking care of an adorable dog, scrambling to find new home and dealing with her runway boyfriend, Simon. Now matter how hard she tries to make their relationship work, he's always running away to Europe to work as a lighting technician for a touring band when things start to get serious. Now, Sylvie has to try and put her life back together before she Loses the Plot all together!
I really enjoyed this book! It's definitely worthy of being picked up and would be a great summer read! Sonia's writing style is super easy to go along with and you'll fly through Sylvie's story in a heartbeat! I read this book in two sitting while eating a bag Sour Patch Kids and drinking some iced tea along the way. This book definitely leans on the New Adult side, so I would suggest only mature readers to pick it up!
Overall, Losing the Plot in LA is a fun, easy-going, New Adult novel that is great to read by the pool, beach or even in your comfy bed (don't forget your favorite candy or drink though)!

This book perfectly fits its title. Idiomatically speaking, it was crazy. Sylvie was crazy. Crazy about her life, crazy about apartment hunting, about her dog, about her best friend Lou, crazy about boys. From the beginning till the end, Sylvie indeed led a crazy life.

Literally speaking though, from the start, I got lost. I lost the plot. The first few chapters, I had not idea what to expect, what the whole book was all about because it got lots of narrative, very, very detailed and lengthy ones at that. Maybe I was not just used to that kind of writing and wordings, like slang and capital screaming words, etc. There were a lot of "blah, blah, blahs", too! And then there were a lot of boys, too many to count on my fingers..

Satisfactorily speaking, it was a good book. On the second half of the story, the plot thickened, the characters became more animated and realistic, and I liked that Trouble (Sylvie's dog), was well-taken cared of.

An exciting fictional snapshot of our heroine Sylvie trying to find balance in love and relationships in the dark waters of the world of narcissism and crazy of Los Angeles. It was a great quick read for me...read it in a day as the writing flowed very well from page to page. From a male perspective it was insightful to see how the other half's attempt to figure out their journey of the heart!

ORIGINALLY POSTED AT martasbookshelf.blogspot.com :

I want to start this review with a massive thank you to the author, Sonia Farnsworth, for sending me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.

SUMMARY AND SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:

Sylvie is missing her boyfriend, cuddling with her dog and keeping up with her insane friends. That's her life at the moment. A New Year is approaching and though all she wants to do is get her mind off her messed up life, she might end up regretting going to that party. Or maybe that party is all she needed.

Tragically romantic and hilarious novel to have a great and intense time, is how I would describe this book.

I picked this book up because I wanted something not too long to read between exams and I was completely surprised by how wrong I was. Yes, it is a short and thin book, but... I swear it has the most intense 184 pages I've ever read. There is not a single scene where you can take a break and simply relax. No. The constant over-thinking and balancing of every thing the main character goes through could keep you awake for days. Not even exaggerating (I'm writing this completely exhausted after a day studying maths and reading this book).

I think the thing I enjoyed the most is that it's a pretty believable and realistic story. I was amazed by how understandable each character's POV was.

It's a very simple story but it's absolutely realistic, maybe even relatable. Every situation the characters are put through actually happens in real life and I think that's great because that way people can relate to the characters and the story as a whole.

It was absolutely funny. I had a lot of fun and found myself smiling and even laughing out loud more than once. The best (and worst) thing is that I laughed at things that were actually sad and surprising, maybe even nerve-wrecking and annoying, such as betrayals and heartbreaks, but it was pretty hilarious and I couldn't help it.

Sylvie's friends were pretty enjoyable and funny. I loved reading about them.

I really loved some quotes from the book, specially the ones about dogs and pets in general. I'm an animal lover (hopefully future vet) and I couldn't agree more with some thoughts the main character shared with us.

Every single character was believable and enjoyable. I am sure at least one of the characters reminds the reader to someone from their actual lives (maybe even themselves!). I really liked that.

I believed the relationships and betrayals, the friendships, the whole situation.

I want to give my opinion over a quite discussed topic, which is the writing style. Now, while some people might say it's immature, I must admit I really liked it.

Losing the plot in LA is a very contemporary and modern story and I think its writing style represented it very well. I don't think it could have been better written, not this story.

I'm not saying it was flawless, but it was on point and really well coordinated with not only the story but the characters' personalities too.

Feelings are absolutely well represented and any action and decision any character makes is extremely understandable. Maybe you don't agree with them but you totally understand why it's like that.

The character development is kind of mind-blowing. I read this book pretty fast so I didn't really notice at the time, but after reading THE END in the last page I was left thinking wow.

In a way, I could compare this to a Rainbow Rowell novel because both authors write about things that could happen in real life, and I think that's awesome.

I want to read more books by Sonia Farnsworth, which is cool because she is already writing her second novel.

Review first posted on my blog 'A Spoonful of Happy Endings': http://spoonfulofhappyendings.blogspo...

Sylvie lives in LA and there's no other place in the world she loves just as much. However, life is quite a whirlwind as Sylvie tries to do everything she wants to do, from partying with her friends, finding the perfect apartment, taking care of her dog Trouble, and the ongoing search for the man of her dreams. There's hardly any time left to breathe, but Sylvie is determined to get out of life what she wants from it, even if that means there will be a few struggles along the way...

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy ‘Losing the Plot in LA’ as much as I initially hoped I would. Sonia Farnsworth started with a promising storyline; nothing too original, but something suitable to the chick lit genre and something that could have gone in several different directions. While main character Sylvie was a bit all over the place, I could have gone along with her craziness but I just couldn’t warm to her, nor to any of the other characters. Not a lot of detail was given on the characters’ backgrounds and pasts, which made it difficult to really connect with them.

The book is written in a kind of informal style; this might be fine for some readers, but it’s not a style I personally particularly enjoyed. Don’t get me wrong; there were definitely parts of the book I liked and I think there’s definitely a base for an entertaining chick lit read there. Yet, there were too many things missing that make a read a good one for me. I really wanted to like ‘Losing the Plot in LA’, but I’m afraid I just didn’t. There might be readers out there who will enjoy this, but it sadly wasn’t for me.

Precise Rating: 3.5

I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange of an honest review.

There are a few negative reviews about this book, but I actually enjoyed it and it didn't bore me out. It was interesting and that is why I was able to go through the book easily.

The book is basically about Sylvie and her disastrous relationship. She is currently dating a guy named Simon who has serious commitment issues. I liked Sylvie, but she is flawed in a way I can't ignore. She is judgemental and hypocritic. She blamed Simon for something she had also done. Even though she did it in a different circumstance and in a lower level, it still doesn't justify her actions. She judged some girls being silly over British boys, but at the same time, she was an expert at putting up with Simon's BS. Other than that, Sylvie is pretty amazing. I could relate to her on some things, and she is really funny.

Dear Boys like Simon,
If you don't like to be in a relationship then DO NOT BE IN A RELATIONSHIP. Geez, it's disgusting doing mistakes again and again, then saying you don't know.. >_<

I like Dylan, who is another one of Sylvie's romantic interest. He is pretty cool, and I would totes want him as my friend. The only thing that I didn't like about him is that he kissed Sylvie, despite of knowing that she is in a relationship, like DUH!

If given an opportunity to read another one of Sonia Farnsworth's book, I would gladly take it because her writing is fun & interesting.
I just wished that the story took more time to build rather than being rushed, and that the characters (especially Sylvie) were a bit more matured.

Overall, the book is more of a YAY to me than nay, so I would say, pick the book up and read it!

**I received a copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review**

"Losing the Plot in LA" is one woman’s story of love and life in Los Angeles, California.

Sylvie is a sucker for love. She dates the ‘wrong’ blokes that make her miserable, as well as show her a good time.

Together with her dog, Trouble, Sylvie faces a reality, that not all men are cut out for relationships, and those that are, well, they just don’t ‘do it’ for her!

I’ve never been a fan of books full of narrative (as I’ve said in previous reviews), but this one felt different. The story is told by one person all the way through, Sylvie, and feels very much like you’re her therapist, and she’s telling you all about the highs and lows in LA, and in her life.

Sylvie comes across as a strong, independent woman, that knows what she wants in life. That is until the man of the moment appears, flashing those puppy dog eyes, then she turns to putty in his hand, no matter how he treats her.

I like that Sylvie, although living in the fast lane and incredibly beautiful, isn't perfect. She’s clumsy, silly, comedic and outright daft at times. Her fun personality is truly infectious.

The book makes you feel very much at ease, even though you feel that you are looking into someone else’s life. I laughed out loud at moments, cringed at others, and quite often just wanted to tell her to wake up and face the facts, that the men in her life are no good for her.

A brilliant book for a début novelist that reminds me of that Cyndi Lauper song – ‘Girls just Want to have Fun’.

I ordered this book upon a friends recommendation and, I have to admit, I had no idea what a fun ride I was about to embark upon. Growing up in LA I fell upon a familiar landscape as Sylvie's dating exploits unfolded. I felt like I could have been a part of the cast of characters who circulated in and around her tales of trying to get her life to feel right.

At first I wasn't sure about how interested I could stay with the female point of view, but that changed pretty quickly as Sylvie's struggles became pretty familiar to me when she realized it was up her to make the changes necessary to stop repeating her undesirable patterns. It's so easy to lay the blame everywhere but upon ourselves while we spin in circles. For many, they'd rather be miserable in familiar territory than face their fears about unexplored ways out. Sonia found a way to reveal her many viewpoints on this during Sylvie's trials and tribulations, and eventual epiphany, without ever getting preachy about it.

All in all, I really enjoyed the story immensely and the writing felt very open, honest and direct.

If your looking for a book to read on a plane or on beach, this is it.

Review : Losing The Plot In LA is a chick lit genre book. I really enjoyed myself reading it!

It was a fun and enjoyable read. Besides that, the book was really thin. Therefore, readers would manage to finish reading in a short period.

The book concentrated on the main characters life which is, Sylvie. But, mostly the book concentrated in her love life, which was an exciting and fun journey. In my opinion, women readers would really adore Sylvie. Because, she was a beautiful, fun and funny main character to read and imagine!

Moreover, there was so many scenes in the book that made me laugh and giggle a lot!

However, I think some people wouldn’t enjoy this book. Because, it concentrated too much on Sylvie’s relationship and social life. The book didn’t evolve it’s world as a whole.

Overall, if you would want a fast, fun and enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book to you!

Sincerely,

Natasha   (TheNatashaReads)

* I received this book in an exchange for an honest review.

A light read that is full of shenanigans between Sylvie and the men in her life. As you read this book, you will experience life, living in LA and Sylvie constantly losing the plot to men and life, in general.

I think what the author, Sophie is trying to convey is that dealing with men is a risky business. They're usually covered up with their ego and think that the world resolves around them. And we, ladies have to look out for ourselves because there will be a time in our lives that will make us feel vulnerable and hopeless.

All in all, it's a very light read (as I said before). It's the perfect read during the holidays and especially now that we're in the brink of New Years.

I won this book from goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

When I was in middle school I kept a very detailed journal of my life, what I did, ate, and who I was crushing on. These journals have been a source of embarrassment to me ever since. However, reading this book reminded me of reading my those journals. Basically Sylvie is at the same mentality level as I was during those awkward middle school years but has the added bonus of party drugs and alcohol to compound her mistakes and immaturity.

The book was fun, but it just never drew me in, mainly because I couldn't identify with any of the characters as functioning adults.

First, full disclosure, this is from a guy’s perspective. However, this came recommended to me, so thought I would pick it up. Not going to lie, I loved it!

This is a brilliant gem of a read! Well written, it is an engrossing romp through a twenty-something making her way through the ups and downs of dating in L.A. I love the subtle cultural references, especially if LA and Orange County are points of reference for you!

You will love reading this, and you won’t believe how it ends. Love it!

Grab it and join the fun in ‘Losing the Plot in LA.’

A fast paced fun story.

Sylvie is living her life in LA and having a ball. From her dating experiences, to fun friends and nights out on the town, I couldn't put the book down. It had me reminiscing about the past when I was in my 20s when I was boy crazy and didn't think of anything except where the next great party would be.

If you have a little extra time on your hands and want a quick book to read, pick the one up. There is nothing deep in it, just pure fun. It was like peeking into someone’s private life.
