I really liked this book, contrary to what you might think as you see my star rating. It has lots of fighting and mystery and a dystopian feel which I love. There was just one big sticking point for me.

I went straight from reading Poisoned Iris to reading this book. I literally jotted down a few notes for my review after finishing it and picked up this book. So, I had to read a few chapters to transition from Irisya's world to Wendy's.

Fun tidbit: When the author describes the marketplace, it reminded me of the same kind of common area described in Divergent.

This book was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I really can't pick out one thing that I didn't like about it. It was very well written and origin I went straight from reading Poisoned Iris to reading this book. I literally jotted down a few notes for my review after finishing it and picked up this book. So, I had to read a few chapters to transition from Irisya's world to Wendy's.

This book was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I really can't pick out one thing that I didn't like about it. It was very well written and original and had a great story.

I LOVED Wendy! She is super-strong and super-smart, and even when she tries not to let emotions and human connections influence her actions, she shows her humanity.

I was SO EXCITED when I got to the end of this book and there was a note, saying that if I signed up for the author's newsletter, I could download the next book in the series for free! Needless to say, I immediately downloaded and started reading Severed Ties . However, at that point, it was already almost 3am (yes, I stayed up that late to finish this book), and even though I did not have to work the next day, I had tons of homework to do and needed to get some sleep. I do admit trying pretty hard to talk myself out of going to bed so that I could continue reading (duh!).

I must also point out that this book does not have much of a romantic aspect, which is refreshing, and I don't think the author could have successfully thrown in either the clichè love triangle or created the super intense crush/romantic interest with an existing character, without taking away from Wendy's story and character. Thank you, Jo Schneider!

I think the author did a great job with Wendy's character! She is strong and independent and is a badass that can do just about anything, yet is constantly underestimated.

I can't (and won't) wait to see what happens next with Wendy and her new friends!

Right now, I am about 3/4 way through the next book in the Jagged Scars series, Severed Ties, so stay tuned for my review next week! Expect reviews of the next books in the series soon!

At A Glance
I really, really loved this story.
The Good
I am still a little shocked by how much I loved Fractured Memories. I have put dystopian/post-apocalyptic reads on the back burner for a while because they just weren't catching my attention anymore. This book reignited my fire for the genres. I was glued to every single page of this book. Seriously, the action was great, the Skinnies were freaking creepy, and the characters really made me feel for them.

So, the Skinnies are like zo At A Glance
I really, really loved this story.
The Good
I am still a little shocked by how much I loved Fractured Memories. I have put dystopian/post-apocalyptic reads on the back burner for a while because they just weren't catching my attention anymore. This book reignited my fire for the genres. I was glued to every single page of this book. Seriously, the action was great, the Skinnies were freaking creepy, and the characters really made me feel for them.

So, the Skinnies are like zombies but they are alive and have a sickness that makes them crazy for raw meat. I loved the twist on kinda/sorta zombies. It really worked and I believed it. Wendy was the star of the show though. She was majorly kickass in every way. She has great control of her emotions, she could kick 5 mens' butts no problem, and she is all about the revenge. Revenge for the people who let in Skinnies to kill all her people. Bitches with revenge in their hearts are so fucking scary. You know I'm right.

There are a lot of side characters and I loved them all, even the jackholes who tried to mess with my girl. They got theirs though. The plot came around full circle and the ending was intense. There is still some mystery about who the hell the Primate is. All I am going to say about him is that he is good at what he does. *coughs, crazy fucking cults, coughs* Anyway, Fractured Memories hit every point on my reading needs.
The Bad
There are some small things I could say here but they are so small I am just not going to mention them. I would be nit-picking and this book doesn't deserve it. Okay, one thing: the writing could have been a little better.
The Snuggly
There is some interest shown by Wendy and some of the boys but there is no romance in this book. It wouldn't fit in anyway.
Final Thoughts
READ THIS BOOK! I don't know, maybe you won't like it as much as me, but I can only go by my feelings and I feel like I love the shit out of this book. Highly recommended.

Quotes
Rage welled up inside her--more than she thought possible. Cold determination rose, pushing her protesting muscles to go faster. Harder. The Skinnies would not kill these children. She wouldn't let them. Never again would a Skinny kill a child if she could help it.

The fighters shouted at the Skinnies to stop. The Skinnies ignored them and focused on the kids. Neither party noticed Wendy darting in between obstacles.

Adrenaline coursed through Wendy's veins, and she used every ounce of it to jump off of a box, fly through the air and hit the Skinny who held the little girl as hard as she could in the back of the neck with the make-shift club.

The Skinny crumbled to the ground, burying the little girl beneath him. Good, she'd be safe there.

It reminded me a lot of a recent series I just finished, The Scourge, but this one was so much more darker, gruesome and so much more epic!

Wendy is a 16 year old girl, but she isn't ordinary, neither has she lived an ordinary life. Her life is tough and hard to survive. In order to survive, she has to learn to fight and to defend herself from the Skinnies. Zombie-like creatures that are diseased and kill for raw meat.

So, Wendy needs to be in perfect shape to fight them and help protect her compound from these Skinnies, but on the day of her birthday, the Skinniest managed to get in and she is the only survivor. Rescued by a strange group she finds herself amongst strangers, but the more she uncovers about these people, the more she suspects they were the ones who sent the Skinnies and killed her family.
Angered and repulsed, she sets herself a task to infiltrate and find out why they did it and destroy all those responsible.

But the more time she spends with her new group, training with them, fighting with them, learning new skills, talking and laughing with them, she begins to feel less a stranger and more welcomed than she has ever felt before in her life.
But she can't afford to feel care for the same people who murdered who own people.

Wendy faces many dangers, but she uncovers many secrets along the way, secrets that can get her killed by those she trusted the most. It seems that by the end, she'll know for sure who is her real friends and who is her real enemy. All is not as it seems.

I loved this story, it was so fast paced and epic till the end! I never got bored during any instant, i especially loved the training she went through and her battle both on the training square and on the field.
Wendy isn't a quiet girl, she is small but tough, reserved but observant and she is smart. She is a strong, fiesty heroine and those are my favourite ones!
Cannot wait to see more of some strong female fights!

I really enjoyed this book. It had lots of fighting and mystery in it, and a new for me perspective on the whole apocalypes/dystopian thing. This book really pulled me in from the beginning. The characters were all great and the Skinnies creeped me out.

100% would recommend reading this book if you enjoy post-apocalyptic with tons of action and spunk. The plot and writing are both very good. I got immersed in the story and couldn't put the book down. This book is very fast-paced, not a dull moment. I ended up falling in love with not only the main character but also her friends because of how well the author developed the characters. Full disclosure, I am friends with the author's husband. Usually, when someone invites me to read their book, I dread flipping through novice writings, but it didn't feel like the other ones that I have read. Jo Schneider is a professional writer and it shows.

I really liked this story. Wendy lives in a compound with her family and others in a world after the Starvation. It affected most people and turned them into what Wendy calls Skinnies. They can only survive by eating flesh. Her compound is attacked on her 16th birthday and when she wakes, she is somewhere else with strangers, and no memory of the attack. Are these new people her saviors or are they the ones who killed her loved ones?

The fast paced action made for a quick, fun read. Loved how the main protagonist is a killer fighter dealing with PTSD. Jeff announced that all the teens lost the obstacle course but never explained why. The fighting was a little intense but nothing graphic.

Fractured Memories is an action packed, fast paced, dystopia. It's a world where a disease called 'starvation' (because once you eat 'bad food', you starve no matter what you eat) kills half the world's population and turns many into 'Skinnies' (they're basically zombies. They eat raw meat) until they too die. It's where said Skinnies attack Wendy's compound on the day of her 16th birthday and kill everyone she knows. At least, she thinks so. She can hardly remember the event after being rescued by people of another compound lead by a man named Mike. And from there begins Wendy's plan for revenge.

The Skinnies were downright creepy. At one point, they talk and it gets clearer that they're not in their minds. Who would be after suffering such a disease? But either way, they're much like a pack of rabid wolves, lurking in packs and attacking any food source they come across. Even if that food source stands on two legs and a had beating heart.

Which brings me to say that the action? Yeah, it was fantastic! Just from reading I've learned so much more about fighting. Mainly because the main character, Wendy, is best at fighting (since she's had to fight practically every day of her life by either training or protecting her compound when she was old enough) and so her observations and new techniques are something we really pay attention too. Mainly because we're rooting for her the entire time. We also get to see different styles of fighting though, during training and during the fights Wendy takes part in. She's skilled in thinking quickly and finding a way out of a bad situation. She can flip men thrive her size! She's strong but weak as well, breaking down at times and having all those flashes mess with her sanity. That's what makes it easier to connect with her and envoy the story.

Wendy is actually a really great character. She's practically overcome by the need for revenge when she realizes she's the only survivor. She wants whoever did this to her to pay and she ready has an idea of who did it. They won't be getting away this time. She has a fantastic hold over her emotions and control, and she can easily take five men down. How badass is that?! She's also really strong both mentally and physically. She's terrifying when angry though. Which helps her in the long run because no one sees her coming when she's angry. They hardly see her coming when she's in control.

I also really liked the other characters. Especially the group Wendy grew to call her friends. Cal, Kev, and Arie are probably the best group of friends for Wendy to be a part of. They're loyal, they care, and they even followed her in the end because they wanted to make sure she was all right. They're good for her and have helped her a lot. I'm definitely excited for the next book just to see them all together again!

Overall, I really enjoyed Fractured Memories and I definitely recommend this to you lovers of action, dystopia and post apocalyptic books. ...more
