Falling

A good man falls seven times,
But I’m far from a good man.

I’ve got my own set of rules,
And I never stray from them.
I live by a simple set of guidelines and they’re easy to follow.

But when Chelsea Robinson walked into my garage,
The rules went out the door.
Suddenly, I was falling.
No, that's not right.
It was more like a crash-landing,
Because I sure as hell couldn't stop myself.
And now, I’m still falling,
Uncontrollably.
For a woman I shouldn’t even want.
But when love steps in, you have no option but to break your own rules.

allyn lesley writes real stories about real people.

As a teen, allyn lost herself in the pages of some of Romance’s heavyweights, trusting that a happy ever after was just around the corner. In allyn’s own writing journey, as in life, she’s learned that people don’t always experience recovery and restoration after a fall. Her stories speak to the gritty side of life where the right choice isn't always easily identified and happiness not quickly gained.

This book did my f-ing head in...

So I knew going in that this book was going to be outside my comfort zone. Surprisingly it wasn't the fact that the hero has sex with multiple women (while the heroine remained celibate) after they meet that was my issue. (and maybe that should tell you something about how little I connected with these characters as a couple.) It was the fact that this wasn't a "love story" to me AT ALL.

description

Two years after their ONS (that takes place at the beginning of the book) and 95% into the book the hero & heroine FINALLY get together. If I had to guess, the total amount of pages devoted to them actually being in the same place at the same time would be less than 50.

We get pages and pages on the hero's backstory, but next to NOTHING about the heroine. The hero's reaction to EVERYTHING is going off to bang some other woman. He never tries TALKING to the heroine. He was a jerk and never really stopped being one, to be honest. I STILL have no idea why the heroine avoided him. She says "he only wanted sex" but considering they never SPOKE more than 20 words to each other at any given time, I am not really sure how she drew that conclusion.

On a positive note, the writing was fine. The author does have a lot of potential. I would definitely give this author another go.

Not much else to say, unfortunately, this was a miss for me. It's awfully hard for me as a reader to connect with a couple when they are NEVER a couple for the entirety of the book. I'm giving myself two thumbs up for actually slogging through this to finish it!

Falling by Allyn Lesley was an interesting read.

There were A LOT different themes going on in this book. Infidelity, a little cradle-robbing, drugs, death, babies...you name it, it was in this book. I had a very hard time connecting with the main characters, Chelsea and Dyllan but I did get caught up in some of the detailed tellings of Dyllan's personal struggles and demons.

At 17, initially, Chelsea is naïve, immature and very bland. We know nothing about her. We know she goes to university, her age, what she looks like (sort of) and her parents names, but that's about it. We know more about Dyllan, because FALLING is told from his POV. There was much more character depth for him, and most of the time I empathized with him and the rough life he lived through. He's believable and tangible, real and raw.

The time lines we went through were jumpy and miss-mashed. However, there was a lot of growth involved in Dyllan's character and it made up for the lack of depth the overall story.

I have to say I did really love Dyllan's adopted family. What lovey hearts and souls they all had. The bond his mother, father and especially his two brothers had with Dyllan was quite lovely and genuine.

I'm giving this a 3 because I believe there is a good story here. Some of the puzzle pieces are missing, but I liked some of the key characters and you can tell a solid effort was made.

I'm not usually a fan of alpha male love interests. Usually I find that I don't feel I know enough about the character to understand *why* he is the way that he is, which is annoying.

Happily that is NOT the case with Allyn Lesley's Falling. We get enough of Dylan's background to discern what makes him--initially--such a jerk. And then as we read, we learn he isn't really the jerk we thought he was. As we peel away the layers, he begins to change, grow and mature as a man and it's all because of love. Because of their age difference (Dylan is twenty-four, Chelsea is just turning eighteen) they want different things. They keep being thrown together because of their families and various circumstances, which Dylan initially hates. But it soon becomes obvious that Chelsea is the girl who chips away at the wall Dylan has built around himself (yes, that Alpha Male Wall). :)

One of the things I enjoyed about this story was that I found the characters to be very believable. They make mistakes, they screw up, they grow. This made me feel, as a reader, like I was always in their corner because I could empathise with them. And that is something I always appreciate.
Both characters have an interesting arc and the supporting characters (all the family members and mutual friends) add another rich layer to this story. I have the feeling there will be more to Dylan and Chelsea's story.

A solid love story! My rating? 4 stars! A Recommended Read.

Another great book by Allyn. I love her ability to create characters who are flawed, and real.

I loved the journey of Dyllan. He was handed a tough life from the start. It was great to see him grow and learn to accept his past, to learn to love himself, and understand he has the power to change his life. All because of Chelsea. She's smart, sassy, and flip turns his life when he least expects it.

Can Dyllan love her like she deserves? Such a great, unhurried love story.

Allyn Lesley delivered to us a really good read with Falling. We are gifted with the story of Dyllan and Chelsea. Dyllan had a very hard life until he was brought into the Sterling clan. He didn't really know what family was until then. He had love from MeMaw, but he didn't really have family. Because of that, he was jaded in his views on love and women. His brothers JC and EC didn't really have that problem. Through his brother, JC, Dyllan meets Chelsea and his world changes. There is something about Chelsea that is different than every other woman. However, life, assumptions, and bad behavior may just keep these two obvious soul mates apart.

I really enjoyed this book. It tells a realistic story of longing, love, and relationship screw ups. Communication is the key people. You waste a lot of valuable time without it! The family dynamic in the Sterling household is something that a lot of real life people should strive to achieve. I loved every character in this book except Caren. Dyllan was such a broken, yet strong man. Chelsea gave us a vulnerable character that you couldn't help but love. The epilogue wrapped up the book so well it made my heart swell. A really good read.

✯✯4 Forever Stars!!!✯✯

Dylan's life did not start off perfect or great. I mean not even close. The only two women in his life Jess(his mom) and MeMaw(the closest thing to a gma)both left him. From different reasons but still. Bc of them Dylan won't go near brunettes. Not until he was 24 and his life changed. The steady ground he stood on got pulled out from below him.

Dylan got adopted when he was 16yrs old. The Sterlings... Chuck, Ma and his older twin bro's JC and EC. He definitely didn't make it easy at the beginning. But, once he realized they were his family they were super close. Their family motto that all 3 boys have tattooed on all them is Family is Forever .

When JC comes into the shop with two sisters following him, Dylan knew he was in trouble. Chelsea and Emma followed his brother to where Dylan was under the hood of the car he was working on. When he saw Chelsea he'd never seen a woman so beautiful in his life. When he finds out she's leaving for college in two weeks, he plans on getting to know her.

It's odd for Dylan to feel the way he does about Chelsea. He's set up certain rules for himself so he won't get hurt by another woman again in his life. With Chelsea leaving the next day he ends up breaking all his own rules with her. Hoping she'd be worth it. Until he wakes up the next morning and Chelsea has dipped out without a word except a sticky note with the words "Thank You" on it.

The next few years weren't easy for Dylan. His brother JC & Emma are getting married. Dylan will have no choice but to see Chelsea. They have such an intense hot chemistry. A blind person can see it. Chelsea is the only woman to ever have Dylan so tongue/heart tied up into knots.

Unfortunately for Dylan and Chelsea all the times they were forced to spend time together. It didn't matter if it was good or bad they always ended up next to each other. But, every time they thought it could be their time something came in between them.

I absolutely loved this story! Dylan made me cry multiple times. I was glad that nobody was around when my eyes started leaking. What he didn't go thru in his childhood and even in his adulthood. Dylan deserved everything that he earned in life. I understood why he thought, acted and did what he did. I just wished he would've pulled his head out of his ass sooner then he did.

I adored Chelsea as well. I get why she was/did what she did. She met Dylan two weeks before she turned 18. Chelsea was young and at that age you never seem to do thing right. We've all been there and done that. If you're shaking your head no then you're lying to yourself lol.

I loved them and their families. This was a fantastic read. I wish I could get more from them. Maybe Allyn will give EC a book and we can get more from this family.

Dyllan was served with a dish called Life!!

He was a womanizer, had chicks left and right.
Then walks in Chelsea, a young woman who is about to embark on her life's journey called college!!

Dyllan can't get Chelsea out his mind, that is all he thinks about. How she would taste, how she smells. When Dyllan and Chelsea do finally hook up, it was magical. However the day after wasn't quit so! Nope, Dyllan woke up alone. Makes you wonder what Chelsea was thinking.

Dyllan has a few demons that he tries to fight. While ignoring his wants of Chelsea, he hooks up with other girls to get his sex fix.
Finding out Dyllan's story is sad. Breaks your heart listening to it. Chelsea her life was some what easier than Dyllan's.
God put Dyllan in the right place at the right time. In doing so he found his Ma, Chuck and his twin brothers. However it took him forever to realize he was their family.

Dyllan finally got his ah-ha moment when he was in church. It seemed like right when his life was going OK, he was hit with one bad thing after another. He asked for help, and he received it.

I wonder now if Dyllan and Chelsea are going to get married and have kids of their own.
One thing I didn't really like was that Dyllan was 24yr old I believe and when he met Chelsea she was 17. Before they became intimate she was 18. I know age is just a number but really, to me when she is so young and just starting out her life on her own. IDK that's just me.
I liked the book.

Dylan has had a very rough life. So bad, that he didn't speak for years. Everyone thought that made him bad, or dumb. He had two women in his life, his mom, Jess, and his Memaw, who was a neighbor that took him in when he saw Jess wasn't caring for him properly. When both women left him in different ways, he went into a group home and never spoke again. The day his teacher saw something special in him, and took him home to be part of her family, he was sixteen years old. Who finally gets a home at that age? It took him a long time to open up and start speaking again, but he had the love and patience of his new parents and twin brothers, who were just a little older. He loves to "date", it'll just never be with a brunette. Brunettes leave you, they can't be trusted. So when his brother JC walks into the shop followed by two sisters, he can't figure out why he can't take his eyes off Chelsea.
My heart broke for Dylan and the things he endured as a child. It was obvious he had no idea how to express himself positively and admit his feelings. It was easier to push people away then to have them leave you. There couldn't have been two more opposite people than Dylan and Chelsea. Maybe that's what made them perfect for each other. Little do they realize, they'll be thrown in each others paths often since her sister Emma is marrying JC.
Chelsea was an amazing girl. Sweet, caring, and completely head over heals for Dylan. It was such a rough road in the beginning, but I admired how she handled everything. Not many would have her strength and understanding. Most would have given up on him a long time ago. So many mistakes are made and at times we wonder if love and forgiveness will ever be enough.
Follow these two through their journey and you won't be disappointed. I loved the ups and downs and the drama of a one night stand that would never go away. I was riveted and on the edge just waiting to see what would happen next. Allyn writes a beautiful love story with redemption for our hero.

Dyllan wasn't happy when his brother JC for bringing a car that the shop doesn't work on. Dyllan offered to be the chaffer to Emma to go see Chelsea. When they get to the college he wasn't happy to see another man touching her. When he got back, he had to go to his parents house and was surprised along with his brothers JC and EC when their father tells them that he is going to be retiring from the business. When he was told that he was going to run the business he didn't think that he deserved it.

Dyllan had a hard life. He likes to draw and fix cars. He can't get Chelsea out of his head, EC and JC's younger brother. Chelsea is a college student, cant stop thinking about Dyllan. Emma's sister. JC "Jackson", Dyllan's older brother by a year. EC's twin brother. Emma's boyfriend. EC "Ellwood", Dyllan's older brother, JC's twin. Chuck's namesake. Chuck is Dyllan, EC and JC's father, started Sterling's Auto Center. He is retiring, married to Anna. Anna is married to Chuck, wants to see all of her kids happy. Emma is JC's girlfriend, Chelsea's sister.

This is my first book by Allyn Lesley and I can honestly say that this book will not be my last. This book is very well written and the characters are very well developed. I loved how well I felt connected to the characters. I found this book very hard for me to put down.

From the first page, I knew I was going to love Dyllan. Usually I get frustrated at the alpha male love story, but I just knew this one was different. He had a horrible childhood, so you can sympathize with him and the inner demons. He was still a great guy and fell so hard for Chelsea.

Chelsea is a smart, sarcastic, and hilarious girl. I was rooting for her to get the guy! I loved her friendship with Emma, they are the perfect best friends.

The unfolding of their romance is slow, calculating, and suspenseful. None of which you usually get. It was wonderfully awesome! The issues they faced only gave their relationship more depth and love.

I give it 5 stars!

Falling was my first read by this author, and I was pleasantly surprised after hating the hero from page one. One page and I was ready to write him off as a complete a$$. I loved the POV in this one, and it kept me going. I was glad it did because I really enjoyed it. Dyllan is alpha male to the max, a complete d-bag and a womanizer. The guy even admits to all of this. Until Chelsea walks into his garage. Then the guy is falling. Chelsea slowly peels away the layers on Dyllan, revealing why he is such a hardened jerk, and the reader gets a glimpse of the good guy under all the jerk behavior. His whole life is one abandonment after another, so you almost feel for him, and you definitely forgive his behavior.
I really enjoyed this book, the point of view being Dyllan's caught my interest immediately, and the story held me in. Some parts were a little dark for my taste, but the characters kept me going, and kept me invested. I loved watching Chelsea get to the man underneath all of Dyllan's complicated layers. A solid four stars here and i'll definitely be reading more of Allyn Lesley's books

Falling by Allyn Lesley was a first time read from a new-to-me author. I found the book well written, the pacing was good and it kept my interest throughout with some pretty hot scenes....but I have to say, Dyllan was a complete and TOTAL *ss, not very likeable AT ALL, but as the story progressed I found myself slowly coming around and by the end, I was almost as much in love with him as Chelsea!

Dyllan starts off being a total Alpha male sl*t, taking what he wants from every woman stupid enough to give in to him....until that fateful day his brother JC walks into their family's garage with the woman that will completely change his life! It takes a while for Chelsea (who is only a baby herself at 18 years old) to penetrate the life-long walls that Dyllan has built to protect his heart and through many misunderstandings, fights, hurt feelings and a few unforgettable encounters, they BOTH grow up and come together in an explosive circumstance that had my heart stuttering and falling apart!

I would so recommend anyone to read this awesome book, and I will definitely read more from Allyn Lesley

Dyllan, JC, & EC are brothers and are mechanics that own their own garage. JC & EC are twins and Dyllan was adopted by their mom. Dylan knew his mom, but she wasn't a good mom and Dylan wound up in the foster care system. His childhood wasn't the greatest, to say the least. Maybe that's why he's such an a** as an adult? Who knows! He's definitely a hit it and forget it kinda guy. That is until Emma and her sister Chels walk into his garage. Chels peaks his interest and he spends the night with her and she leaves..end of story, right? Nope he spends years going after her. Will they find love and happiness in the end?

3.5 stars for me on this one. Although, I did enjoy the story. I felt like I had absolutely no connection with the characters. Dyllan spent the whole book, basically chasing after Chels and she kept refusing him or they beat around the bush about what they both wanted. Just an okay read for me. Sorry!

At first I really thought Dyllan was a d-bag, a-hole, manwh*re - & even he would admit to that! - but as you learned his story and his way, you can't help but feel for him. The story is told completely from his POV which is refreshing. I had a mix of emotions ranging from wanting to punch him, then hug him, then slap him like Cher did in Moonstruck and tell him to "snap out of it!!" But, actually, I wanted to do the same to Chelsea as well!

I really did like this book but I couldn't give it a full 4 stars because some parts got a little too dark for me. There isn't much I can say without it becoming a spoiler... I would rate this 3.5 and would most likely recommend it to a friend - but with a bit of a warning...

I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, pain, anger, secrets, and heartbreak.

This is Chelsea and Dyllan’s story. Dyllan has his own rules about woman. Meeting Chelsea changes all his rules but will misunderstanding and assumptions keep this couple from a relationship? Dyllan is jaded and that makes for a harder time of believing in a forever. Can Chelsea get him to believe in her? Can these two people that belong together really get their act together and finally admit the love they have for each other?

I loved these characters and also the side characters. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

Falling: A Love Story is a sort of coming of age tale. Even though Dyllan is an adult, he's had a rough life and a hard past. The book is told from Dyllan's POV and can be read as a standalone.
I enjoyed this book, but there were times I would get frustrated with his actions. He's an alpha male with no control. But he's got his family. And they are everything to him.
The writing is great and the story flowed well.

Falling: a love story by Allyn Lesley
“Out of the ashes love story, 4 stars”

Sometimes we all need a love story that isn’t simple, cut and dry, one that will give us all hope that the one with a hard life will find peace and love. In Falling you definitely get that kind or story. There were times I was yelling for Dyllan to get his act together, yelling at Allyn to stop messing with Dyllan and Chesley and let them be happy.
Dyllan was a foster kid until he was 17. When suddenly he’s scooped up and he has parents and brothers. He always felt like it wasn’t real and he didnt deserve them. Which I know a lot of kids who grew up in the system feel. When he meets Chels his world shifts and he isn’t ready for it. Its not that he doesnt necessarily believe he deserves love he just doesn't want to be left again like all the others who have loved and left him in his life time.
Then there is Chels, and let me tell you thay girl deserves an award for patiences when it comes to waiting for Dyllan to get it all together. Shes the sweet good girl to his bad boy, they balance each other out flawlessly. Over time they go from lovers, to friends, back to lovers.
Dyllan and Chelsea's chemistry is smoking. There were times I felt like I was intruding on a private moment in real life. When you toss in the secondary characters it really brings the whole story to life. Dyllan's family is the bomb, if the book didnt state up front he was adopted you’d never know.
Here are a few quotes from Falling that I enjoyed;
“Like ask you to be mine, the request you never gave me a chance to say, because you slipped from my bed like a thief in the night.”
“I want Chels so bad I can taste her, even when she’s on a f*cking island thousands of miles away. I want her so bad that I wish I could bottle up her scent, so when I’m missing her, which is every-dam*-time she’s not near me, I could sniff her smell as a consolation. Hell, I’ll take her anyway she comes to me. Like being locked into the motherf*cking friendzone.”
“I want to wake up each morning to your gorgeous eyes, and go to bed dreaming of them. I want to fight, make up, love, laugh, cry, mourn. I want the exciting and the boring with you, Chels. I want it all with you.”
