I received this book for free for joining the author's mailing list. Thanks.
I could understand why this book was banned. But I've read far worst (And those are still available for purchase) This is my first time reading anything like this. But I'm an open-minded person and was curious (even if I don't agree with the taboo theme of book)
Very well written short! And like another reviewer said. I hella laughed at ending. Awesome frickin' ending! Nothing like some good old "Karma!" Ekkkkk! ;)
I'm really happy that I gave this author another chance! I'm not sure if my tastes have changed or if this book was just more to my liking than the other two works of his I've read, but this was a lot of (fucked up) fun and I'm looking forward to reading something else by Iain Rob Wright.
The only reason that I'm even considering giving this book 2 stars is because I like the fact that it gives off the whole what you do unto other's (in this case animals, mainly horses) will come back on you. I also like the whole story line and idea of this short book. When I first started reading this book I was like oh hell naw, this is some sick and twisted 💩 a man having sex with a 🐎 is beyond belief. When I tell you I prayed after reading this book, I prayed. This is a sick and very disturbing book.

Ummm, what did I just read? I received a free copy of this short story from the author so opted to give it a try. Can't say I've ever read a book like this before. I'm picking my jaw off the floor as I write this review.
This is a version of extreme horror, I'm sure. There are definitely trigger warnings, which become apparent the moment you read the first page. It wasn't the content that lowered my star rating but rather the simplicity and predictability of the plot. I knew exactly where it was going from the start.
I think if one is okay with extreme horror content and a straightforward plot (no hidden twists or unexpected reveals), this is a quick story with a terrific moral. Almost like a sick and twisted Grimm's fairytale.
This is a real sick little story of Limpet. He likes animals.... really likes animals. This can't be called a novel more than a short story, and is part of Iain Rob Wright's A-Z of Horror series and as far as I know is banned.
The story overall was very cringe-worthy and difficult to read in sections; but I will say that this has not been the most disgusting thing I have read. I can only guess that the whole "story being banned" thing probably has more to do with the potential squeamishness, ick factor and taboo subject matter.
I pretty much had the story figured out by about the mid-point. Does that make this predictable? Hard to say. I would actually tend to believe it just means that I have a sick mind and have read far too many of these.
Overall a good quick read.... literally read it on the way home. At stoplights, of course! :)
D is for Degenerate ..... and despicable, debauched and depraved ...... and plain FU! I don't know who's more twisted - the degenerate, the octogenarian or the author for thinking this scenario up. I can see why it's been banned, but it's not the worst I've read by a long shot. I read it with a wrinkled nose, a large helping of WTF and, I'll admit, stifled guffaws at the ending and the perpetrators comeuppance.(puns definitely intended!)
Proper disappointed with this.. I grabbed it because it was banned I expected all kinds of disgust and debauchery but it was just a little horsey loving.. There was absolutely no description of the main event no blood or blackout pain and it ended at 79% ... Yeah as far banned books go I feel let down.. Sorry
This short story was banned from the A-Z of Horror....it’s written in the same vein with equal gore and horror as the rest of this series. Good short story, loved the ending.
Uh, wow. I don't know what I went into this book expecting, but it was far from that. It was absolutely disgusting, but I could not stop reading. By the time I was finished, I was so wide-eyed, I couldn't close them. A good quick read, just not in public lol! If you want to be shocked, definitely go for it.
This horror short story takes an unsuspected path from the start, before climaxing (no pun intended) to an equally unsuspected end, but don't read if easily offended.
The author warns you at the start—and I brushed it off and I dove in. Well, turns out the warning was serious. I received this short story for free after signing up to the author’s newsletter, and thanks to the other titles I received, I became a fan of Iain Rob Wright’s work. But if this had been my introduction, I’m not sure I would’ve continued. While the writing itself is great, the subject matter is not. I’m not easily shocked, but bestiality was beyond my limits. I nearly stopped reading, but after checking some reviews, I pushed through. I now understand why this story has been banned—and rightly so. I’m all for shock value in horror/thriller (it’s part of what makes the genre so gripping) but in this case, it felt like a step too far. Wright is a brilliant storyteller and can disturb and unsettle readers in countless ways. This short may alienating readers entirely and I would suggest it be removed from his freebies mailout. This particular story isn’t one I’d recommend, but nearly every other book I’ve read by Iain Rob Wright has been excellent. If you're new to his work, definitely start elsewhere.
Dark, Disturbing, and Utterly Unputdownable D is for Degenerate by Iain Rob Wright is everything I’ve come to expect from his twisted imagination—and then some. This book grabs you from the very first page and doesn’t let go until the shocking final chapter. It’s intense, unapologetically dark, and filled with that signature Wright blend of horror, suspense, and biting social commentary. The story is raw and unsettling, yet masterfully written. Each scene feels vividly real, pulling you deep into the psychological decay of its characters. Wright has a talent for making you squirm one moment and think deeply the next—questioning morality, sanity, and what truly makes someone a “degenerate.” If you enjoy dark fiction that pushes boundaries and makes you feel something—fear, disgust, fascination, awe—this book is for you. Not for the faint of heart, but absolutely unforgettable. Highly recommended for fans of horror that dares to go too far—in the best possible way. I received an ARC copy and this is my honest review.
I really enjoyed D is for degenerate horror genre by Iain Rob Wright. This short story is not for the faint hearted so be warned as one has to have an open mind.
Lempit is a twenty-nine year old drifter who has unusual sexual preferences especially of the bestial type.
Lempit comes upon a Farmer's land and Arthur an octogenerian widower who befriends Lempit and catches him loitering on his land and after hearing Lempit's story Arthur takes pity on him and invites him to stay in the warmth of his home.
Lempit daydreams about what kind of life he could have if he were to ask Arthur if he could stay on at the farm permanently and repay him by working on the farm.
There are some hilarious moments in this short story and Lempit has more than one leg in the farmer's barn and the other leg trying to get under the Farmer's table.
The moral of the story is karma will always hit you back especially when you are not ready for it.
So I should start off with saying whenever a author starts their warning as contains disturbing material without listing the type of material, it is really upsets me. And it’s not because I have trigger warnings or need constant warnings but because other people do. Not everything is their forte, and that warning is too broad.
It is a really short story, so there’s not really a lot of depth to it. I was still kind of expecting a little bit more though. So the short story has to deal with bestiality. And considering the author has, and is saying that he’s a horror writer, I was kind of expecting maybe some sort of twist to be terrifying but it’s kind of what you expect.
It wasn’t a bad short story, but it definitely wasn’t the best. It was predictable, and not very horrorish. I have five other of his books that I got for free by signing up for his newsletter so I’m hoping those five other ones will be better than this one.
This short story was laughable, there was no guesswork as to where it was going from the outset. Lempet likes to fuck animals, Lempet gets an offer of a bed for the night from a farmer whose horse he has just got it on with, farmer doses Lempet with ketamine and gives him a taste of his own medicine. The end. I’ve read worse depravity in my time (a cunilingual abortion to name one) so the fact that Limpet was into beastiality wasn’t that much of a shocker. For a book that’s been banned as many times as it has I was expecting far, far worse. An extremely disappointing read, not worth my time. The one star is because I do respect anyone who actually writes a book and puts it out there for us bookdragons to devour.

I got this book for free as part of a package for signing up for the authors mailing list. The first page holds a warning and the knowledge that it has been banned from several publishers initially peaked me curiosity but I was unfortunately left more than a bit disappointed. After reading ASBO and really enjoying it (don't judge hehe) I can honestly say that this level of horror is really not for me. The subject matter was sickening and although well written is more of a short story than a novel. Understanding that it's part of the A-Z of horror, I would think reading it as part of the full anthology would probably work better.
The author is a prolific writer and has written a series of horror novels for each letter of the alphabet. This is the fourth in his series. D is for Degenerate is more of a short story wherein a homeless sicko pleasures himself with a farm animal but is allowed to spend the night with the aging, widower farmer who treats him with kindness, until he doesn’t and seeks poetic justice. Nothing about this story was tense. Nothing about this story shouted horror. Thank goodness it was part of a package of free downloads. I’ll probably give one more of his stories a chance but if it is anything like this one I will probably delete the remainder of them unread. Don’t waste your time on this one.
This book was a freebie for joining the author's mailing list...
I just don't know what the think! Really sickening stuff - I can see why it was banned by other publishers.. but, on the other hand, it was very well written and the detail (however horrific that may be) was gripping. I almost stopped reading but just had to see where it was going... good ending!
A book that gave me bad dreams and I wish I could unread it!
I just couldn;t bring myself to give it more than 3 stars however well it was written just due to the content. Not for the squeamish!!!!
Honestly, the opening lines put me off...thankfully it was a short story. I do have a wide variety of taste in reading material, so I got over my initial reaction fairly easy, though I'd not read something like it before. I did have an inkling that there was going to be a twist before their night was over, but didn't see it coming until they had breakfast; even then it took me a bit longer to put 2 & 2 together. I do love it when a plan comes together! All in all it was a great ending, and I'm looking forward to checking out some of the author's other writings.
