According to the Mayan Prophecies, the 5,000-year “Fourth Age” will conclude in 2012—culminating either in the cataclysmic end of the world as we know it or in a new golden age. The Maya End Times is a wake-up call for averting disaster, connecting us to ancient predictions that reveal how close we are to apocalypse. Set in the mysterious worlds of the shamans, it leads us through otherworldly journeys through the stars, moving inspirationally from the past to the future, with an underlying message of hope from the voices of the “singing” crystal skulls. What seekers learn will empower them and help them understand the significance of the Mayan foretellings. It’s a potent and unforgettable mix of serious investigation, travel adventure, and inner experience.
"The Maya end times is not what I thought it would be. I read it for information for a book I am writing and I got a small degree of what I needed. The book did name Mayan Gods, important Mayan ruins and some of the myths. There was a little (not a lot) of the Mayan prophecy of the end of the fourth sun, the birth of the fifth during the Spring Equinox - December 2012. The star I give is for the limited information I found useful.
I preface by saying I am no way a believer in the spiritual world and chakras and things of the like. Do they exist? Perhaps, my disbelief does not unequivocally prove one way or the other. Having said that, if I had read up on this book or even checked out other works b y Patricia Mercier then I guess I would have given this a miss. However, I did read it through, and can, therefore, say I was disappointed. If you believe that which I do not, this book should be high on your list.
This book is the Author's journeys in an out of the former Mayan heartlands of Guatemala, Honduras, and Yucatan. She meets spiritual leaders and becomes the 'keeper' of one of only 13 Mayan crystal skulls that play an enormous role in the events of the 2012 Equinox. It read like an absurd book of fiction, almost to the point where I could name her influences. Throw in a healthy amount of Indiana Jones, some Wilbur Smith dangerous jungle scenes and a healthy dose of action packed Alistair Maclean as she and her guide escape down a Mexican river by boat whilst being fired upon by unseen men from the dense jungle river banks.
Sitting in a cafe with her husband as a nearby tree is cut to plunge down onto the rooftop but not before they can escape wit h their lives. Yep, Ok so what is happening at Macchu Pichu? It really was way too self-indulgent for me and the kicker.............? This book was published in 2008 so Patricia informs us that post-Equinox 2012 she will not have time to write her ending. Thereafter we get an ending, yes we live the final night of the fourth sun with Patricia as she sways gently in a hammock on the beach near some Mayan caves that are to be the savior of many. Obviously, this is how Patricia perceives the final day of the changeover to be as the tsunamis rise, the winds and rain increase and the Earth begins to tremble. Help me out here people. Would this be Deep Impact, San Andreas or The Day After Tomorrow? Or perhaps another disaster movie you may remember.
The strange thing is that basic Mayan prophecies can seem exaggerated in themselves so why not just stick to them. Discuss them in depth and trace their origins. There is very little doubt that the Mayans were an amazingly int elligent race of people. They created calendars that were so very accurate and built temples so perfectly aligned to The Milky Way and the planets above. These are the things I want to read about, get lost in and marvel at. I hope the next book I read on Mayan times the Author can give over and not make it about themselves.
