“I wasn’t sure what words were about to come out of my mouth, but I looked straight into the camera and I began.”

This was a really interesting mystery story, and I really wanted to know what had happened!

I felt quite sorry for Elena in this book. She’d been through a horrible experience, and then to have to lie about it for 8 years just made things worse. Not only di

When Elena Black was nine years old, two tragedies happened . The first was the death of her friend Lizzy when they were out bike riding , as only one girl came home that night and now years later Elena is seventeen years old and it seems the case is being re-opened as Lizzy's body was never recovered and the only person who might know where she is , is Elena but of course Elena has blocked out the incident all these years but things might start to be coming to light - new evidence that could po ...more

Elena has had a very hard home life dealing with her drug addicted mother and her abusive and controlling step-father/uncle. Elena longs for the day that she will graduate high school and move far away, the only downside would be leaving her younger sickly brother behind. Elena also longs to leave behind the knowledge that haunts her, that she knows what really happened to her best friend years ago and she is not telling. When a new Detective re-opens the case and starts to ask questions, Elena ...more

This for me was a book that I requested on Netgalley as soon as I read the Premise. Normally, I go through Netgalley, check out the new releases and add them to my TBR list on Goodreads. Only books that really intrigue me are ever requested. While I guessed fairly early on what had happened to her best friend as a child, I still enjoyed reading the actual book itself.

Right from the very first page, the reader is introduced to the main character in an interview room at the police station. Of cour

Dirt Daughter Dirt Daughter tells the rather tragic story of Elena Black. She has known a life of tragedy and loss, betrayal and neglect. When she was young, she lost her best friend Lizzy in a terrible accident, her body never found. Soon after, she lost her father when he died after a fall from a bridge. These events forever changed her life in so many ways. After her father's death, her mother became hopelessly addicted to drugs and took up with her former brother-in-law, Elena's uncle. He wa ...more

Many thanks to MuseItUp Publishing and MuseItUp YA, via NetGalley, for an opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review!

3.5

I liked this book. Honestly -- like many other reviewers -- I guessed the "whodunnit" part of the mystery by probably 30% through the book. But the most interesting aspect of the book, to me, was what knowing that she had lied to the police, repeatedly, regarding her friend's murder, was doing to Laney psychologically.

I also appreciated the very realistic lo

NetGalley. Thanks for the copy.

Dirt Daughter is YA Suspense and Mystery. The mystery revolves around the death of Elena Black's childhood friend, Lizzy (full named Elizabeth). Lizzy's case has gone cold years ago, and Elena has a lot of secrets and hidden memories to hide. Elena is sure that Lizzy is dead, and she is trying to put the past behind her. However, Chayton (a new boy in town and cousin of Lizzy) stirs up the past and a detective starts digging out all of the skeletons in the ground.

This one was pretty good. It was an interesting take on a mystery novel but I wasn't over the moon about it. I feel like half the novel was spent with Elena whining about not being able to date her boyfriend because she witnessed his cousin being murdered. I did like their relationships and Elena though.

I liked Elena though. I thought it was ver

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book.

I was intrigued by the idea of Dirt Daughter, having read books with a similar sounding plotline in the past. Dirt Daughter is described as a Teen and YA mystery novel with thriller elements.

I’ve been struggling to find the words to describe how I felt about Dirt Daughter. If I’m honest, I was disappointed. I had high hopes for it and kept expecting a plot twist or to be proved wrong and that just didn’t happen. I am however aware that

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review? Seventeen year old Elena knows who murdered Lizzie on that long ago day in the woods. She knows the stages of decomposition that her body went through, and has a good idea of where her small bones lie hidden, so why has she lied about it to everyone? That is the question that drives this YA mystery, and the answer isn't clear until the end. I thought this was a pretty good read. The plot moves fairly quickly, an ...more

I read and am reviewing an ARC of this title.

Dirt Daughter's plot is simple enough: Elena's best friend Lizzy died when they were nine. Elena knows what happened but hasn't shared the truth.

As a junior in high school, she's struggling with that, college applications, the death of her father, the drug addiction of her mother, taking care of her little brother, a really shady stepfather, and now a cute new guy at school. Too much? Yeah, probably. Characters, settings, and subplots get in the way

Good Story **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**Elena Black was 17. She had lied, but after 8 years, she wanted to tell the truth about her friend Lizzy's death when she was 9. Elena's Uncle Rick, who was also her step-father, was abusive. Elena met Chayton and had to keep her secrets even from him. Elena was in a no-win situation. She loved her mom and her little brother. She was responsible. She had plans for her life, but she also had a conscious. She was caring ...more
