Sidelined demon summoner Kara Gillian has her hands full when dimensional rifts allow demons to cause widespread panic and destruction on Earth. These aren't the human-tolerant summonables she's known before, but demons from the far reaches of the demon realm.

The Kara Gillian series has its ups and downs, fortunately mainly ups.

This time the book jumps a few months ahead right in the middle of action sequence, literally, and apparently Kara has been promoted to something akin to world leader of fighting the supernatural. Everyone knows her connections to the realm and what she's about, so she has the edge when ridges start opening over the world and Earth starts going to literal hell. She even talks to the president at some point, although the reade

A lot happened in this book. So much so, I don't know what to say. I'm TEAM Ryan to my utter disappointment. I don't mind the other guy, but... Anywho, so many answers and resolutions, but there is clear set up to future books. For me, since I'm not a re-reader, I found too much time had passed. So I will feel lost until I was reminded of books long since passed. I can say I've enjoyed other books more maybe cause I listened back to back. Anyway, good story.
Prepare, people... For absolute paranoia!
It's been some time since a book left me wondering just whom to trust for so long. This novel literally had me doubting everyone's motives and everything I read throughout most of the story..

So many truths are turned upside down. Not just what we thought we knew regarding the lords - but what we have believed to be true about the demonic realm as well...

I categorised last year's novel as a bridge book. This one: not so much.
In fact, we FINALLY get to lea

LEGACY OF THE DEMON is the eighth installment in the Kara Gillian series. I have to admit, I haven’t read much of Diana Rowland’s work but I wanted to give this series a shot just because I’ve read a lot of great things about it. For one, the covers are badass but I think her writing is what carries this series.

Kara Gillian is my kind of heroine. She’s kickass and cool but at the same time, she has her own set of vulnerabilities that makes her more relatable. I think if you’re a fan of Jaye We

Arghh, how to even review this? I am torn. It feels like the only reason I will give this a 3 is cos I like this world and these characters, but my brain realises it is only a 2. If this had been any other series it had been a 2 and I would not have read more. SIGH.

From what I remember I had the same issues with the previous books. She just talked and talked and talked, they went from place to place, but nothing happened. If I had been the editor I would have cut half the book cos 500 pages of t

Well, last book I complained a bit about lack of movement in the overarching plot, loose ends that were not tied up and left me with a ton of questions .......... problem solved.

This book started off with such a bang I had to go back to make sure I had not missed a book somehow but this one starts with a stressful scene and seems to go from one battle to another keeping the reader's stress level high (did me anyway), the questions I had are getting answered a little at a time and things that wer

I don't know how I feel about this book. This is really a tough one for me. I really enjoyed it on a lot of levels. There was really non-stop action from start to finish so it carries you through it fast enough. I didn't dislike any of the characters either, really.

But, to me, it felt like a very strong shift in the story line. All the old "secrets" are just being thrown at you without prompting. It's like 8 books worth of "secrets" are shoved down our throats. This wouldn't normally be a bad th

Well I'm back in the world of demon summoner Kara Gillin and what a lot she has to put up with! Constantly knowing she might be the only one who can save the world and yet those bureaucrats at the FBI and Homeland Security still get in her way. You would think being Arcane Commander and the woman who came up with DIRT , not to mention Kara's connection to certain demon lords would cut her some slack but no as this book begins yet again Kara is in the thick of it.
An awful lot has happened as this

Kara has had her power cut and is isolated away from the demon lords (except one). But she has no time to just sit back without power – her best friend is bereft, her baby is missing

And the world is under siege – there are rifts appearing everywhere, spewing out demons, some of them completely unlike anything Kara has seen before. The world knows about demons – because they’re under constant attack and have very few experts who can actually fight back.

While the demon lords are overwhelmed trying
I always really like the way Rowland writes law enforcement characters, they really ring true. Which of course makes sense since she was one and worked with them in several capacities over the years. It's also a series that is currently very different from where it started out. It was very police procedural, American-based urban fantasy/romance in the beginning, then it moved completely away from the police casework entirely, and then off Earth. Now it’s back to Earth pretty much, but despite al ...more

This is one time that I had wished I read the book instead of listening to it and not because of anything wrong with the narration, I love Liv Anderson, she has been consistent with her characters throughout the series and I have loved and looked forward to listening to her.  The issue I have is, this world is so complex and it started in the beginning of the series and now 8 books later we are starting to get answers to some of those burning questions.  However, do to the complexity of the ques ...more

I won't lie, I was completely lost when I started reading LEGACY OF THE DEMON. You find out pretty quick that there was a lot of information missed between book 7, VENGEANCE OF THE DEMON and now. In fact, months have passed, Kara is part of a new team and her new job title is a pretty big deal—the president calls her big—, demons are causing major havoc due to the dimensional rift that happened at the end of VENGEANCE OF THE DEMON, and on top of that, she is dead set on findin

I was given a copy of this book by Netgalley for an honest review.

Legacy of the Demon: Demon Novels, Book Eight (Kara Gillian) is the best book yet, in this series. Kara and everyone are now dealing with the fallout of what happened with the last book. Now the world has demons, strange plants, and mutated animals loose in the world. She has to find a way to close the rifts safely and find Jill's daughter Ashava and Zack. The book starts of with a lot of action, Kara and a group of specialists ar

Well I wanted action and boy did I get it! This was nonstop. Most of the time it felt more like a dystopian sci fi novel than the paranormal that I've come to love. But I forgive Rowland because she is careful to stay on point and I believe she took us over the edge for a reason.

There is war, scary demons, death, magic and deals. There is plenty of tension and yes, you need to read the books that come before this one to really understand what's going on. And just when you think there's nothing o

I started out a bit apprehensive about this entry into the Kara Gillian series. It begins two months after Book 7 ended, and everything is VERY different. It's a much more military-ish (militant?) story--something I'm not usually into. But then it gets back to the sort of story that I love Diana Rowland for writing: character-driven, with plenty of jaw-dropping worldbuillding and big twist(s) at the end. I'm ready for the next one!

Whelp, I finally finished this darn book. It took me days seeing as how the font is smaller than normal. If it was in normal font I would say it would be roughly 900 pages long! Yes, you read that right, 900. I am assuming that authors get paid by the word because a lot of this was filler and didn't seem important at all.

As with the last book I am disappointed with the story telling. This book could have easily been fit into half the size and been better for it simply because it didn't drag on.

The Kara Gillian series has been one of my long running favorite urban fantasy series. So much has happened since the beginning of the series it’s truly amazing when you think about it. Unfortunately, however, this latest installment was missing a lot of the spark that keeps me coming back to this series. From the start, we’re thrown into the middle of things with no explanations of the massive changes from the previous installment. Granted, it’s been

What a fun thrill-ride of a book! The book opens about 2 months after the end of the previous book and the Earth is in an all-out war with demons. There are dimensional rifts opening up in many places and military teams have been formed to help deal with the incursions. Of course, since Kara is one of the few who know what’s going on, she’s one of the ones in charge to keep things in check. With the opening action-packed scene, we the readers are grabbed by the throat and aren’t released until t ...more

This has become one of my favorite series. It has a little of everything now. There is love, action, murders, demons, a female lead kicking butt, and mystery. I remember when I started this series I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. But this latest addition to the series goes all out!

Kara is leading the fight against the demons invading earth. She finds herself having to be more than her power will allow. We see Kara move from a faithful t
