FLOCCCOOOOOOOO BABY
One thing about it…. I love a man who knows what he wants and ain’t stopping until he gets it. Hyphen played as long as she could before she had no choice but to surrender. Flocco is that NIGAAAAAAA

This was MID yikes…. definitely has the traditional urban feel but the characters lacked depth. It felt like we got urban scenes and themes but it didn’t flow in a way it felt authentic. Maybe that’s the purpose but ehhh Grey has written better urban themes books in my opinion (i.e., Lawe ). The plot twist at the end I kind of suspected something but not to that extent. Flacco definitely knew he wanted Hyphen and made it clear she just had to get with the program. Love the book cover.

Selfish Love
Hyphen is back at square one, 4 yrs after she thought she was leaving the struggle of "hood life" behind. Now her one mission is to choose herself at all costs. She is in her selfish era and she refuses to ever be down bad because she messed around and trusted a 🥷🏽
Fate is crazy, because while she is in her scamming azz era, trying to fund her dreams she runs into Flocco. He is fine as wine and had claimed her as his since she touched back in Dooley, even if she refused to accept it. We love a man that knows exactly what he wants. Flocco was crazy about Hyph. He was just fine interrupting her motion and trying to get her to realize all she needed was him. Although, he wasn't her usual rich 🥷🏽 whatever he had he was willing to give and more importantly he showed up for her when no one else did.
I enjoyed their banter, their connection. The slow fall from Hyph because Flocco was clear.
I will say in the quest to be more "urban" it felt like every stereotypical hood storyline was mentioned and that felt forced. We had boosting, scamming, robbing, the strip club, a baby momma, Grandma watching the baby, a crack head momma and on and on. The writing is always solid, it was Grey coded but let the characters speak without all the outside noise of what Urban should look like. You can get that same feel, and you have with the Eisenbergs, with a lot less noise.
Either way it was a good read.

I really loved how naturally they fell in love. Flocco knew from the start that Hyphen was endgame, but he let her be a hot girl and do her while she slowly caught up to where he already was. 🥹
Hyphen was such a great FMC. She was the complete opposite of his peace, and he loved every minute of it. She had that man crashing out through Dooley.
I’ll definitely be rereading this one soon. Now I’m hoping we get a follow-up story about her friend because I need it!

Yeah, that's the review. 😂
But seriously, this book completely pulled me in from the very first chapter. It has that effortless chemistry where you don't need over-the-top drama to convince you two people belong together. You just feel it.
What I loved most was that neither Flocco nor Hyphen tried to become someone else to make the relationship work. Hyphen was stubborn, guarded, and determined to do life on her own terms. Flocco never tried to dim that. He simply kept showing up, matching her energy when he needed to and giving her space when she needed that too. There was something really refreshing about watching a love story unfold without either person losing themselves.
And can we talk about Flocco for a second? That man had patience, confidence, and knew exactly when to step in and when to let Hyphen figure things out on her own. Book boyfriend status? Absolutely.
The dialogue felt natural. The banter had me smiling. I genuinely looked forward to every scene they shared. This is one of those books where the romance sneaks up on you because it grows instead of forcing itself.
I also appreciated that underneath all the Dooley chaos was a story about trust, timing, and finding someone who feels like home when life has convinced you not to believe in happy endings.

3.75⭐️ this was my first book by this author and it was such a quick and fun read! I loved Hyphen, ugh she was such a baddie and i loved how she was lowkey treating men LMAOOO like idk i was a stan. But the romance was fast paced and a little insta lovey. i would’ve loved a slower burn but that’s just a personal preference. Also, the end of chapter 10 really irritated me (iykyk) but this overall was fun and bingeable.

Ehh… I wasn’t sold. 😂 Hyphen (which is a horrendous name, I must add lol) being all in love and soft with a man just for him to cheat? And there’s no big argument—she just turns up the oven and leaves. Love it. 😂 Then she gets back to Dooley and meets Flacco, aka Laurence. I don’t think I enjoy the “I want you, and I’m going to have you” trope because he was just… too much for me lol.
For a novella, this dragged like a MF’er. However, I appreciated the twist. Zeek being connected in more than one way actually bumped my rating up a bit. That reveal was unexpected and made the story more interesting. Overall, it was a decent palate cleanser, but not one I’ll be thinking about for very long

She Couldn’t Escape The Inevitable
Wow ! Flocco & Hyphen had me ALL OVER the place in my feelings ! Flocco was not one to play with when it came to Hyphen. He made that known FIRST without any hesitation. Hyphen was so hard headed this whole book, but Flocco did not stop applying pressure when it came to her. The PLOT TWIST in this shocked me ! Didn’t even EXPECT that to be a thing ! I can’t lie, Hyphen & Flocco both equally worked my nerve at a point in the story, BUT I understood why each time both of them were thinking the way they were. This book definitely feels like an ode to black women, so many gems were dropped in this that I appreciate! The ending was definitely the cherry on top, LOVED IT. Flocco & Hyphen were certainly a TIME to read about.

It's definitely a different kind of good
Hyphen and Flocco were so much to deal with in one sitting. I love flawed characters. These two are perfectly flawed and synergistic at the same time. Hyphen was unapologetic about what she wanted for herself, and Flocco wanted her. Yes, the story is deliciously different.

2.5 ⭐️ This was a quick read that imo was likely geared towards the 21-25 yo crowd. It’s about a ghetto fabulous hood rich summer in Dooley. Hyphen and Saga are friends who were outside doing ratchet ass shit. Scamming, plotting, and scheming…Flocco shows up intent on making Hyphen his. Outside is canceled!

What brought Hyphen to this lifestyle? Was it just one cheating occurrence? Why would she leave the biggest bag, and go back to the hustling lifestyle? If I’m reading about scamming, i want the full experience. Not just the beginning of a setup before a maniac wanna be boyfriend shows up to stop it! There was no type of romance element. Flocco just shows up, whenever Hyphen was around another man, carrying her away.
I didn’t get a feel for Dooley. What made Dooley such a special, memorable place? I really didn’t get much of a feel for the characters either. I only know they were young based on their actions and dialogue.
Saga was more of a distant character, where I feel the story could’ve benefited from her being more of a main character, not just a “friend of”. There was such a plot hole with the Zeek situation.

3⭐️. I think this book was slightly overhyped due to the beautiful cover .
Hyphen is a FMC that I’ll always support. She didn’t believe in staying with someone who didn’t serve her. That prologue was EVERYTHING. A summer in Dooley was supposed to be a fun time with her girl saga. Trickin niggas & taking their money.. instead she runs into Flocco & he changes the whole trajectory of Hyphen summer. .
Flocco ass was crazy lol. But I liked his craziness. He wasn’t playing with Hyphen when he said if I catch you with a nigga ima rob him lol. & believe Flocco indeed Robb niggas for hyphen. I loved how he always communicated what he wants & didn’t shy away from it.
Now while I liked the character… I found the story itself to be boring. The book was 196 pages & normally I can read that in one setting but this book didn’t pull me in the way I thought it would. That Darn Hyphen
I love when a story flows like it's supposed to and you fall in love with not only the characters and storyline as well! Even though Hyphen wasn't your average chick, I love how she knew when to choose herself and stick to her plan! But Flocco definitely wasn't letting off the gas about her either! I enjoyed this one so much! Hopefully Saga's book will be coming soon!

Hyphen and Flocco
This started off with a bang because that prologue was nothing to play with! Especially the ending of it. What made this a good story was how you thought this summer was all about tricking and playing men but really Hyphen had a plan for bigger goals she had let fall by the waist side. Flocco aka Laurence was pressure and after not making his move years prior was not letting off Hyphen. Although I didn't see the plot twist coming it was done well for this novella.

Good good!!!
I really enjoyed this book and the little twist at the end… I love a man like Flocco all pressure pure gas and no stops I loved that for Hyph because she was the roadrunner which was understandable because of what she been through… Nevertheless it was a good read and I am loving Dooley can’t wait for Saga and Sully

The First Of Many ! ….
This new venture that grey is doing as Greyce is so her. I enjoyed my time in Dooley it’s the everyday hood in our community that has its uniqueness, rough edges and what makes us be us. Hyphen and Flocco were a match made both unhinged, bold, unapologetic and for each other willingly and unwillingly lol. Hyphen was all about her, her money and remorselessly selfish. I lived and loved for her character she put me on game and gave me insight to think on about myself in going after what I want without remorse, guilt or shame. This book told the truth so many woman are grown to nurture and always give to others before themselves and Hyphen said not tf her. More women need to be selfish it’s just hard because it’s ingrained in us but I feel it takes time and I hope more women take back for themselves and put them first after being last for so long. Flocco wanted all parts of hyphen the selfishness and stoniness didn’t make him any less infatuated and feening for her in the best way. This man gave her whatever she wanted in the best positive way and I was here for it and loved it!!
Their story wasn’t meant to be something long it was more of a Pitt stop of what they are now and will be in the future. Hyphen and Saga mannn were hilarious the Siamese twins in chaos and friendship. The support they gave for one another was top tier. So it’s only right they get men that are coco for coco puffs for them. The dynamic of flocco aka Laurence to hyphen is something to be studied he was a man in his own category they don’t make men like this no more 😂. The chemistry between them magnetic can’t be pulled apart by anything. The revelations they went through only made them stronger and flocco wasn’t coming up off her !
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Channing Dooley with the adventure of this couple where lessons are taught and action is needed. I can’t wait for the future sporadic drops that Greyce gives us in her world. 🤎

This was my first book by Greyce Huffington, and I really enjoyed it. It was a quick read, and while I do wish it had been a little longer and more detailed, I honestly love a fast paced, straight to the point book more often than not.
These characters completely won me over. Flocco is officially one of my new book boyfriends. The way he knew exactly what he wanted and did whatever he had to do to get and keep Hyphen had me smiling from the very beginning. Even with his little hiccup, I couldn't be too mad at him because Hyphen was definitely playing in his face more than once. But, to be fair, she told him exactly what she was on from the start, and he chose to pursue her anyway. He knew what he was signing up for.
Now let's talk about Hyphen. Babbyyyyy, I LOVE her. She never played about herself, not once. From beginning to end, she chose herself every single time. She didn't let anyone, not even the man she loved, stop her from chasing what she wanted. I admired her strength so much. She stood on business, knew her worth, and refused to settle or shrink herself for anybody.

Being fresh out of a long relationship where I spent far too many years putting myself last, this book found me at exactly the right time. It was everything I needed and more. I fear I'm officially in my Hyphen era, and honestly, I love that for me.
I'll definitely be reading more from Greyce Huffington because this was an incredible introduction to her work.

Hot Girl Sumer in Dooley
Hyphen was really having a hot girl summer, and when she said, “play them, play them,” honestly, that set the tone for this entire book.
I loved everything about this story. It delivers a message that so many women and young ladies need to hear: it’s okay to be selfish sometimes. It’s okay to put yourself first, choose your happiness, and pursue the life you want without constantly sacrificing yourself for everyone else. At the end of the day, you have to live with your choices, so make sure you’re living for you.
And baby, Flacco? Whew. I love a man who loves women, and he showed that every chance he got. He was patient, nurturing, understanding, and protective in all the right ways.
From beginning to end, this book delivered. The author took the time to unpack the emotions, develop the characters, and tell a story that felt real and meaningful. Everything flowed naturally, and I was invested every step of the way.
I cannot wait for the next installment. If we get Saga’s story, I’m all in. This book reminded me of summertime in Miami—being young, carefree, outside, making memories, and feeling alive. It captured that energy perfectly, and I loved every minute of it.

This is my first read of Grey/Greyce’s work and I am already eager to dive more into her catalog. I’m happy this was where I started because it definitely let me know I’m going to be a forever fan.
I loved Hyphen. I am currently going through a heartbreak, which is coming with a lot of reflection. Hyphen gave me a lot of gems that I hope to carry with me from this day forward. The main points being: Be as selfish with yourself as you should be, choose yourself first and above all, leave the first time don’t wait cause you’re waiting on absolutely nothing. Though I don’t condone her making Hyphen pay for the mistakes of the prior man, I loved how she stood her ground and treated them niggas for the only thing they were worth: them pockets.

summer in dooley
I’m not sure how I felt about this story but I didn’t hate it. I liked Flocco’s character but I struggled with liking or maybe relating to Hyphen. She was a woman scorned and was on a journey of forget men and get money and not caring who got hurt in the process. I understood her need to be selfish especially after being hurt by who you thought was the love of your life but her seeking vengeance through other men was annoying mostly because of the way she tried to handle Flocco. That man was down bad about his Hyph and would do anything for her. I loved that his love for her was unconditional and that he didn’t try to change her but show her that she didn’t need to use other men for money and clothes when he was ready and willing to give her all that she desired.
The way Hyphen left her ex gave me Waiting to Exhale vibes and I kept waiting for him to pop back up and when he did, it wasn’t pretty, but Flocco handled it. In the end, Hyphen found the love she was running from after being hurt, she hit the ultimate lick and Flocco got his girl and Justice for his parents.

“When life gave her choices, she always chose herself. always. and while those who hardly choose themselves will find it difficult to relate to her, i can. because, i will ALWAYS choose myself. it doesn't matter how much i inconvenience someone else. what most must understand is we only have one story. once it ends, our lives are over. and, making ANYONE else the main character of your story is a disservice to you!”
I’ll admit this was a fun summer read—wild, messy, and entertaining. It also had some solid takeaways about choosing yourself in a world that constantly expects women to put everyone else at the center of their lives. That being said...the story itself was kind of underwhelming. The toxicity and constant begging got old fast and felt way too dragged out. I also wish the relationships had more depth because it felt forced a lot of the times. Also, the plot twist that was introduced at the end had so much potential, but was rushed and sort of random. Overall, it wasn't a terrible read, but it was pretty mid.
