Fun 4 Hire #3

The Food Fight Professional

Rate this book
I, Joey Michaels, am the Food Fight Professional.

Basically this means that if food is flying in the school cafeteria, people think I’m responsible. Working at a soup kitchen as punishment shows me how I can use my reputation in a good way—to organize a “food fight” to fight hunger.

Winning the food fight wouldn’t be so hard if I didn’t have the following three problems:
1) The neighbor girl who records all my mistakes and posts them to the internet
2) Her newly adopted brothers from Haiti who don’t think wasting food is a laughing matter
3) A school principal who wants revenge for the pie I smashed in her face

If I can keep from making too big a mess in the kitchen this time around, I just might be able to have my pie and eat it too.

This book was a little different from the others - in a way that kept it fresh. I appreciated that Joey wasn’t necessarily the instigator this time, but somehow he was still at the center of the action. I loved seeing how he turned a negative situation into something positive.

There are some people in life who need their own tv shows on the Disney Channel.

Joey is one of them.

He's a boy with a heart of gold and a knack for getting himself in trouble. In this installment, Joey has been framed for starting a food fight...by his own best friends. All because of a girl and a stupid "healthy" sandwich that his mother tried to poison him with. Life just isn't fair.

It turns out that the girl next door is hiding a secret. She's been secretly taping Joey's mishaps and uploading them to YouTube. He's famous and he doesn't even know it! When he finds out, he decides to make the most of his new found fame, and that's when the fun begins!

I have to admit, this isn't my normal read. But it is something that I would read to (or buy for) my tween nephews. Joey's tale is laugh out loud funny, never crass, and refreshingly heartwarming. I would recommend this book for middle readers!

THE FOOD FIGHT PROFESSIONAL is the third book in Ms. Strong’s Fun 4 Hire series for tweens and it is as fun as the second one. I didn’t read the first, but I can imagine it’s fun, too.

Joey starts out with good motivations. A food fight to earn money for a good cause—not to waste food. And really, it’s more of a chili cook-off than a food fight. But when the media gets involved and the grand prize involves a Disney cruise, Joey is in it for the prize. Will Joey get his motivation fixed by the end of the book? Plenty of funny (and scary) moments later, you’ll know.

If you have a tweener who loves to read, then THE FOOD FIGHT PROFESSIONAL will be a good book to download.
