This was an interesting read. It takes a little getting used to though. There is a LOT of character building, describing the world and those within it. But the good news is that once you feel like you have a grasp of it, the story really starts to pick up and you find yourself intrigued enough to find out what's gonna happen next.

Olivia "Ollie" Dormier is a Scrivener. What's that? Basically a tattoo artist that has a specific "brand" that acts as a deathmark on humans. This

First book in Abigail Baker's Deathmark series. I really wanted to like this book. I love the premise; different classes of reapers, scriveners who mark the soon to be dead people with a tattoo each unique to them and the reapers themselves who collect the souls, then you have Eidolon who police everyone and the Head Reaper. It's a unique idea but for me the storyline fell flat.

Ollie is an unsuspecting hero, she was just trying to live her life and stay under the radar until her powe

If you ever meet tattoo artist Olivia Dormier, don't ask for a skull tattoo of any kind. If you do, you'll then receive one of her Deathmarks, which means Death, a.k.a. a grim reaper will be coming for you soon. Ollie is a scrivener, her skull tattoos mark people when it's their time to die. Which allows their assigned grim reaper to find them and ferry them to the other side.

Ollie and Brent have chemistry and Brent can be an animal at times and that was really hot, "I fully trusted this Reaper. So I pulled my top over my head. He released a strange but contented growl..." Ollie, I swear that girl is bi-polar and Brent sometimes reminds her of the moods she has, "that yellow gaze was on me. “An hour ago, you called me a lying sack of ***t with rat testicles for balls.” I liked this book Brent was sexy, Ollie was feisty perfect match.

I fell in love with this book instantly because of the cover. It is amazingly awesome. I knew I had to read it. Then of course, I knew I had to jump into it after reading that there would be a romance with a Reaper. Yes, please!

The plot. It was so unique. The idea of some of the Head Reaper’s employees, Scriveners and Reapers, starting a rebellion to take him out because of his corrupt and evil ways was rea

Being a Scrivener means that Ollie Dormier’s tattoos are deadly and like any good employee she tries to stay out of trouble but she’s showing signs of being a master and that is forbidden in this death defying paranormal romance.

Brent Hume is a rebel and he’s counting on Ollie’s power to overthrow the evil and corrupt Head Reaper and the reader can’t help but get caught up in all the thrills and chills as Brent and Ollie try to stay ahead of the all the reapers on their tail. There is a smolderi

Great book, loved the character development. The author does a great job in making the characters believable. Looking forward to reading more of their work

I read this book over the course of roughly 2.5 hours while waiting in lines and doctors' offices, and it's not like I regret having read it because it was better than staring at walls while I waited, but this isn't a very solidly crafted story. Absolutely nobody's motives make any sense.

I found the premise intriguing, and I really liked the fascist government/rising unrest that was going on in the background. However, the dynamics of that government, and how it came to be, and why no one can do

There was something about this book that felt original and fresh. Abigail is an excellent storyteller but whilst I really enjoyed this book it took a while to warm up and pull me in. Once hooked however it was hard to put down

In a troubled world Ollie has a gift and together with rebel Brent a chance to restore 'balance'. There are some who help and others who try to stop them. When one thing leads to another a hot and unlikely romance develops with rebel reape

Let me start by saying that I don't read a lot of romance, so this book is a bit of a departure for me. A fun, rompy, satisfying departure. I definitely plan to depart again when the next book comes out.

I'll assume that you've read the publisher's plot summary already and won't rehash everything. Suffice to say that Ollie starts out following the rules, but in short order finds herself consorting with rebels (in all sorts of ways).

I really enjoyed the writing and pacing of the story. The writing

I'll never look at a tattooist the same- ever. Because in here, but the the tattoo is what calls a reaper for your death. Ollie is a scrivener and her scull tattoo has an extra powerful punch. It's a deathmark and you won't be around for long. And the head reaper Marin will make sure you keep up with quotas on a threat worse than death. This is a cool story and has quite a lot of very unique lore surrounding reapers.

Ollie keeps her head down and follows rules. She knows things aren't exactly ri

I LOVED this book! I always love finding a good reaper story, and I was most definitely not disappointed with this one. From start to finish Abigail Baker had me sucked into the world that is Ollie Dormier, and boy is it one hell of a ride.

Ollie is a Scrivener who is a whole hell of a lot more powerful than she thinks she is. She knows that she has some problems keeping her powers under control, but that happens sometimes with Scriveners who are just starting out right? Ollie soon realizes just

As a fan of grim reaper based novels, I knew I had to grab The Reaper’s Kiss when it popped up on my Netgalley list. Baker has delivered an interesting and unique tale. Ollie is part unsuspecting hero and harbinger of death. Her dystopian and urban fantasy world is filled with unique creatures of the death variety. Her normal day job of death marking victims with her beautiful skull tattoos turns into suspicion and a life on the run. Add in fallen rebel Brent and you’ve got a hot little story w

Ollie, whose nickname I love because it's my beloved furry four-legged baby boy's nickname as well, was such a kick-ass heroine, someone whose transformation was a thrill to read. She's courageous yet isn't afraid to show that she still experiences moments of doubt or fear. She's loving and loyal, especially to those who mean the most to her, and when she lets

Thanks Entangled.

This was an interesting take on Reapers. Ollie is a tattoo artist that puts death marks on those intended for death. It might make you rethink asking for a skull. Since she isn't your typical scrivener she ends up getting into a bit of trouble when she tattoos a guy with a skull.

She ends up getting sucked into a battle against Marin the guy in charge of everyone. He's a tyrant and there are rebels that want to knock him out of power but there's only o

Well, this was interesting. I don’t read many Fantasy stories, so this one was a nice surprise.

We have Ollie and Brent, two rebels who have to fight the Head Reaper (a huge ass, btw), to restore order to the world. Ollie is very reluctant to become a rebel, which makes sense when you see how other rebels are treated.

The story had a lot of ups and downs, a lot of action (which I loved) and some romantic moments here and there. I liked a lot of things about the story, however, to be ho

I enjoyed this book! I was instantly drawn to Baker's unique take on the Reaper world and the Stygian citizens and their hierarchy. I'm not going to rehash the plot because there's enough reviews that do that, but I will share what I loved and what I didn't love as much. It's an easy read with a fun road trip (as fun as it gets when you're on the LAM with a hot reaper) into the States and back to Quebec. The main characters, Ollie and Brent are likable and intriguing, and by the end of the book ...more

I loved the cover of this book and I was instantly drawn to it. I've been a fan of Reapers, I loved Dead Like Me. One of my favorite shows ever! So naturally when I found out what this book was about, I had to read it.

We have Olivia aka Ollie who is a scrivener. She tattoos skulls on people's bodies, when they come into the shop. Which means those people will die very soon. Ollie has a power she doesn't understand and one that could get her killed.

First off, I want to send out huge kudos to the author. I love when authors start to think outside the box and give us something completely new.
I was pulled into this story from the very first page and stayed up into the late hours to get it finished.

The story had a lot of ups and downs, a lot of action, sadness and some romantic moments here and there. I liked a lot of things about the story, however, I found the romantic side of this story to be a bit lacking. Yeah, Ollie and Brent are together a lot, but other than the physical stuff, I didn’t see a deeper connection. This book did have be emotional though and sometimes I felt that I was sitting at the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.

4 Star Book Review | The Reaper’s Kiss By Abigail Baker | Giveaway

I gave The Reaper's Kiss a 4 STAR rating. I loved this unique take on the business of Death. "Death doesn't like bartering." We see this very clearly as the story goes along. I loved seeing Ollie become a leader in her own right and stand up for what's best not only for herself but also the people of Styx. I would have liked a bit more romancy-like moments between Ollie and Brent, but their strong connection is still brought forth

I received this from Netgalley/ Entangled Publishing in exchange for an honest review. This is a paranormal read based on the world of Death. In this book, you have Scriveners, employees of Death that put Death marks on the clients so that Reapers can find them and take them to Hades. However, the death realm is not working how it should. The Head Reaper is corrupt and Ollie is recruited to lead the rebellion. The idea I guess was good but I did not love Ollie she was way to odd for me. The stor ...more

This was a fun book that I was a little skeptical of at first. Marking for death with a tattoo machine? But it works. This was well-written and romantic with some heart wrenching tied in. It was a fun world and I can't wait to read the next one!

This was an interesting take on Reapers.

I liked the power that Ollie possessed and that when it come down to her friend Eve, she had second thoughts on what she was told to do. There were moments this book had an air of the horror element.

The story between Brent and Ollie was not overpowering and very enjoyable.
I would read a second book if the author decided to grace us with it.

This was book had its ups and downs. I liked the idea of the deathmarks and hierarchy of Stygians and I liked the two main characters together. I also get that the ending was written to get you to read the next book, but I found myself skimming so much of the ending. I found I didn't really care as much about the characters or the bad guy or what was happening as I hoped I would.

“I grew tense but hopeful when his eyes turned to my lips. I knew what that meant. Every woman did. However selfish and grossly out of place it was, I was okay with one kiss, more curious than frightened to discover what it is like to kiss a Reaper who could drain my life. Perhaps my motivation was to ridicule Fate by kissing the lips of Death himself. Or maybe I was cold, tired, and downright horny.” 1 likes
