A very funny story about dental hygiene by Jonathan London, author of the best-selling Froggy series.
Whoopsy! Zack squeezes the toothpaste tube and squirts toothpaste all over the bathroom! Whoopsy! Zack forgets to brush his teeth before he visits the dentist--and his banana breath almost knocks over Dr. Potomus!
If Dr. Potomus were grading, he'd give Zack a D for brushing and an F for flossing! Readers will laugh out loud as they (along with Zack) learn a thing or two about dental hygiene!
Jonathan London is the author of several celebrated children's books. His commitment to honoring the wonders of the natural world has been lauded by readers and critics alike. He is the author of more than 70 children's books, many of which are about nature. He's also the author of the popular Froggy series. He lives in Graton, California with his wife and two sons.
I have to admit, this little book really amused me (but I also have a clear weakness for monkeys as main characters). Zack’s silly faces, exaggerated gestures, and overall mischievous energy were genuinely charming to me, and I found myself smiling through the whole dentist visit.
My kids, however, did not share my enthusiasm. One declared the book “very strange” and wanted it out of sight as quickly as possible. The younger one turned the reading into a full critique session, commenting on the proper way to brush teeth, how to squeeze toothpaste correctly, and most importantly, reminding everyone that throwing banana peels around is a big no-no.
So yes, entertaining for me, educational (unexpectedly) for them but definitely a divisive read in our house. LOL
Zack is a monkey. The dentist is a hippo. Is this saying something about society? Are dentist's outraged by this? A fairly average tale about a young person going to the dentist. With added violence towards the dentist. (all unintentional of course)
This is a funny story that can teach young kids the importance of dental hygiene. It can also help ease fears of going to the dentist. it would be great to use in a health lesson.
