Think Cinderella meets The Highlands...or Fairytale Smut!
I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would, although it did involve quite a bit of beliefs being suspended. Her Highland Rogue is an historical romance with a bit of a fantastical twist. Aileana, is found wondering near the MacRae keep and taken in by their Laird, her arrival is accompanied with suspicions of being a foundling and even a spy sent by the MacKenzies or was it the MacDonalds. Errol MacRae the futu

'Her Highland Rogue' by Violetta Rand is book one in the "Wild Highland Guardian" series. This is story is about Aileana and Errol MacRae.
Aileana was found when she was about 10 years old in the forest starved, cold and alone. She was taken in by the McRae and stayed there until one day one of the men tried to assault her. Aileana took off into the woods again. Now Error is told to go and look for

After this book, I question whether Highlanders are to my liking

“What's taking so long, lass”
“More, he commanded.”

Meh. Demanding arses and less than capable heroines are not my thing.

Setting / Time / Genre: 1498

Length: Shortish, but enough

Series: Possibly the beginning of a series.

Sexy times: Possibly. I will admit, I skipped a lot of this book.

Plan on reading more by the author: Probably not.

Her Highland Rogue provides a fair start to the Wild Highland Guardian series.

"Since the day she showed up in Kintail as a nameless child with no memory of her family, Errol’s father had taken pity on her."

Aileana has served the MacRae family since she was young girl, orphaned and with no place to go. Ten years on and when one of the Laird's captains declares his intentions, she flees into the Scottish mountains desperate to escape his brutal ways unaware that Laird's son, Errol is searching

I don't strongly dislike the book, it just was ok. I found it difficult to connect with both characters. Errol seemed like a young boy who had to go out and look for this wayward girl because his father asked him to. I was never sure about his feelings toward Aileana. They had known each other for 10 years. Aileanna served in Errol's father's household. So Errol had never said or done anything until that point to Aileanna, and I am supposed to take it at face value that "he had always felt somet ...more

100% not for me. The style was painful for me. This is everything I don't like in historical romance. No rating because I DNFed very early on.
#1 "Wild Highland Guardian", a new and what promises to be a wild and exciting series.
Holy, Highlanders! Once again, Ms. Rand has written a captivating Scottish Historical Romance. Filled with adventure, wild Highlander's, feisty lasses, mystery, suspense and sizzling romance. The pages practically flies, as the reader turns pages, in awe of what's to come next. The characters, well they are intriguing, fasinicating, engaging and realistic. The storyline is unique, even heart wrenching at times,

I read this because I was promised a book similar to Monica Monica McCartyMcCarty's Highland Guard series.
It's no secret that I have rather opinionated views on Highland romances. Most of the time authors get it terribly wrong in my opinion. McCarty however gets it really right.
So I was a tad bit apprehensive when I started Her Highland Rogue. Thinking I could really love this or uttterly hate it.
Well the good news, I didn't completely hate it. I was just a bit underwhelmed. It's not bad, but

Netgalley for honest review.

This was a very slow paced story, I found it was hard to follow and the main characters one dimensional.

Errol was told by his Father, the Laird to go retrieve Aileana who had run away into the mountains. Aileana was an orphan who had served the Laird and his household for ten years. But one night she receive some unwanted attention from one of the men and so she ran away. So Errol goes to retrieve Aileana and bring her back. The two have know each other, but never rea

Priceless is what I think of the prologue and opening chapter of this book. The prologue sets the reader up for the full flavor of this story. It leaves the reader wanting to know what happened to the lady in the cave. Then the first chapter opening is 17 years later and shows the main male character in all his glory or should I spoiledness. But the genius of this writing was it drew me in and I was very intrigued to see how this young man, Errol, could possibly become a hero.

Aileana for me I di

I enjoyed Violetta Rand's "Her Highland Rogue," very much, this is my first book by this author, but it won't be the last. Aileana is an orphan and probably an illegitimate one. She was found as a young child and taken in by the MacRae's and served in the kitchens. One odd plot device is that she is a serving maid, but the laird (hero's father) loves her like a daughter. Makes me think she would have been put in a better station than kitchen helper. Aileana is very sweet but confused. She runs a ...more

So hear goes my review!! Her Highland Rouge kept me up for most of the night. I really could not stop reading it. The is a very well written story. The characters are well developed and there is a perfect amount of backstory. What I like the most is the storyline moves quickly. There is not a lot of filler words to just get to the word count. The author Violetta Rand has taken a storyline of a orphan child being adopted into the clan, bu

A newly written Highlander romance with an old school romance-feel

This is the first book in a new series of Highlander romances and the first book I’ve read by Miss Rand, thanks to an eARC provided by the publisher (net galley) in exchange for an honest review.

The story, including writing style, choice of words, and type of characters felt kind of like an old school romance novel. It reminded me of the books I’ve read by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss or Johanna Lindsey. Thankfully this one is a lot sho

Her Highland Rogue is an upcoming release by Violetta Rand on June 21, 2016. This book was a sweet, refreshing breath of sweet Highland air. It has been a few years since I have been swept off to the Medieval Scotland, and my return to this setting was joyful, to say the least. Ms. Rand charmed me with skilled quill. She writes with enough detail to sweep you off into the rocky crags of the mountain in the midst of a winter storm without the detail or history detracting from the story itself. Th ...more

I wasn't a fan of either of the main characters in this book. We're told how Aileana is willful and determined, but 62% in, and I haven't seen a hint of that. Errol is attracted to her because 'she's not like other women.' When she runs away from the clan and Errol is tasked with finding her and bringing her back, she tells him that she doesn't want to g

Aileana has lived among the McRae clan since she was orphaned as a young girl. She has no memory of her past. She only knows that, while happy in her new family, she doesn't belong and wants to know where she came from. She has admired Errol, the son of Laird McRae, for many years. She noticed how he followed her around as a young girl and she always has a smile for him, waiting to fill his cup or trencher. Errol seems to have taken no notice of her as a woman but one of the McRae warriors has. ...more

Violetta Rand is on a great path to what I think is going to be an excellent series. In Her Highland Rogue we're introduced to Aileana who as a child was orphaned a found by a neighboring clan the MacRaes. But everything is not what that appeared to be. When accosted by a captain of the guards, Aileana fled the castle, to her anything would be better than to stay at the keep to be mauled by a man who can’t take NO for an answer.

I really liked the gentleness and the patience Errol had with his woman, you could tell he was a good man, “tis all right, lass. Our bodies want to be joined. Nothing is more natural or telling. What you felt between my legs is my way of showing you how I feel. What your presence does to me.” I loved Errol there wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his girl, or his family.

Aileana came to the McRae when she was 8 years old, not remembering her past, which was 10 years ago. She works in the kitchen and has a decent life. The McRae is good to his people, feeling they are family.

She has been approached several times by a man and even though she's told him she did not want his attentions, he continues. He even claims he will marry her but she still isn't interested. One day he tries to force his attention on her

Catching and strongly passionate novel, with an interesting and entertaining historical background and with great characters.

Errol is arrogant, and I liked it (normally I don't). I liked it because it is very realistic for his age, he is twenty-three, and especially because his attitude hides also a strong sweetness, nobleness and affectionate character. His growth is very obvious throughout the story and this is a proof of the author's skills.

I can’t help being trite when I speak the truth so I’ll tell it like it is. This was my first book by Ms. Rand…but it will most definitely not be my last…I enjoyed this first one that much. Ms. Rand wrote plainly so that her vision of early life in Scotland was very clear. I literally felt I was walking in the heroine’s (Aileana’s) footsteps and experiencing her humiliations, joys and dreams. I was proud of her as she “came into her own” out of her fearful, solitary shell and stood up for hersel ...more

A book of love and some paranormal. I was of two minds on the review for this. I alternated between three and four stars. I gave it four. Why?

Well written, creative and imaginative! Good characters and great plots and suspense. Passion and romance. So why the problem? I felt it was too short of a book for all that was happening.
