Pros:
Nice size of book. Good easy to read font. Language not too complex. Nice layout with nice pictures and photos. The Safety section in each category was a good addition, so that children keep themselves safe when looking after the family pet.

Cons:
Language a bit complicated at times. Missing training steps would have children struggling to meet the criteria, could have been broken up smaller. Some methods within wouldn't work at all as they require the children to be stronger than the dogs or be patient enough to wait out bad training (e..g no jumping by ignoring).

Biggest con was the misinformation on needing to be the "pack leader" and associated myths (that dogs will become anxious if you're not leader, that you can't let dogs win at tug, that dogs become disobedient). Just completely unnecessary and sets the children up to fail in their relationship with dogs.

Neutral:
The book is pretty basic and doesn't go into a lot of details, but it is aimed at 7 year olds.
