I’m Reece. A month ago I died along with my two best friends in a car crash. Obviously, my death didn't last long. Since then, I hear voices and the nightmares – don’t even get me started. Hex is book one in the Saxton Academy Series by Mackenzie McGuire. This book was generously provided by the author for an honest review.

Reece is sixteen years old and lives the life of the elite in Los Angeles. She and her two best friends are on their way home when they are in a terrible car accident and that is when Reece dies, for the first time. The next month is a very difficult one for Reece dealing with the grief of loosing her friends and with the strange things going on in her head. She

HOLY GUACAMOLE!

This book was fantastic! It is marked as a lighter YA novel with old school YA tones and I have to say that is 100% accurate. It was very reminiscent of some of the first YA novels that turned me onto avid reading and I was feeling a little nostalgic. I absolutely loved it. HEX is a light, easy, fun read and I enjoyed myself. I could not put it down. I found myself flying threw the pages in desperate need to f

Holy witchy delicious goodness.

This book is being marketed as a lighter, more fun take on YA as a response to the darker themes that are predominant in YA these days. I’d have to say that they did a good job of making things fun. I blew through this book, simply because the characters and the story were just so fun, and easy to read. Don’t get me wrong, the characters find themselves in some very real danger, but the story doesn’t make you

Hex is a captivating novel, and had me hooked from the very first sentence. After suffering a tragedy, teenage Reece is sent to boarding school in Vermont. She and her two best friends were in a car accident, which resulted in her being dead for a few minutes, but her friends didn't make it. Images of the accident, and a strange voice flowing through her head, have kept her on edge. At the school, she almost immediately makes friends with two teen boys and the girl across the hall.

McGuire creates a rich world of magic, intrigue, and teenage hormones. Hex is a compelling story about a young woman coming into her own after being struck by tragedy. I'd recommend this to anyone who loves YA and magical worlds.

HEX is the first book in the Saxton Academy Series and we have something a little spooky on our hands.
Reece was an interesting character from the start; having survived a car crash that killed her two best friends Reece had survivors’ guilt and believed that she should have died too. She has started hearing voices and having nightmares, her mental health is taking a battering so when it’s suggested that she start afresh at an excl

Reece is a 16-year-old Californian. She is sent to Saxton Academy boarding school following the deaths of her two best friends in a car crash in which she also died but was mysteriously revived. We spend much of the novel trying to find out why Saxton Academy is so mysterious, which makes the story fairly plot-less for me.

I didn’t enjoy this novel much. For one, I found it was too slow for me, and I felt it was left unfinished. These are a few of my unresolved questions:
• Why did the car crash h

I liked this book and me giving it 4 stars says a lot because I'm normally not into book about witches.

I liked Reece and I could totally see how she had some problems with catching up, considering she goes to a new school, finds some new friends and some other more supernatural problems.

The only "problem" I had with it was that I thought the relationship between the character progressed kind of too fast an

It's been a while since I read a YA book, especially a paranormal one. When I started Hex, I knew it was supposed to be a lighter kind of YA, unlike the dark ones that have been dominating the industry right now, and it made me really curious to see how it was going to play out.

Hex is about Reece, a girl who following the death of her two best friends in a freak accident descends into depression and starts experiencing weird things. When sh

My honest review:

I love the cover!

3.5 stars!

Reece is being thrown for one loop after another. You can't help but feel bad for the girl. She lost her two best friends in an accident that almost took her life, too. Survivor's guilt is just the tip of the iceberg of this girl's problems. Life's become confusing and too much to take under the spotlight since her dad is a big time movie director. A new scene is exactly what she needs. At her new school, things seem too good to be true. She's already

Hex is a great read!! I loved the characters, setting and fast pace. McGuire does a great job of balancing the darker elements of tragedy and supernatural forces with humor, friendship and extremely likeable characters.

Suffering from the after effects of a car accident that killed her two best friends, Reece leaves her posh life in LA to make a fresh start at a school in Vermont. She is befriended by two boys, Card

Not Bad

Not bad but not great for me. It felt a little too underdeveloped for me. The story was definitely geared toward a YA audience and there were a lot of times that I found the MC to be annoying. I wanted the characters to develop and have a bit more dimension to them. That being said the romance happened quickly as it does in a lot of other books but for me I would have like to see actual feelings develop and interactions rather than a "special" connection that turns to love in an instant.

Hex by Mackenzie L McGuire

A young adult novel where magic and witches are a background but also teenaged life, emotional struggles and deep friendships play vital roles. It's a bit dark but also captivating.
It seems the norm now that high school juniors and senior are coffee addicts. Is this real life? I really liked that there was a strong message here that school, studying and learning are very important. And of course friendship, and acceptance. Reece is a nice outspoken girl, even when deali

I know I’m crazy. I hear voices, I black out and I see people that can’t possibly be there. Now granted I’ve been under a lot of stress. I was in a car crash where I died along with my two best friends. I came back, they didn’t. I miss them so much! My doctor and my parents decided it was time for a fresh start. So I traveled clear across the country to Vermont to Sexton Academy. I was use to a good life but this place is awesome and don’t get me started on the hot guys.

Good read for teens. Fun

I enjoyed Hex a lot. I'm not the biggest fan of witches, but this book pulled me in and makes me excited to find out what happens next.

I wish aspects of the witchcraft were explained a bit more and that the romance developed a little more naturally, we go from 0 to 60 extremely fast.

Other than those two things, Hex was a great, entertaining read. Can't wait to see what's next.

Loved! This fantastic duo penned a fun ya paranormal romance! I loved the mystery, intrigue, and supernatural that made up the plot. The characters were complex and interesting. The romance was full of tension and hot guys... hello!!!! Five glittery stars ✨

Good premise but very surface level

I found the first few chapters really interesting but felt that the love story moved too fast. I didn't feel any emotional connection between the characters and I left the novel feeling like not much happened in it.
