After the most recent in a stream of horrific blind dates, Addie's roommate suggests she see a professional matchmaker to try to find love, instead of allowing people who are less qualified to set her up. When she doesn't agree, her friend sets up a meeting without her knowledge. After meeting the woman, Addie decides to let her try to find someone for her, but she doesn't hold out much hope. Jake watched his best friend find love through the services of Matchrimony, but doesn't consider it himself. He's persuaded to contact matchmaker, Dr. Lachele, by his friend and his wife. When he meets his new bride, he's thrilled with the match. Will they be able to get past his obsession with his work to find love? Or will they give up too quickly?
Vikki’s Musings I recently read/listened to Married in Montana and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I stumbled across Meddling in Manhattan, I quickly downloaded it. I am really enjoying this delight series. It is light-hearted and very well written.
Addie Myers has the worst luck with blind dates and men. She’s a driven career woman and does not have time to work on a relationship. When her friend suggests she give Matchrimony a try, she does not want any part of it, but her sneaky friend invites her for a meal and she meets Dr. Lachele. The good doctor convinces her to let her find her a match.
Jake Roberts knows Dr. Lachele with Matchrimony can indeed work miracles, but can she find the right woman for him? After all, he’s a Science fiction writer and spends countless hours every day pounding away at his keyboard, barely taking time to eat. Of course, his best friend used her, and he is now happily married to the love of his life.
When Jake and Addie meet at the altar, they are immediately attracted to each other, but is that enough to build a marriage on? Once they return from their amazing honeymoon, will their obsessive work habits destroy what could be a match made in heaven?
What a great couple. They truly are perfect for each other. The chemistry between them sizzles from the first time they lay eyes on each other, and only burns hotter the more they are together. I loved their banter a great deal.
Addie is such a sweetheart of a character. She witty, sincere and loyal. She’s exactly right for the absent-minded Jake. She’s able to stand up to him and demand his attention. I loved her straightforward attitude.
Jake is truly obsessed, but such a lovable character. I loved his enthusiasm and dedication to making an honest effort to do what he needed to do to make his marriage work. He really becomes so willing to change.
The secondary characters are delightful. It was great getting to see a glimpse of Scott and Savannah, and the two sets of parents added greatly to this story, especially Jake’s mother.
I listened to the narration by Tiffany Williams, and she truly brings the characters to life. She gives each one a distinct voice, making it very easy to separate the characters from each other. I will certainly be looking for more audio books with Ms. Williams as the narrator.
If you enjoy a light-hearted romance with several humorous scenes and engaging characters, then you will love Meddling in Manhattan as much as I did. I highly recommend this wonderful story and great series. Happy reading!
Dr. Lachele really knows what she is doing. If Abby would just trust her. When Abby finally meets Dr. Lachele, she allows her to find the perfect husband. This is Jake's story. I love how each character is introduced in the first book and then followed in the next. It makes this series so addicting, Jake is a workaholic, who has not time to find a wife. After seeing his best friend matched to his perfect wife, Jake gives Dr. Lachele a try. There is a bit of reality in this couple with Jake's work habits. I enjoyed watching Abby and Jake find a happy medium. This series is so fun to listen to.
Tiffany Williams brings these characters to life. I can feel Abby's insecurities and anxiousness through the narration. Abby became more like a friend I was talking to. Tiffany Williams voice is like magic as she brings the story to life. I easily get lost in her narration.
Well, it was part of the series, so I read this one, too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Again, entertaining enough to read about couples who meet at the altar to marry. I had fun with the concept, but I didn't care as much for Jake and Addie's romance as I did for Scott and Savannah's in book one. I think the first couple ended up working through real issues more, whereas the main issue in this one was Jake's self-centeredness when he's consumed with his writing. He wanted a convenient bride, but he had to learn not to treat her as a hired cook and maid but as companion in life instead.
Still, entertaining if you want something light and fluffy. The next book in the series sounded stronger (Wishing in Wisconsin), maybe because it takes place in my home state, but it's not available as an ebook through Google Play. :(
I guess that's one way to slow down my recent obsession . . . lol.
I liked the western ones with the mail order brides but this series is in contemporary times and I could identify more with these books. The first book with Savannah and Scott had me laughing and wanting to choke Scott. This book is the story of Addie and Jake and had.situations they went through in their first year. Of Jake has a secret. I'd recommend this series and I'm off to the third book.
The first bk. Was hilarious but second series pretty much follow the same type of story of two people meeting for first time to get married at the alter, through a matchmaker business run by a psychologist with PhD. After reading first two stories you pretty much figure out the outcome after a few chapters into it. A book to read if you have nothing else to read.
I particularly love the character development in this one. The people seem very real to me. Except Dr. Michelle. Every book needs a touch of sweetly "out there".
This is a very different but very enjoyable story with two amazing and adorable characters with unique personality that will definitely have you laughing and ready for more.
This is the second book in this series. Even tho they follow some what the same story line, they are different. These books are fun love stories. No steamy sex. They really show how 2 people can be the same yet different.
After reading about his best friend Scott finding love at the altar. I couldn't wait to read Jake's story. Addie is the perfect match for Science fiction writer Jake!
I'm happy I kept with the series: Meddling in Manhattan was much better than the previous book. Both the H and the h were nice and relatable. I will certainly read the next book in the series.
love this series, Addie and Jake make a cute couple, Falling in love sight unseen . working out there problems along , would recommend this book and the others
I liked this book SO much better than the first one in the "At The Altar" series by author Kirsten Osbourne. This couple was endearing and I really enjoyed their story. And I love how the author weaves in the previous characters - I hope to find she does this through all of the books, at least as much as would be feasible and possible. (They should get together at some point for a reunion kind of thing! All the Matchrimony couples and munchkins! How awesome would that be?!?!)
Addie and Jake were perfect for each other. Dr. Lachele strikes it hot once again. Both parties are absorbed with work. While Jake gets a little more absorbed than a new wife would like, he didn't have any really annoying aspects to him. I thought that the challenges the author threw their way were easily overcome. Nothing happened that was so hopeless that they couldn't work through it and stay together.
I loved that Jake stood up to Addie's mother. That was so awesome!!! Jake: "Addie has the right to choose her own path, Mrs. Myers. You can't expect her to do everything you did, simply because you did it that way." Oh my gosh, can someone relay that to Scott from the first book in the series?!? LOL And then, for the slam dunk victory shot, Addies father, Billy, chimes in with "Carolyn? Let it go. She has the right to be a store owner or a stay at home mom. ...We raised her right, and now she gets to make her own decisions." What awesome support for Addie! Kudos!!!
I really enjoyed Addie's In-Laws - they were great! Jake's mom, Beverly, was a hoot with all of her rather inappropriate questions. "...Probably took you a few days to work up to sex, right?" (I do have to mention that, the sex in this book, was a bit more graphic than I'd like, and is the reason for only 4 stars.) I loved Beverly's snarky comment to Jennifer, the waitress at the diner, it was so awesomely done and nicely put her in her place! lol Now, Tom, he's pretty quiet, but he laid out one heck of a whopper when Jake asked him if they always had to do what they (Mom and/or Wife) wanted them to do, with "If we want to have peaceful marriages we do. I love you, dear. Yes, dear." Ahhh... it's good when Men understand! LOL
I'll finish my review with one last favorite quote from Addie to Scott (because it is SO awesome, I loved it!!!) "...You are without a doubt, the most Neanderthal-like man I've ever encountered." Perfection!
Looking forward to reading the next books in the series!
After watching his best friend getting his perfect bride with the help of Dr. Lashele, Jake decides to try it. He gets married to Abby, a New York girl that has her own business. I do think that they were a perfect match, but they needed more communication at the start. Because of their fights I was expecting more drama, but they solved their problems fairly fast.
This is a fun, fast read. I love the concept, meeting someone for the first time at your wedding. The characters are well rounded, beautifully written. The story moves quickly, perhaps too quickly. I would have liked to seen a little more. It felt like so much was left out, like the story skipped a few scenes. It was sometimes a jolt and I had to stop a few times to figure out what was happening.
This is the second in a series and includes some spoilers to the first book. Although it is a complete novel in itself with no cliffhangers, if you don’t want to know about the characters from the first book, I suggest you read them in order. There are also some hints about who might be next. I am looking forward to reading more of this series. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Kirsten Osbourne's Married in Montana (book 1) and was please to see that she had 3 more in this series. Meddling in Manhattan was just as good as the first one. I love that she writes with such a sense of humor and found myself laughing out loud several times. The characters are well-developed and very likable. I look forward to finishing this series and beginning another one.
I have listened to several audio books narrated by Tiffany Williams and always look forward to listening to another one. She has a beautiful voice and gives each character their own so its easy to know to whom each voice goes with.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance with a dash of humor.
I was given this audio book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This is the second book in Ms. Osbourne's AT THE ALTAR series, written in the contemporary romance genre. In this book, Jake, the best friend of Scott (from book #1), who is bit of a workaholic, seeks out the matchmaking skills of Dr. Lachele Simpson. He is matched with Addie, who is a workaholic also. Of course, they have their ups and downs, but who doesn't in their first few months of marriage. Come meet Jake and Addie, along with their parents, who are opinionated and protective in their own rights. Another Must Read By Kirsten Osbourne!
Love this story about Jake and Addie. They are both interesting people who do the meet at the later. He is a quiet person who is a writer and she is outgoing craft shop owner. They are awesome together at the beginning but the issues soon come. Savannah and Scott from the first book are friends with Jake. They all become friends. Addie turns to Savannah first when problems arise. The families are funny. Love the ups and downs in this book. Opposites really do attract.
Meddling in Manhattan (At the Altar Book 2) by Kirsten Osbourne
This is a great series, fun to read with just enough quirkiness to keep reading the series. I have read the first book in the series along with this book and books #3 and 4. The story is based on a matchmaker who is unique in herself. If you love romance, this is the book to read (along with the others in the series). Story line is great and keeps you turning the pages. Characters are wonderful and full of spunk. Recommend this highly!
Awesome read. This story gives hope to those that think they may never find love or get married. Two people who didn't believe in the process of meeting at the altar, and allowed someone else pick their life long partner.. So sweet to watch two people who are matched almost perfectly, come back from feeling like their trust was broken to truly feeling in love with their partner. Can't wait to read more of Kirsten Osbourne's work... I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I found this book extremely refreshing, it being a modern-day "mail order bride" story. The couple are matched by a woman with a PhD in psychology - who has purple hair! What also made it different was the bride wasn't pregnant, widowed, or broke! The groom didn't need a bride to help raise his orphaned children. I thought the characters were well developed.and had some interesting quirks. I have received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I thought this story was cute and the grammar and spelling were excellent ( so important these days). I only gave it 3 stars because I could not connect with the main characters . I loved Beverly though, she shines bright like rainbow. I think my issue with the main characters was the way they talked. It just didn't seem natural to me. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review .
Addie and Jake second couple to meet at the altar by a quirky matchmaker. Jake is also in the first story he was Scott’s best friend. Jake is a famous writer who when he writes forgets that time still moves around him. Matched with Addie another workaholic is perfect for Jake, but she has to get used to feeling she is being ignored by her hubby. I love the relationship Addie has with Jakes mom when they meet and his mom is so funny. I am enjoying this series
This series has started off very enjoyable. I do find this well written and I want to read more. I do feel you should read the first story first as it gives more flesh to this one. " Married in Montana " .... If you love romance ... This is a good place to start.
Matchrimony, an old concept (mail-order brides) made new. And is it working? Looks like couple #2 is ready to give it a shot...a woman with her own shop in Manattan, and a writer from Montana who is willing to relocate to Manhattan, where his very favorite library is! Secrets in the first week come out and cause harm, but is it irreparable?
