Moving On is one of those new adult books that will totally catch your interest. When I first read the blurb, learning that it's a roommate-rebound story, I immediately signed up for the ARC of this.

Fortunately, the author grant me an access!

I was really excited to read it, though I'm not expecting too much of the book. When it comes to new-to-me authors, I tend to give the benefit of the doubt. So even though the pace was slow in the first 7 or 8 chapters, I did my best to stay in the game.

Moving On is the third book of the College of Charleston series, it follows Chris and Bette. Chris is still hung up over Annie and Ryan so he decides to move out of the dorm. He finds himself bunking with Bette.

So when I requested this book, I definitely didn't realize it was part of the College of Charleston series. I've read the first two novels in the series courtesy of NetGalley, and really didn't like either one of them. In fact, I couldn't even finish the second one.

Somehow it will always find you again right where you left it in your heart. Imagine how surprised Bette and Chris are when they figure out they have become the most unwilling hostages of the heart. Yet disguised as a friendship/roommates. The one the most unaware is Chris because his best friend had taken his ex from under his nose the same way. No bro code there. Never once coming to him to explain if for no other reason but out of respect or the bro code. Even after he knew Chris was angry with him. Basically Chris’s feelings were hurt and he was very disappointed in his childhood friend.
So he ends up moving off campus since he lived 2 doors down from his ex-Annie which meant the chance of running into her and Ryan were greater. What he really couldn’t get out of his head was walking in on his best friend and his ex-having sex. That this had been going on the whole time he had been dating her is what got him the betrayal of the friend hurt more really.
When he moves he ends up in the best section of downtown Charleston. In the Victorian home area where the homes are at least 100 years old. He moves in with the most unlikely person you could ever see Chris with. Why? Well, Bette has a rather large tattoo that starts on her arm and runs along her shoulder and ends on her back.
She also has several piercings one on her mouth, her hair is a bright red and she enjoys vintage sexy 1950’s clothing. Oh let’s not forget the red lipstick. Although he was telling himself he was still in love with Annie and Bette was not his type. He had to admit she was Sexy as Hell! She show him around and agrees to have him as a roommate.
He starts a new job as a waiter and tries to get back into the swing of things at school but all the time trying to avoid Ryan, Annie, and friends. In the meantime Bette and he start becoming acquainted and start to like each other as people. He learns that she comes from a very judgmental family and background, mainly her mother, which he unfortunately gets to meet. He seems to become her defender in many ways after that bad experience in many ways. In how to give her support in not allowing others to degrade her because of her choices of style of dress, tats, or piercings. For she is a good person.
I totally enjoyed this books and the message if instills in how we need to show kindness, tolerance, and love to others. How we have to have respect for our friendships and respect boundaries and remember betrayal can cut, sometimes forever. Sometimes “I’m sorry can’t fix everything” if your actions say something else. This is a book all women should read or any person being bullied into being different. For it hurts your mind, body, and spirit of who you are too.

Straight-edge and protective Chris is furious and depressed. He just walked in on his lifelong best friend in bed with the woman he loves, and he isn't ready to forgive either one of them. Desperate to get out of the dorm to avoid awkward run-ins with his ex-girlfriend and ex-best friend, he needs to find a new place to live, and fast.

Tattooed and pierced Bette needs to find a roommate. Determined to renovate the old house left to her by her beloved deceased aunt, she needs help paying the rent. So when Chris responds to her flier, they immediately decide that living together is the best option for both of them.

As Chris works through his grief and devastation, Bette has her own demons to work past, including her judgmental parents and regrets about an old relationship. The two become friends first, but soon realize they might have a mutual attraction, only to realize that they both need to move on from their past in order to have a future together.

As a romance reader, I definitely prefer the "slow burn" to "insta-love," and this book is practically the definition of a slow burn.

I have a confession: when I read THE LIST, the first book in this series, I was not a fan of Chris. Don't get me wrong, I felt bad about his situation at the end of the book and I wanted him to have a happy ending, but I had found him to be a bit clingy and frustrating, and very wrong for Annie. However, I really enjoyed getting to know him better in MOVING ON and found myself cheering for him and Bette the whole time. I could really relate to watching Chris struggle to move on and be happy.

I also loved the complexity of Bette's character. She loves having tattoos, multiple piercings, and brightly dyed hair to express herself and her individuality - but she hates when people make assumptions about her because of it. After growing up with strict parents who make it very clear they don't approve of her choices, she longs to find friends and family who accept her for who she is. She's also set in her convictions not to have sex with anyone unless she is in a serious committed relationship, despite other characters' assumptions about her promiscuity based on her appearance.

This was a great read that I flew through within hours. I enjoyed seeing old characters, including Annie & Ryan and Cami & Liam in this book. I look forward to reading more from Kate L. Mary!

She is unapologetic about who she is, dedicated to her beliefs, and is a free spirit. She possesses qualities that are admirable and most of us struggle to achieve at any age which makes her character easy to like and relate to. She is beautiful inside and out and it shines throughout her story.

Kate L. Mary delivers a story with the trials and tribulations of first love, college, and finding yourself. Her characters have emotional depth and her story lines are interesting and heartfelt. This book begins with Chris moving out of the dorms to get away from his ex girlfriend who is now dating his best friend. He rents a room in an old house that belongs to Bette.

Bette is a strong woman who knows exactly what she wants out of life, except when it comes to men. She forms a fast friendship with Chris and finds herself confiding in him in a way that she has never done with anyone before.

I read The List and loved it. Then I missed No Regrets, because I had no idea when it came out. When I got Moving On I had no idea it was from this series so that was a nice surprise. And we have another WINNER! Loved this book through and through. The humor, the emotional turmoil of young adults, the overall expression of the story was amazing and I enjoyed it thoroughly

Poor Chris finally gets his happy ending and Bette gets the guy she deserves to have in her life. YAY!

Engaging from the very beginning to the very end. This story follows Chris (who in my opinion did behave a little bit immaturely) as he grows as a person. Bette as a character is fabulous!

I really enjoyed this book of finding love, finding yourself and knowing what you truly want. The ups and downs that Bette and Chris go through is something everyone goes through in their lives. This book was easy to relate to and even more easily to fall in love with.

You don't need to read the first two books in the series to understand this book and the characters. I liked Chris, he was sweet and really accepting of Bette for who she was. I loved Bette. She was sassy and knew exactly who she was. I was disappointed it took so long for her to realize that Blake wasn't the one for her and that Chris was. I DNF at 45%. I couldn't connect to the story or the characters. That could be that it was a #3 in a series and I haven't read any of the previous versions? I found the character development shallow and the romance slow to develop. It might be for some, but not for me.
