This is a story that I normally wouldn’t choose to read. It’s part of the Audley Memorial series and I’ve been working my way through them.

Annie was in a dying marriage and Max was engaged to a “suitable” woman when they met a year ago. Overwhelmed by the sudden connection, they succumbed briefly before parting forever.

A year later and Annie is a widow with a baby daughter. Max is single, his fiancée having married another man.
