I've been mesmerised by reading Andrea's Laskar Pelangi 8 years ago. Since then, never missed to read any of his books.

I may now declare that Andrea is my favourite fiction author, and this book of his, Ayah did not fail to deliver his literary magic with words.

Andrea is the few author to make any common life of a town folk in a deserted island to be heroic in the most entertaining way possible.

Having good laugh on some pages and goosebumps on the last pages.
Sabari is the man who literally has incredible level of patience throughout his life that sometimes I wonder if a man like him truly exists. But then his patience towards Marlena is what empowers this book. Marlena as someone who's quite annoying throughout the book however turned out as the one who makes us love her character in the end. And in my opinion, Zorro/Amiru, Sabari's son in the end of the book has inspired me or maybe e

"You know someone is special to you when you're literally captivated by them in even the little moments. The slightest thing they say or do, is like watching the universe unfold. This book was pretty awesome. Story about the man and his love. And teached me, how love can be 'a strong power' in poor condition and poor live. It will give big support for father or in Bahasa Indonesia we called 'Ayah', like as this book's title, Ayah do something more than his power just becouse he has love, big love to his son and his woman.

I put high expectation on Hirata and this book as what he did give me for Rainbow Troops. For me, personally, the plot is way too long and going round and round - not a page turner at all. It got me so bored that I had to gave myself a little push to finish it. But for you who wants a light and a non-pressure sort of book, this might be for you.

It's been ages not to read his masterpiece... but damn I still enjoy every bit of the story. Laughing out loud then bursting in tears in seconds. Fall in hate then fall in love with a character *I don't wanna mention the name*. I hate Andrea Hirata! X'(

This book has reminded me a lot about many things, esepecially about my Father. This book also has influenced me in many ways. A truly endearing story. Recommended for everyone who wants to know about the beauty of a Father's love.

What fascinate me the most is the chosen words. The language still the same, Indonesia, but the depiction of silly, blunt, mesmerizing words that really hit me in the sweet spot but like a truck. This melodramatic overbearing fictional father scars me and shame me for how I really am, deep inside. The way the comedic timing just diabolical and effective in delivering a slice of life of humble story without trying too hard. A cesspool maelstrom of love from sabari toward his crush just ... heartb ...more

this is my favorite book from Andrea Hirata's work (even though i haven't read all of his work).
it is very-very simple and naive, it slaps us effortlessly.
a humanistic story about a simple love from a loving father.
had a really-really good time reading it,
will definitely read it again in the future.

For me this book is so heartwarming. I don't know that someone could love someone else that much. Not only the main character, but also the other character such as the son, the best friend, and so on.

This book has given me a clear feeling of love and loving. I like Andrea's writing, it seems like he's got that Rainbow-Troops-vibe all over again: making (an actually) sad story into series of sentences which makes can't help but smile when reading.

Wonderfully pathetic, sad and touching at the same time. Been hooked since the first page, dunno why I didn’t read it right after i bought it. One thing for sure, Andrea hasn’t lost his magic in writing something like this.

Outstanding, heart-warming, touching stories about a love of a father and importance of family. The storyline could get you lost but i think that's where the fun is! Why? Cause it got the readers to bear in mind what happened in the previous chapters and connects it with the currently read chapter.

It is funny story about a (young) man
My best part was when the young boy tried to help his love by changing small note before having math exam.

Andrea Hirata always makes a reader like me feel grateful. Because the character in the story he told was simple, kind, a fighter to his/her life.
