Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Rate this book
Panty and Stocking are cute but highly dangerous angels, booted out of Heaven for wrath, sloth, lust, envy, avarice and gluttony (at least pride wasn't high on their list). Now residing among the sinners of Daten City, the angels try to earn their way back into grace by exorcising evil at the behest of their questionable preacher boss, the Afro-bedecked Garterbelt

Dirty and foulmouthed. just like the show. The art is great, humor also, and the feeling from the show simply shines through. One blemish would simply be that the storys are to short and have no impact on the overall plot.

And the demons are underrepresented.

All in all great and for the fans of the show a must.

I really love The Panty & Stocking anime, so I was excited to at least give this a shot. Unfortunately, it fell far short of my expectations.

I don't think this manga is *too* bad, it does get a decent amount of Panty & Stocking correct, at least when it comes to the characters, the art, and the humor. I could see most, if not all, of these scenarios working great in the anime. Hell, maybe they'll even us some of these stories in the upcoming second season.

But where this manga incredibly falls apart is with the pacing. There's only nine chapters, and each one goes by so fast that by the time you finish it, it feels as though nothing has happened at all. But what makes this really egregious is how poorly implemented the ghosts are. They get mentioned a few times throughout the chapter, and then get killed in one page; there's virtually no buildup or payoff, just a single page, only a few panels, of the ghost getting killed and that's it. I didn't mind it for the first chapter, but as it continued to do this throughout the whole manga, I found myself getting more irritated, to the point that I just couldn't get into the story at all anymore. Thankfully the comedy was there, otherwise, I might have put this down.

Honestly, I'd rather give this a two and a half out of five, I think that's a more fitting score showcasing how I feel about this manga. But since Goodreads limits ratings to full stars only, I'll have to settle for a two, because it's closer to a two than a three to me.

Overall, you might get a kick out of this if you like Panty & Stocking like I do, but it's the same kind of kick you'd get reading any fan comic. As an official piece of P&S media, it's mostly just whatever. It doesn't get anywhere near as great as the anime does.

Fortunately, there is no accounting for taste, and I am assured that this vulgarity will appeal to someone. --TAGRO

There have more or less always been some kind of cuteish manga and/or manga that tries to push the lines of good taste to shock the fans as best they can. This book fits that kind of idea of if we didn't offend everyone at least once in this series then we did something wrong but that's not the major issue per say (Just look at the name of the title) but rather how these nine new tales of fallen angels and their corrupt handler are not particularly interesting and fast paced so they can try to fit as much vulgarity they could in the limited page span. All in all I was not particularly inspired to read more then a little at a time as I continued wondering how much longer I have left and what new thing will they try to shock me with next time?

Another thing I found strange which I don't know if it is a Kindle type of thing is the book seems to be read from left to right per a typical English book while the actual manga is read like a typical Japanese style of narration. I found myself more than once turning the pages the wrong way thanks to the strange lack of reading order and page order. Well at least the art was nice to look at but not enough for me to really like the book.

not done with it yet but imma go ahead and give my review. i give it a 5 stars for the art (90% of the time seeing gaterbelt's ass and him and general was gross) but that story is a straight 0 stars. the writing for this book is AWFUL and im literally only reading it cause im using the art style for my comic and all that. BYE.

Out there and raunchy just like the anime. I wish we had a season 2 or the manga had covered more of the story after the anime instead of this whole new story with the same characters.

This manga is exactly like the anime of the same name. It is vulgar to read at times, adorable to look at, and simply is overall unique when in comparison to traditional manga styles. To those who do not know of the anime, Panty & Stocking are Angels who are stuck in Daten City eliminating beings called Ghosts until they have earned their way back into heaven. Both characters, as the description hints at, are more human than they are Angel with how blunt they are with their desires. The pace of the manga is good for how short it is, though to readers who do not know of the anime some of the characters at the very end of the manga might come off as random. They matter in the anime, so remember them if you decide to watch the show.

As a whole this manga adds some life for fans who want to buy more merchandise for the series. It is short, adorable, blunt, and overall a hilarious experience in my opinion. It serves as a wonderful oneshot, and works good as a standalone on anyone's shelf.

A strangely entertaining and profane manga.

I enjoyed the space ship chapter - Chapter #5: Captain Garterbelt, panic! Science Officer Panty, try to look thoughtful! I'm going to press these buttons for no particular reason... and then turn around!

Surprisingly, this manga was vulgar and showed what should've normally been covered up.
Basically panty goes around doing it with everybody, yes, including girls
And stocking is I'm pretty sure a lesbian

I thought it'd be a cute manga, because I judged it by the cover
But I was wrong......

A tiny, vulgar book that delivers pretty good entertainment. Oh, and the art is pretty too.
