* I received a free copy from the author for an honest and unbiased review *

This book held my attention less when compared to the first 2 books in the series while it kind of opened my eyes on valuing what I have right now in my life. At the same time, I loved the interactions among the characters.

The book started off at a point a bit later than where it ended in the second book. It took few pages to get confusion out of the way and to start getting reacquainted with the characters and the situa

Join Regina Shen as the exiting, great, daring, and dangerous adventure continues in book three of the Regina Shen Series, Defiance. Regina is still on the run and continues to elude capture from the patrol-women who want her for her DNA in hopes to reverse a worldwide fertility catastrophe, as they think Regina’s genes are the key to saving the world. Having previously taken and tested Regina’s sister, Colleen, but found her DNA lacking, the patrol-women now want Regina more than ever. But Regi ...more

The further I get into this story the more I grow connected with the character and the storyline. Regina continues to amaze me with her strength. She is a true leader. I appreciate the relationship between Ester and Regina, even if it is really one-sided. I do agree with another reader on the fact that I found Ester at times to be more of a hinder than help. Yet I could see why Regina let Ester come along as in a way she was watching over her and protecting her like a sister as she couldn't do t ...more

In the third installment of author Lance Erlick’s Regina Shen series, which commences around two months after its predecessor Vigilance began, in the third book’s case on July 20 in the year 298 After Community Movement in the Virginia mountains, the series’ titular protagonist continues to elude Department of Antiquities agent Joanne Demarco, with the tertiary installment like its predecessors alternating between first-person sections of chapters narrated by Regina herself, and third-person exc ...more

I received a free ecopy of this book for an honest review.

Defiance is the third book in the Regina Shen series. I had read the first 2 books, Resilience and Vigilance, and had stated in my review that I was looking forward to reading the next book in the series (I didn’t know it was finished!) and Lance Erlick was kind enough to send me a copy.

I like Lance Erlick’s writing style. It’s descriptive enough that I can picture what’s going on but not so detailed that I skip over paragraphs, which I t

Lance Erlick in his new book, “Regina Shen: Defiance” Book Three in the Regina Shen series published by Finlee Augare Books continues the adventure with Regina Shen.

From the back cover: Abrupt climate change melted ice caps, flooded coasts, and expanded deserts. Outcast Regina Shen is a fugitive the World Federation believes has DNA that can stop human extinction. Rival Federation agents fight over capturing Regina to gain power amidst turmoil over who will become the new World Premier. Regina h

It has been two months since we left Regina. She is still on the run from DeMarco and Volpe. She has been in hiding with an outcast group but it’s time for her to head to Alaska to save Colleen. There are also rumors of a vault that has genetic samples that may stop the fertility crisis without Regina becoming a lab rat. If only Regina and Ester make it to the vault and solve the puzzle before getting caught or locking in the vault.

As I read Defiance I didn’t think it really flowed as well as th

Regina Shen: Defiance is book three in a YA SciFi series by Lance Erlick. If you haven't read book one Regina Shen: Resilience or book two Regina Shen: Vigilance, I highly suggest you do before reading Defiance. It's a great story regardless, but you'll have to do a lot of catching up.

Book three opens with Regina's time hiding in local mountains with an outcast group coming to an end. Her nemesis Demarco and Demarco's rival Volpe are closing in. The pressure from the government to capture her is

( I received this book free from the author in exchange for my honest review )

There was disconnect for me when I first started reading this third instalment. It was like I was tossed into a show already in progress but said show was a tie into something else that I had missed altogether. So for a few pages there I was left confused and frustrated, the flow was off, the pacing weird and it didn't feel like writing I was used to. In saying that, it did shift back to the old ways, and brighten up t

Regina Shen: Defiance is the third book the in the Regina Shen series by Lance Erlick. This series must be read in order to fully understand the storyline. These are not standalone books.

In this book Regina Shen has special DNA. This DNA is believed by the federation to reverse a global fertility collapse. In this society there are no boys. Science has found a way to have children just using female DNA (which in my opinion is getting a little close to the LGBT for my taste but it does explain in

`Defiance` is book three in the Regina Shen series, written by Lance Erlick. Book three begins in the year 298 ACM. The theme is for Regina Shen to safely get her sister from Alaska.

The sun is setting over the beautiful, green mountainside. Temperatures are dropping from a humid 100*. As the Marginals climbed, they failed to rescue her sister from the Federation. A drone buzzed above the tree canopy, waiting for their appearance on their scanners. This part especially reminds me of "Hunger Gam

Book three in this series reveals ‘working stiffs’, outcasts, truckers and mountain women who risk authorities to help Regina and Ester escape from the Antiquities factions who are desperate to capture Regina. Regina’s primary concern is still rescuing her sister, Colleen who has been captured again. Ester longs to settle down with Regina but that is not possible as long as Regina is on the run. So Ester continues to tag along.

There are three separate inspectors in competition to get Regina. The

I'm really hoping that all of this ends well. Regina is on the run again, with Ester. To be honest, I understand Regina feels responsible for Ester and loves her in her own way, but I would've left Ester somewhere safe. She's to needy and can't understand how Regina works or why and how she knows what she knows. I feel like she's weighing her down. The biggest shocker of the story was the vaults, and I won't get too in detail with that, but I just got excited about them. I'm really starting to w ...more

Book three starts off essentially where book two ends. Time has passed, but I did not feel like there was anything that was missed or that we weren’t filled in on.

In Defiance, Regina is still on the run and Coarse Face is still after her. Only this time, she also has the wrath of Volpe on her.

A lot of realizations are made during this part of the story and I as we get closer to the last book in the series, I’m curious as to what the end really will be. (Of course, we were left with a cliff hange

This book can be read as a standalone, but is much better in the series. I really liked the nicknames and aliases used in this book. Regina's mom Zola comes into play in this book too and it's nice to follow up on characters from past books.

If I were asked to describe this book in 1 word I would say: traveling. While I won't give away where she is leaving Virginia to go to, I will say she's going to pass through Kentucky! They also discuss how the weather has changed the environment in places al

DISCLAIMER: I received a copy of this book in exchange fore honest review, for a blog tour.

Adventures continue, and Regina is willingly giving a sample of her DNA to a private laboratory, providing it for a surrogate-mother. Gotta feel bad for Regina, because she kind of wants to have her daughter herself, but its not really possible. Just when everything appears to turn out for the better, it starts to go downhill again. In complete honesty, a few details seemed a bit shady to me and I was not

This third book in the series takes Regina far from the swamps outside the wall and on a journey to the north west to find her recaptured sister. Along the way she meets many new allies, some who may potentially have other motives. And she learns new things about the Chief Inspector that makes her wonder whose side she is really on...
Defiance is a great addition to the series and is filled with lots of action and adventure, and develops the characters well. Looking forward to the 4th book!

Really good. I need to go back and read these in order. I bet they will be even better in order! I also love how there are lists in the back of all the people and terms used. It really helps to keep everything straight (Especially when you read out of order)
