Black Clover vol. 1 is a promising start of a new fantasy adventure boy's manga series!

I admit the story has pretty much your typical boy's manga setting:

In a world (based mostly on the 18th or 19th century Europe) where everyone possesses magical talents to different degrees and the strongest mages are given knighthood to defend their kingdom, two orphaned boys from the outskirt village vow to join the rank of knights and eventually become the legendary Magic King.

The orphaned boys are friends

I know a lot of other reviews made fun of this little bit but I’m going to do so as well. One of the characters is Marilyn Manson! Seriously, how do you look at this guy and not hear the guitar riff from The Beautiful People playing?

What’s it about?
There’s this boy named Asta, he lives in a world where everybody does magic stuff and wants to become the next wizard king! The problem is that he has a lack of magical abilities but he may still have hope.

Pros:
The story is pretty interesting.

This is a review of volumes 1-2 which I read together back to back. See the plot section for my thoughts on the individual volumes.

Asta and Yuno grew up together, abandoned at the same church. They both determined to become Magic Knights... Yuno's abilities soon grew to genius levels of power and control while Asta didn't show even a spark of magic and made up for it by training hard physically. It became apparent to bot

I love the story and characters so mutch and I cant wait to read more about them. Asta is my ambition to keep staying positive no mather what gets thrown in your face and this story has so mut

Super interesting premise that had me at the get-go. It would be a 5 star issue, but I’m not entirely sold on the supporting cast and I love my manga to have kick-ass secondary characters.

I went into this, thinking it would probably be like Soul Eater. It's not really, but I still quite enjoy it.

Asta is a really fun and relatable character that has no magic in a land where magic is everything. His goal in life is to become the Wizard King - a goal that everyone thinks he will never accomplish. He may not have full-on magic like everyone else, but he makes up for it in heart, strength, and the fact that he never gives up on anyone.

On the other hand, Asta's best friend - Yuno -

what the heck is wrong with this manga? -_-
it's not only a TYPICAL shounin manga with absolutely nothing new but also the characters are so shallow ,not well developed at all. it feels so unoriginal
maybe the author is a fan of naruto/bleach/fairy tail -maybe more- so he just decided to make something in the same style and didn't do so well .
I read the available 129 chapters :\
the star is just for being magic-related story

I really really enjoyed this first volume!!!! The art is very good and even though the story is compared to naruto i think that the series has its own unique characteristics. Can Asta become the wizard king even though he cannot use magic?

It improves as it goes along, but this one is really choking on shonen cliches. Feels like it was created by committee, throwing together elements from other series to create something that's marketable. You really have to be in the mood for shonen for this one.

Its ok but i think the whole, young kid with limited powers fighting his way through the world has been done to death. I feel like there are better volumes out there.

I kinda read this entire manga (all current volumes) But I feel like it would really clutter my profile so I'm just gonna review the whole thing right here and i'll do it in terms of arcs because I feel like I'd be easier to understand.

so for starters this manga is the popcorn of shounen jump.it's literally everything you love about the genre jumbled together with varying degrees of success.the plot is simple and understandable and the pacing is really fast making it a page turner.I feel that it

People make fun of Black Clover because its basically took every stereotypical aspect of modern fantasy manga and blend it into one series. But in my read on it, its not actually not bad as people tell me.

I can explain the concept of Black Clover on one of the two currently greatest fantasy series ever made: Song of ice and Fire and Wheel of time.

SoIaF basically set on a hyper realistic world were the stereotype plot and progression is almost non existing and its grounded of reality; the main du

This is packed with just about every element you can imagine from shounen: magic users, guilds, battle spells, spell books, weird odd characters, sexy puns and an immature self-confidant main character. Asta wants to become the Wizard King but he has no magic so he's trained his body with physical strength. This first volume sees him join the lowest guild filled with misfits, receive the magic of "anti-magic" and go on his first mission. We can see a lot of influence from other manga, especially ...more

Asta is annoying as a protagonist, but the series itself seems to have some generic promise.

The story begins with a boy trying to seduce a nun really forcefully. Right off the bat we get pedophilic antichristian deviance. Said boy begins as someone with no superpowers in a world where everyone can use magic. Unlike My Hero Academia which begins in a similar way, Asta is doing nothing to gain the reader’s sympathy. He is an obnoxious loudmouth with no redeeming qualities. He had the chance to stand out by training in martial arts instead of relying on magic, but nah, he still relies on ...more

Basically what would happen if Fairy Tail, One Piece Naruto and My Hero Academia had a baby and for some reason decided to name it Black Clover.

A white haired kid named Asta lives in a world where everybody has magical powers. Problem is, he doesn't have any.
He is, however, granted the power of anti-magic, meaning that he can nullify and reflect other people's magic.

Hmmm…Let’s see. It’s eerily similar to Fairy Tale in that it’s about a group of young people who join a club, school, association, WHATEVER and use magic to defeat peeps. So, my problem with this is that it uses the same formula as most other recent Shonen at a slower pace AND the struggle we are told is never experienced except once.

The main character is supposed to be a Rock Lee mirror, “his magic gift is perseverance’ type of thing. We hardly see that and it’s in conflict that is extremely

I loved this book a lot, it combines fantasy magic and a main character who isn't good at what he wants to be. The development of the characters and world are done really well. This is a very unique and original world where magic is a required skill, almost like a 6th scent it's an amazing way to portray magic in a book. I love the way the author made the character be bad at magic but overcome it and become one of the best at it. This is a great story and I would highly recommend it to Naruto fa ...more

I realise that I love to read mangas during a reading slump. It helps me to break out and begin to love reading again.
Black clover is such a fun manga, and the first book was an excellent start to Asta’s epic journey out of Hage village.
I have seen and enjoyed the majority of the anime before reading this, but to see them as they started in manga form makes me really happy.
Overall, a fun and enjoyable easy 5 star read.

A genuinely funny manga with, what I think is, very cool and detailed art work. It reminds me of the nice sketchiness of the Seven Deadly Sins mangas, which can only be a good thing. The main character is super likeable and the story surrounding grimoires, mages and magic ticks all the boxes for me. Hopefully volume 2 is just as good!

Asta is basically Naruto on too much caffeine and much, much louder. And Yuno is basically Sasuke after being given a chill pill. I'm not completely mad at it, though.

Typical Shonen manga, but its pretty entertaining and funny. Will it hold up over multiple volumes? I'm not quite sure considering it is fairly generic, but who knows? I am willing to find out.

One of the benefits of having a subscription to Viz's Shounen Jump is that I sometimes read chapters from the other series I don't necessarily follow (it's World Trigger and Bleach for me!). Black Clover has been one of them - never really hooking me since I pretty much picked it up fairly far along. Now, with this first volume, I have a chance to get to know the story from the beginning and I was surprised - it's act

It's like a mix of Blue Exorcist and Fairy Tail with a bunch of characters from My Hero Academia and Haikyu!!. That's the best way to describe my first impression.

Magic is everywhere in the world and everyone can use it to different degrees. The strongest is the Wizard King. After him, it's the captains of the 9 Magic Knight Squads. Then it's anyone in those squads. After that, it trickles down to mediocre and new magic users. At the bottom of this hierarchy is Asta, the main character, who has
