Calla's a slave working at a hostel on a space station that has been captured in a war. She's cleaning one of the rooms and Seth is in there. They get together if you know what I mean, but she tells him she's married after they finish because if she's caught by the owner she'll be sold to a pimp for a prostitute at a mining facility who don't live long. Seth doesn't know why he's so attracted to her although with the quicky nature of their fling he didn't get more than a cursory look at her. Calla's fellow slave since birth is sold so Calla escapes to find him disguising herself so that Seth things she looks like Calla but not quite. She lies to him, he hides things from her. Can they get beyond that?

I loved Calla, after some extremely bitchy heroines it's nice to have one who enjoys the good things and doesn't fight them for no good reason. She also doesn't 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th guess herself which is nice. I loved the ending. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

Calla was born and raised a slave, Seth is an alien whose species is taking over the planet. It's nothing personal, he's just a soldier fighting against the current Empire.

One day she is cleaning up his room when he catches her, thinking she is spying. They both end up having some sort of inexplicable lust and have a one-encounter-stand. Then Calla kinda freaks that she is going to be found out by her master (the owner of the inn she works at) and to escape tells Seth she is married to a man who is actually her best friend and "brother."

Then Calla's brother is sold off-planet and to find and rescue him she must escape her enslavement and get on a spaceship. Her and her brothel worker friend come up with the idea to contract Calla out as a pleasure-worker to one man who keeps asking for girls who look like Calla at the pleasure house. Yup, that's Seth (who can't seem to get Calla out of his mind). They dress her all up and she somehow convinces him that she is not Calla (even though he recognizes her) and they leave with her on a 6-month contract.

When they make it to a mining asteroid Calla steals Seth's ship along with the miner's wife and children who are abused horribly by the miner. Calla feels really bad leaving Seth there, but she has to rescue these people and still find her brother.

Eventually making it to another planet they sell the ship and use the proceeds to move to another planet and start up a hostel. The whole "finding the brother" thing is apparently dropped.

Seth eventually makes it off the asteroid and comes after her. It would seem that despite the fact she is not alien, she is his true life-mate and he can't go on without her.

"I want you to forget all your other clients, every other man in your life, and think of only me. You're mine, and at this moment I want to be in you more than I've ever wanted anything in my entire life. Do you want me?"

~Seth

O.O take a number sister...

So Price of Pleasure is yet another surprise goodie that has been hanging out on my kindle for far too long. I'm not a sci-fi kind of girl but I gave it a go and I am sooooo glad that I did. It wasn't perfect, there some editing issues and maybe because it's just not my "world", I did get lost a bit in the world building, the who and the where and the how etc. So the "mission" part of the story was more secondary for me. It was the romance and this band of soldiers, warriors, yes yes I loved them all! No one was purple or had the ability to sprout tales or anything so I was good to go.

Seth, commander of this specific group is bitchy and cranky oh and never fully sexually satisfied. It's kind of a burden he and his kind must deal with in regards to women that are of another race or species. That doesn't keep them from trying though and try they do! All. The. Time. A quick romp with designated "pleasure workers" usually does the trick, for awhile at least but it was a frantic, primal experience with a mere slave girl named Calla that he can't get out of his mind.

Calla wasn't exactly "born", more like manufactured along with Jesse who she sees as her brother. They're both slaves to a greedy and abusive mistress who don't even view them as people, they're below regular, standard society. Even though Calla was just as drawn to Seth as he was her, if her owner ever found out, she would be killed. In a turn of events, Jesse is sent away which leaves Calla in a state of panic and in desperate need to escape and find him herself. Calla has a friend who is employed as a pleasure worker and the two hatch a plot to help Calla escape and this is when things got REALLY interesting.

Off the charts chemistry and just the right amount of conflict between the main characters. Oh oh!! Their game of who is the strongest willed....swoon, drool, swoon some more. There is a lot of sex, but it fit so well in the story that it simply worked and it was also used to "turn the tides" in some cases. There was one scene in particular where he wanted her pride hurt as his was and so he used a sex act to lash out.

Calla is a strong heroine and didn't develop a strong case of "stupid" once she caught the guys eye. Seth is a delicious lead male, a perfect blend of strength, alpha without being a total ass, vulnerability and just all around swoon worthy. I look forward to continuing this series!

I actually didn’t mind this one. And trust me when I say that it took over 431 samples and two paid for failed attempts to get to this book. It’s been awhile so maybe there’s still hope for 2020 that I’ll make my book read goal.

The story was a well balance story that didn’t over use the ideal Alpha male model with beating chests and beating the h to punish her for nothing. Lucky, that didn’t happen here.

What didn’t work, some of the sex scenes lacked. While normally they might have been great to those new readers, maybe the time I spent reading erotica and hentai (wink) has dulled me somewhat to the intimacy of characters. It could just be an illness of my own doing.

Also, another round of beta and proofreaders could have help. There wasn’t an overly abundance of errors, the ones I caught were really obvious because they made no sense. See my notes for those two lines.

Lastly, the epilog did not close this story up. It contained a scene with Jess. What happened to Seth and Calla? What happens with Jax and the chick who’d killed her husband? The end was left with little resolve. The other two books that was indicated as a part of this series at the back of the book did not have Jess or Jax in them but different characters. In essence, you’re left with out a satisfying conclusion to this story.

3 stars for an okay read.

The sex in this book was hot and there was plenty of it.

However I would have liked to have had more background on the MC Seth, and more world building. The stations sounded interesting but weren't explored nearly enough, IMO!

At times it seemed the only thing that was happening in the story was the sex. Again, I would have enjoyed this story more if the plot and characters had been a little more fleshed!

I really liked the plot of this story. It went a little fast for me and I wished more details were given but I did enjoy this. The chemistry between the Seth and Calla was good n the secondary characters were good as well. I connected just fine. Excited to read the next one to see what happens next.

Oh I've been reading this the whole afternoon and A lot of question are swimming in my head right now? Calla's dead? Seth also dead? I thought they survived? I'm so confused at the ending....

DNF. Still giving it a couple stars because it had potential. I truly believe it could have been fascinating. The bones of a really interesting sci-fi romance are there. You get hints about this concept of the mass production of humans grown for the slave trade. You get hints about a race of people who can only truly be "satisfied" sexually and reproduce if they are genetic "life mates" with their partner. You get hints of a class system where prostitution is not only protected by a guild but that guild is more powerful than any one government.

But, in the end it's only hints.

The world building isn't there. It devolves into basically a story about two people flying through space having sex...a lot. Now, if that is what you are looking for then I'd say go for it! It just didn't hold my attention.

Also, just a note. If your are looking at this Joanna Wylde novel because you really like her Reapers Series, this is NOT that. I looked for more by Ms. Wylde because I Iiked Reapers MC but it seems this was earlier in her career when she hadn't quite developed her voice or maybe it's that this is a different publisher but either way, not the same. Just a heads up.

Well that was a colossal disappointment. I bought the first two books in this sci-fi series sight unseen.
I should’ve paid attention to the year of publication. Her motorcycle club series from c. 2013 is well-written and also well-crafted at the story level. Those books are keepers. But this sci-fi series is from 2002. And it was published with Ellora’s Cave, vs Penguin for the MC series. So the difference could be a matter of more serious editing with Penguin. But most likely it’s about her improvement as a writer over the course of those ten years.

I wasn’t sure about this book at first, reading about who I thought was the hero having sex with a woman who obviously wasn’t the heroine. And then the actual hero and heroine had sex bare minutes after meeting. And THEN the hero had sex with other women, including the heroine’s friend who happened to be a ‘pleasure worker’ (I could have done without that part of the story, thanks). Put that way, the story/romance does sound horrible 😂, but the story did get significantly better, I quite liked the heroine’s character and in the end it all made sense.

Pretty wild concept!

Written in third person, pretty advantageous considering the abundance of unknowns throughout the story.

Otherworldly, in the literal sense. A lot of open-endedness, which isn't something I'm too familiar with and not necessarily to my liking. Especially in the romance genre. Enjoyed the overview of the entire cast, it fit well with the writing style. Could use a little more brushing up on, wouldn't hurt a bit, I don't think. Might look into reading the rest of this series.

I didn't really know what to expect going into this book but I surprisingly loved it. The synopsis had me hooked from the first few sentences.

A slave desperate for freedom.

A warlord incapable of love.

I mean what's not to like:
Sci-Fi Romance-Check!
Amazing Plot-Check!
Hot Aliens-Check!
Erotica-Check!

Seriously the first chapter had me not wanting to put this book down for anything. I loved the sci-fi world that the author built. It was very thought out and written very well. I loved the different types of species and the hot alien warriors. Of course my favorite alpha warrior is the sexy mouth watering commander Seth. There are also slaves. Calla, our heroine, is one of these slaves working on one of the space stations. It just so happens her space station is in the middle of a take over and caught in the war, so there are Saurellian warriors on board staying in the hostel she works at.

Seth and Calla's relationship wasn't sweet and certainly not easy. From the moment they met each other (he catches her in his room cleaning and then continues to ravish her) they had an instant pull and attraction toward each other, which is odd for Seth because he is a Saurellian male. See, the thing is, Saurellian males can only be sexually sated by a Saurellian female... and since there not enough Saurellian females to go around on his planet, the males who don't mate at a young age never will, so they are sent to be warriors. This makes the Saurellian warriors able to have sex over, and over, and over, and over, and over again and never truly be satisfied because the women they are with aren't Saurellian. However with Calla, Seth finds himself fulfilled for the first time.. ever.

After their first time together Seth demands to see Calla again but she tells him she is married so that he will leave her alone so she won't get caught having sex by her owner. If caught, her owner or master, can kill her or sale her to a pimp. So they go their separate ways. However, Seth seems to be obsessed with her and can't get her face or body out of his head. He sleeps with many woman in the hostel resembling Calla in appearance but he still can't shake her from his mind.

After Calla's brother is sold off the space station she comes up with a plan to get off the station, alive, so she can find her brother and save him from his new owners. To do this she joins the hostel as a pleasure worker with the help of a good friend and signs into a contract with a warrior to get off the station. She is to travel with him and "pleasure" him when he wants her. The warrior she gets contracted with.... is Seth. He doesn't realize it's Calla but he thinks the pleasure worker looks like her, so he takes her up on the contract. This is where their story and the plot take off....

The plot was paced well and flowed naturally. I couldn't get enough of the depth and description of the world and characters the author created. Seth and Calla were explosive together and I couldn't get enough of their story. I loved all the characters and can't wait to read the next book in the series. These Saurellian warriors are just yummy! If you like sci-fi romance then definitely give this one a go, you'll eat it up!

I'm not that much into the Science Fiction genre, but this book was awesome!

Calla was born into slavery and now works in a hostel. She enters a room to change the linens, tidy the room, etc. when someone grabs her from behind and demands to know who she is. While he is confirming her identity, he begins to touch her in places that make her want more. He gives it to her. He tells her he wants more from her later and she panics. She, off the top of her head, tells him that she is married and that this cannot happen again. He tells her to get out and she runs off.

Seth is the commanding officer of the force that just overtook the Imperialist government. His Saurellian brothers-in-arms and himself are waiting for their next assignment by indulging in their next favorite past time...sex. They frequent the pleasure houses and engage in various (and many)sexual acts with the pleasure workers. They are an unfulfilled lot as they can only be sexually sated by a Saurellian woman...the ratio of Saurellians is 4 Saurellian men born to one Saurellian woman born. Only a few men are lucky enough to find their life mate, so by the age of 25 most Saurellian men leave their home and enter the military to fight many a battle (their first favorite past time). Seth cannot stop thinking about, dreaming of, wanting more of Calla.

Calla's brother, Jess, is sold to work in the mines. She makes the decision to escape. After her friend, Dani, aides her in creating a new identity and getting her locator chip removed, she embarks on a new journey as a contracted pleasure worker to none other than Seth. He thinks this woman is Calla, but she tells him her name is Devora. He is pleased with Devora and she is his for 6 months.
Seth is on a secret mission. Devora is too.

Much more happens and feelings deepen between Seth and Devora. Read this book to find out what happens next.

Due to graphic sexual content, this book is for mature readers.

3.8 Stars. Free book. 9/17/15. I got this as an Amazon free book but it wasn't until I read another series by Ms. Wylde that I decided to pick this one up. This is an adult book that leans towards the smut end of the spectrum vs romance. If the story was a little bit stronger and the initial sex scene introduced differently you could probably swing it the other way but as it stands be prepared for smut with a story. The book was good with lots going on and never a dull moment. It's part of a series but if I had to guess this isn't the first book in that series. She covers information well enough so you know what's going on but at times you can tell you're not getting the full story. I'd read more of the series if the price was right.

Calla is a slave working in a boardinghouse on a distant world and her master is a cruel religious fanatic. The sector is under alien control after the human government started a fight they couldn't finish. The Saurellian's look a lot like us but they can only mate with their own kind. Since their female population is 1:4 the males not lucky enough to find a mate travel the universe fighting. They can seek pleasure else where but are never truly satisfied. When Calla and Seth a Saurellian commander have an unexpected sexual encounter she lies to protect herself. Slaves can never earn their freedom so when she has had enough she decides to take the risk and runs away. With the help of a friend she poses as a contracted sex worker to escape the planet.

Seth can't keep his hands off his new companion but she reminds him of Calla an escaped slave he had an amazing night with then lost. Together they travel the asteroid belt but with two separate missions. Lies and mistrust tear them apart yet they are linked in ways they didn't expect. Can they forgive past hurts and learn to trust one another.

This book deserves 4 stars. It is about Calla, a slave working at a hostel, who falls in love with Saurellian commander, Seth. Saurellians are looking for their lifemates to complete them but they can only be Saurellian women. Calla doesn't believe she has a chance at all with him. Things change when she changes her identity to Devora and follows him outside of her slave captivity to look for her best friend, Jess. This book had me hooked from the start. I'm normally a contemporary romance kinda girl but this one captured my interest. I just loved the hot scenes between Seth and Calla. Their chemistry was amazing. It was obvious that both of them both loved one another, but neither would say anything. Seth is a great alpha male and I love how much he wanted her with him, but would lie to himself that he didn't want her. For some reason though, at first I had a hard time determining whether or not the book was in the past or future. I don't know it seemed as if it could have been set in the past with the pilgrams and slaves. However, that did not take away from the book. I love how this book sets up the background for the next book. I got really hooked on the other characters and can't wait to read the next one. I really liked this book. It had everything...action, suspense, drama, and most importantly romance. Highly recommend this book.

I am going to give this one 3 stars. I loved the world that this book is in. The concept is GREAT. I loved the characters. I mean what is not to love? I mean, you have big badass alien alpha men, who are hot as hell and perform in bed like nobody's business. If an alien ever invaded I would want it to be like these guys. The chemistry between Calla and Seth is hot as hell. The side characters leave room for more books. I am dying to know what is going to happen in Jax' story. The chemistry their is also off the charts. I would love a story about Jess. This book is hot as hell. The sex in this book is off the charts. My only complaint is that I wish we would have gotten more background on Seth, on the worlds. At times it seemed the only thing that was happening was the sex between our couple. I would have loved for their to be more of the story itself. These worlds are amazing!! I would have like more background. I would have like more of a story with Calla and Seth. Sometimes it seemed like all they were about was the sex and lil more.

I found this story to be creative and original. Sexy. Very sexy. I think there is hot steamy action within the first couple of pages (like, go get some cold water & take a second action). I s'pose that's why I love Wylde so much. She doesn't have to toy around and hesitate with the action, stringing you along until the magical 2/3rds formula releases the whammy. She can open with lusty scenes and still nail it (excuse the pun) it terms of character and plot development. From where I'm sitting, I have to say that this speaks volumes about her talent as an author first and a writer in this genre second.

I read the Reapers books by this author (and loved them), and was looking for other books by the same author. Well, I really really wanted to love this book, I didn't. The Reapers books were written 10 years after these books, and obviously the writing style, content, e.t.c. has improved greatly.

This book was amateur basically. The Reapers books are in a totally different class (a much better class).

Maybe one day the author will rewrite these. I bought this book in a single book containing the series, I started the second book, but am not sure I'll finish it, it's the same style as this one.

Disappointed.

Not a bad book for a free Nook download, better than I thought it would be. Quick read, took me so long cause I was reading two books at once. Lots of steamy parts, plenty of action, and a decent well thought out plot. Will check to see if it is there is a next book, wouldn't mind learning about what happens to the other characters and see how things turn out for the main couple. Kind of liked how the religous fanatics where written, they reminded me of people I used to know who were just as closed minded. Book was a nice change of pace from all the paranormal I tend to read.

Nice beginning but who are the characters for real?? We get a bit of Calla´s story, some falshes of her relationship with Jess but that´s it.
As for Seth and the Saurellain race, we know NOTHING. Who are they, why they came, their purpose. We only know about their life-mate, or lack-of.
And the univers around, even less details.
I read Reper´s property before and loved it but this book was lacking. Too bad really, I liked the plot-

Calla, a slave at a hostel, finally gets fed up when her best friend gets sold, and flees. With the help of a friend, she gets a new name and the help to contract a safe passage of the planet to try and find her best friend. Little did she know that the soldier that contracts her is the one she can´t forget from the hostel.
Seth couldn´t say no to Calla the first time they met, and now this pleasure worker is reminding him of her in more than one way.
Sci fi, romance and smutty fluff.

It was okay. I had high expectations since Joanna Wylde (the author) wrote "Reaper's Property", which is by far one of my favorite reads of 2014. Plus I was kind of excited since it was about aliens.

To me the book was a bit all over the place. I didn't like the characters at all, they were too stupid to tell each other the truth so they lied to each other, thus causing problems that would've been easily avoided. And the cover is just horrendous.

Great book, with romance, adventure, deception and villians. One of the few books where I understood and agreed with the reasons for the hero and heroine keeping secrets. I rooted for them to get past the problems to be able to get to the happy ever after. And easily see a couple of other characters that are crying out for their own stories.
