Shannon Morrison’s dreams of becoming a lawyer are finally coming true. After landing a job at a prestigious law firm in Chicago, she’s willing to sacrifice everything, including putting her personal life on hold, as nothing will stand in her way of making partner. Nothing except perhaps the gorgeous Detroit Rockets’ All-Star catcher, Matt Buck.
Just when he didn’t think his luck would turn around, life finally throws Matt a fastball right down the middle, reconnecting him with the one girl who has always intrigued him. As before, the timing isn’t right, but Matt refuses to let this opportunity pass him by again. He knows Shannon’s career leaves little room for anything else in her life, but he’s unwilling to give in and will do whatever he can to make them work.
Together, Matt and Shannon struggle through one hurdle after another, determined to find a way to have everything they want. Just when they’ve finally figured it out, someone from Matt’s past shatters everything, and leaves them both grappling to pick up the pieces…
Rhonda owes her love of reading to her mother who would read to her each night before bed and sometimes give into her pleads for more than one chapter. These days, if Rhonda doesn't have a book in her hands, it feels like something is missing. While romance is her true passion, Rhonda enjoys reading multiple genres.
Shannon, Karen's younger half-sister, is a corporate lawyer (with billable hours and what not) working her butt off to make partner in a Chicago firm. She has no life. She meets up with Matt Buck, catcher for the Detroit Rockets and their attraction is sparked, but Shannon can't see it going anywhere so nothing comes of it. That is...until Matt suddenly shows up in Chicago and starts wooing her during his off-season. For the first time ever, Shannon is tempted away from the office and her dreams and falls head over heels for Matt (who admits he's only there for her). But then Shannon remembers what she's working for, and what her father has done in order to get her this opportunity and what she stands to lose if she gives in and starts a relationship with Matt. So she breaks it off. And promptly realizes what she's done wrong. So, in a show of good faith and love, Shannon quits her job and takes off for Matt's spring-training. But his past catches up to them and when Matt believes he won't ever be able to play ball again, he takes it out on her. They'll have to work extra hard, communicate and sacrifice in order to find a future together.
More drama this time, but slightly more entertaining. I like that Matt was so attracted and intrigued by Shannon that he basically went off to woo her (not fully understanding the demands of her job). Things go swimmingly well with only minor hesitations on Shannon's part until her father comes in and reminds her that she has responsibilities and since he pulled strings to get her a "dream job" (his, not hers) she better get her ass back to Chicago and get working. So she ends the relationship, breaking Matt's heart. Matt was honestly a sweetheart, but maybe a little blind to what he was asking Shannon to do. Granted, Shannon didn't really want to give up her life to the job, she only wanted her dad to be proud of her and that's what he wanted her to do. But if this had been Shannon's dream, and not her father's, that would have been a serious relationship ender right there. But Shannon does the unexpected and then all hell breaks loose, and the book takes a bit of a downward spiral. Matt's whacktastic ex shows up and shoots him in the leg and, while he's laying in a hospital bed grieving at the loss of the game and career that he loves, Shannon comes in and starts nagging him and making it all about her. Sure, she has legitimate complaints, but she fails to take into account how his current grief and emotions might affect his responses and overall general attitude. So when he doesn't react how she wants him to, she takes off. And despite claiming to love him, she never again goes back to talk to him, check in with him or see if he's feeling more in the mood to talk. And he spends the next 3 months trying to deal with his anger and possible future limitations before going after her. But then as soon as he finds out that she's going off to live daddy's dream again and won't have any time, he quits and takes off. This time though, it's good that he did. I really like that she was forced to look at her life and what she was doing and come to the realization that it wasn't HER dream. And then she stands up to her asshole father and takes back control of her life before going after Matt again. So while there were aspects of this story I didn't love, I liked the beginning and the end.

Caught by Rhonda ShawMy rating: 4 of 5 starsSometimes the simple things are the most important in life. I received Caught by Rhonda Shaw in exchange for an honest review. The couple in this story has to face many obstacles. Matt is a well known celebrity in baseball. Shannon is just beginning her career as a lawyer. Coordinating their schedules is not easy. Matt is at a point in his life where he wants more than screaming fans and away games. He wants a life beyond the bright lights. Shannon wants an established career and is willing to sacrifice a personal life in order to obtain her dream. I loved this story. Caught is a story about appreciating the gift of life and discovering what is important. Wonderful story.View all my reviews
Great Story Shannon is a lawyer working in a corporate law firm in Chicago. The only thing she has time for is work. When she gets reacquainted with Matt at her sister’s wedding, she knows she can’t afford a relationship, but maybe a hot flirtation will work. Matt is the catcher for the Detroit Rockets. Unlike Shannon, all he’s ever wanted is to settle down and have a family. When he can’t Shannon out of his mind, he does the next best thing, he goes to Chicago to get her to give them a chance. This story pits the characters a little bit differently than in a typical story: the guy wants a family and the woman is very career driven and wanting no complications in her life. I really liked the change-up, especially since it’s a bigger trend in today’s world. Shannon is basically missing out on living while trying to earn her father’s impossible approval. It’s mainly through Matt’s determination that she is able to see what she is missing and truly wants. I really liked these characters as well all of the supporting characters. Great book and world the author has created. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes this genre. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review**
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This is book three in the Men of the Show series but can be read as a standalone which I did. Now I want to go back and read the others!!
Is there ever the perfect time to fall in love? What are we willing to compromise/sacrifice in order to hang on to the chance of something wonderful?
The story follows the burgeoning relationship between professional baseball player Matt Buck and up and coming lawyer Shannon Morrison. I confess I know next to nothing about baseball but the game scenes did not detract from my enjoyment of the story whatsoever.
I loved Matt; he is one fine specimen of man candy. He’s also kind, generous and family orientated but a bit on the stubborn side! Well, he can’t be too perfect.
Shannon has a heart of gold and is very career driven, but is also family orientated like Matt. Although is she following the career path she wants or that of her father?!? This is point of conflict in the story.
Our couple face obstacle after obstacle in their pursuit of a HEA. Throw in lashings of sexual chemistry, crazy exes and disapproving family members until you have one riveting read from start to finish. I can’t wait to read more by this author!
Rhonda Shaw has done it again in a story filled with baseball, romance and a woman who desperately needs some good loving. I loved that even though Matt is a big time baseball player he still dreams of simple things. Now Shannon was a little hard to like at first because no matter how much Matt was there for her she slowly budged very little. Even though Shannon was a little hard to like I loved that Rhonda Shaw was able to not bring in other charcters like his best friend, their marriage and seeing that happily ever after does exist. All in all it was a really good book and can`t wait for more from this talented author.
Shannon Morrison always wanted to be a lawyer, more specifically a partner in a big firm, and she was on her way to becoming that. Matt Buck is an all-star catcher for the Detroit Rockets and baseball is his life but he also is ready to get married and start a family. Shannon and Matt don't appear to be a likely couple, after all they live in different cities and both have demanding careers. Oh, and don't forget Matt has a stalker ex-girlfriend. I enjoyed this story and really need to read the first 2 in the series now.

Baseball, lawyers, stalker ex-girlfriends…. this book has it all. It was a fun summer read. I enjoyed this romance but it was a tad predictable. If you are looking for an easy afternoon read to just let your cares float away (& we all need that sometimes) this a the perfect book for that.
