Ladies and gents, we interrupt whatever the hell I was reading to review Jem and the Holograms #2.

The great thing with this series is the diversity. Not just the overall racial diversity, but there are plus-sized heroines, lesbian heroines (if that freaks you out, too bad. It's 2015. Get over it), and even a character who's a highly-functioning illiterate. Not only that but the band members of each group are not treated as window dressing. And they're friends who are more interested in their car

oh my god??? oh my god!!!! this issue was even better than the first!! love the updated looks for the misfits, and I was practically squealing as soon as Kimber called Stormer cute and talked about wanting to date her. once they started flirting and actually went on a coffee date, I had decided I need everyone in my life to read these comics.
it's so refreshing to see lgbt+ couples depicted just as well as straight couples, and I loved that Kimber picked out Stormer as the cutest when Stormer is

I could be out of touch here, and maybe I am, but I am having serious problems with this critically acclaimed iteration of Jem and the Holograms when it comes to believing in the ages / maturity of Jerrica and her sisters.

I have an eight year old daughter, a thirteen year old daughter, and I spend much of my time around 18-20-something women, and there are times in Jem and the Holograms when any of the characters could be any of those ages. The most consistently mature is Jerrica, but even she

The only thing this comic is lacking is an actual soundtrack. It does a great job of giving personality to the other girls, not just the one that is the main face of either band, which is impressive. If you are going to create 8 girls who are seen in the comic, then give all 8 girls a chance to shine. This is only comic 2 and you know more about Kimber and Stormer than you did in the original cartoons first season. Great chemistry between characters, great offsets to one another. I'm looking for ...more

Well, that was fun. I do enjoy how some of the ladies have a bit of weight on them in this version and wonderful curves. I also enjoy the colors.

The "Misfits Vs!" contest that this all leads up to will be great fun.

In this issue, we are introduced to the Misfits.  The girls video is getting tons of hits in an online competition hosted by the Misfits.  Jem and Company agree to help a community center by performing.  A reporter is sniffing around Jem and the girls. Jerrica agrees to go on a date with him. And finally, Stormer from the Misfits goes and has coffee with one of the girls from Jem and the Holograms. (I’m terrible with names so it
I had pre-ordered this but last time I pre-ordered an issue it took weeks to arrive so yesterday I rushed off to get a copy of this on release day and made it with 10 minutes to spare! Another GORGEOUS issue! So lovely to see Sophie's name on the inside cover! She did just a wonderful job with the art work. I adore the way the misfits look! They are all stunning! So much more variety than the original look. The way the videos were done was glorious, so much colour and the way it all flowed reall ...more

Introducing the Misfits--and they are perfect! I was always more of a Jem fan than a Misfits fan but how can you have a great heroine without a worthy opponent? This series is shaping up to be truly truly truly outrageous.

-Also Starlight community centre was a lovely update of the Starlight foundation.
-Ban-lee and Ashley. Such a flashback.

(also never watched the original show and somehow didn't realize until RIGHT NOW that Hannah Montana is Jem minus the sci-fi and the diversity and the extremely great fashion, which is to say, whatever, just read this comic; it's adorbs)

My interest in the series kind of waned. Not enough hologram etc., too much teenage baseless drama.

This issue is better, and I'm not just saying it because of the Misfits. Or maybe I do. The dynamics between the characters are more approachable than I remember and the Misfits are so much fun to read. Stormer's design means the world to me (a character who has a body similar to mine and rocks it? who knew that was possible in media?!) and it's nice to see Pizzazz keeps her temper intact. It's really good to see the relationship between Kimber and Stormer is going to be respectfully developed a ...more

Even better than the first.

Great balance of bringing a story to current times while still keeping the main feel of it the same. Visually, the graphic rocks through the pages just as good as the TV show. Can't wait to read the next one with my daughter.

More of the same, see my review of the first issue. This series just keeps getting better. I cannot get enough.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite comic series out there. I didn't watch Jem growing up, and I still really enjoy what this team is doing.

In volume 2 we meet the updated Misfits. I read somewhere that Jetta's original concept was a black character but that got changed, and it's clear the comic creators are familiar with the source material and did their homework before bringing it to life. Jetta is black, and she's with the Misfits from the onset. I'm on the fence about the situation because although she's one of my favorite Jem characters and I was glad to see her early on, I really loved the competition for new band members and ...more

Another good read. I really liked the art work, although I liked the first book more. I enjoyed the story line more on this one and the ending was very surprising. I think the series is getting interesting. This one was Christmas themed, so there is that. I like how the story is developing and it's becoming more than just a mindless comic. It's more of a light summer read than a comic. I've never read a comic that builds on itself like a book. The Archie books I read in my youth never seemed to ...more

Intro~es The Misfits, for some reason Roxy's profile doesn't fill in her full name as "Roxanne"

Kimber having a lil hang-out time with Stormer is clearly already a shout-out to that one episode of the orig show!

Jem And The Holograms Volume 2
PLOT: The Misfits are caught off guard when they hear the new online sensation Jem and the Holograms. Rio (a reporter for The Source) gets closer to Jerrica and tension builds with one of her girl's (Ashley). Kimber find's a building attraction to keyboardist Stormer of the Misfits. And Jerrica agrees to have Jem and the Holograms at a fundraiser that will save the community center.

Here's the thing about Jem and the Holograms comics - I may not be particularly in love with the story, but the art for this comic is LITERALLY some of the prettiest art I have EVER seen in a comic. That alone makes this series worth checking out.

Now, onto the actual review. This issue deals with Jem and her sisters dealing with the repercussions of using the Hologram technology to create their music video for the Battle of the Bands contest against The Misfits, and if they made the right decisi

They are the Misfits, their songs are better.

It only took the second issue to bring The Misfits front and center as they are recording their video for the competition. As is expected, Pizzazz is going berserk.

Rio is hanging around, as he is writing an article on the band, but after some comments is thrown out by Pizzazz.

The Misfits are shocked when they discover the Jem and the Holograms video that made it in to the contest just under the wire and is getting allot of support.

To this point, the o

These comics are KILLING IT.

So adorable and cute and Kimber + Stormer 5ever.

I love that we are getting to know EACH of the girls in the Misfits and the Holograms way better than in the original series. (And this is after only about ~62 pages total.)

I love that the Starlight Foundation and the girls you might remember are here too. (Ba Nee and Ashley so far.)

It's everything I wanted from the movie that it's clear we aren't going to even come close to getting.

It's Contagious

I am a huge Jem fan but I have never been in to comics. But I have heard nothing but great things about the Jem comic and my tumblr feed was full of pics from the comic and I loved the artwork so I decided to give it a try and I am so happy that I did. Love this modern take on one of my favorite cartoons.

The introduction of the Misfits and Rio graced this issue. Those Misfits have some intense looks. Especially Pizzazz. Her look is totally emo inspired. Rio is as charming as ever. He ends up getting Jerrica to go out with him. It was cool to see these characters reemerged.
