Before you sit down to read this historical romance I highly suggest you gather some tissues as this gut wrenching and heart breaking story will have you crying just as it made me cry. Her Sweetest Downfall was a great 5 star read.
Historical Romance, Ugly Cry, Alpha Male

The notion of giving birth in the middle of war didn’t appeal to her, nor did the thought of conceiving a baby with him.

This was a great historical read. It is a story of love, pain and heartbreak during a war.

This is the first time reading anything by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed this great story. This story is so touching that you will have tears in your eyes well reading it. It will grab you hook, line, and sinker and hold in its pages from start to finish. The characters are amazing and the story plot had everything a reader wants from love, heartache , trust, and hurt. This story is mainly about Viola Craft's and her husband who is much older then her. Viola marriage is just one of the duti ...more

Viola Craft’s marriage is one of duty and heartache, and desperately trying to please her older husband, Vernon. Despite all of her efforts, however, he still wants the one thing that she cannot–and will not–give him. This book is the slow-motion tumble of lives under siege.

At times, Her Sweetest Downfall was challenging to read. Not because of any problems with the writing; much the contrary. The difficulties between the protagonist and her husband are well-rendered, and her indecision about wh

This story started out with so many feelings! The characters we're set in a time of a Nazi war and it brings out the life of a girl who experienced it an the hardships of the war and the era she lived in! You follow her through the story of her love triangle and you experience her joys and heartache with her. I did not expect the ending but was happy to discover she found happiness and moved towards closure. I really enjoyed the bo

I normally can't get in to historical romance but this wasn't like anything I read. Well a bit of gone with the wind in way. But trust me it's original and packed full of twists and turn and so very well written. I won this paperback and was just blown away by this book. Absolutely loved it. Amazing story great characters and author puts you right in London in this time era.

"I guess we're birds with broken wings, unable to fly away"

I haven't ventured much into historical fiction but this book was a game changer. So raw and filled with so much emotion. Wallace creates genuine, 3-dimensional characters that you love and hate and cry for and cry with.

This is a book you will not want to put down as you read through all the twists and turns!

My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Her Sweetest Downfall was a beautifully written historical romance set in London in the WWII era.  I loved the way the story actually made you feel like you were there walking the streets and ducking into shelters when the sirens went off. Feeling the pain, fear and uncertainly that only a war could give you.

Caught in the middle of all this turmoil is the heroine, Viola.  Stuck in a loveless and abusive marriage she spends her days working in her mother’s dress sho

Her Sweetest Downfall is a well written, emotive, bittersweet story and although it is a historical romance a genre which I don't typically read admittedly the author pulled me in and didn't let go until the very last page.

At the height of the London blitz during World War 2, Viola Craft, a sexually repressed young woman trapped in a loveless marriage to her God fearing husband Vernon. She's spends her days working in her mothers dress shop while her husband works on the rescue crews pulling the

The time period of this book is during World War II, when Germany is bombing England. Viola is married to Vernon, she works in her mother's dress shop, and Vernon volunteers with the group that helps pull people out of the debris after the bombings, dead or alive. He wants a child very badly, she does not. Her mother, Gertrude, thinks that she should give her husband what he wants, because that is her job. She sides with Vernon on what Viola should do, even when Viola tells her about how things ...more

This story left me with bittersweet thoughts. Viola to me suffered so much to only get a piece of happiness. Yes, she does get a man that loves her but not the soulmate she deserves. After all she goes through to survive and maintain a sane mind; she needed a great outcome to her life.
Her husband and mother don’t respect her emotions or body. They only see what they can get from her and nothing more. That leaves you wondering why she stayed so long and suffered in silence. Even though it’s the

Viola, Vernon, Kristoff, a love triangle during WWII. It has all the stuff Historical Romance Readers like; A villain, a hero, and a heroine. It also has lots of drama, plot twists, and WTF moments. The setting in London during The Blitz is well written and I could picture myself in the thick of things and it was easy to get lost in the story. The characters were well rounded and while the villain was despicable, you could at times glimpse who he had been in the past (though I still hated him). ...more

I have to say this book had me on page one. It is a story of love and war, pain and heartbreak, survival and revival. It really had me to the point I just did not want to put it down.

Viola in her own right is lost. She is living in the time of war and with a husband who tries to care but falls short. She falls in love with another man and together they become a family. Loss after loss brings her to her final destination and to me as a reader it seems like a place of much needed peace.

After finishing high school, Kellie moved to the sunny Northern Beaches from the Central Coast and carved a successful career in the media/advertising industry writing for numerous Sydney based publications.
