The notion of giving birth in the middle of war didn’t appeal to her, nor did the thought of conceiving a baby with him.
This was a great historical read. It is a story of love, pain and heartbreak during a war.

This story started out with so many feelings! The characters we're set in a time of a Nazi war and it brings out the life of a girl who experienced it an the hardships of the war and the era she lived in! You follow her through the story of her love triangle and you experience her joys and heartache with her. I did not expect the ending but was happy to discover she found happiness and moved towards closure. I really enjoyed the bo ...more
I haven't ventured much into historical fiction but this book was a game changer. So raw and filled with so much emotion. Wallace creates genuine, 3-dimensional characters that you love and hate and cry for and cry with.
This is a book you will not want to put down as you read through all the twists and turns!

Her Sweetest Downfall was a beautifully written historical romance set in London in the WWII era. I loved the way the story actually made you feel like you were there walking the streets and ducking into shelters when the sirens went off. Feeling the pain, fear and uncertainly that only a war could give you.
Caught in the middle of all this turmoil is the heroine, Viola. Stuck in a loveless and abusive marriage she spends her days working in her mother’s dress sho

This story left me with bittersweet thoughts. Viola to me suffered so much to only get a piece of happiness. Yes, she does get a man that loves her but not the soulmate she deserves. After all she goes through to survive and maintain a sane mind; she needed a great outcome to her life.
Her husband and mother don’t respect her emotions or body. They only see what they can get from her and nothing more. That leaves you wondering why she stayed so long and suffered in silence. Even though it’s the ...more
Viola in her own right is lost. She is living in the time of war and with a husband who tries to care but falls short. She falls in love with another man and together they become a family. Loss after loss brings her to her final destination and to me as a reader it seems like a place of much needed peace.
