I'm not so sure how i felt about this book...

It wasn't a bad story, but it wasn't great also...
I think it was somewhere in the middle...
I was having high expectations about this book, but it didn't work for me!!!

I'm not so sure why that happened... but something bothered me in the most part of the book!!!

First of all, i didn't like the fact that in the blurb was written a storyline that intrigue me, but i didn't see it until near to the end!!!

Review by Lisa Kane

Tatum is a sophomore in high school and has had a sheltered life due to her parent's strict upbringing for her. When the big time football player starts to pay attention to her, she is swept away by her feelings. But he isn't what he seems and she will suffer from that. But she turns to Zack who has always been there for her. He has a huge secret-his family is connected to the mob. Where will all of this lead? This one is a cliffy but I am anxious to see how this YA romance tu

You have to open your eyes to take in what you are overlooking. Girl Spoken For is a refreshing Young Adult read. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but the premise called to me and I ended up liking it quite a bit. The writing was pretty solid, the characters were interesting and well crafted, and the story line its was laid out well so Girl Spoken For gets a comfortable 4 star rating from me.

The story is told from Tatum's point of view and is the first book in the series. Tatum is a sophomo

Girl Spoken For is the beginning of a new YA trilogy by Suzie T. Roos that I was granted an early release copy of from Netgalley. I have to admit that I was intrigued by the title of this book. It is what drew me to it and of course the blurb on the back cemented my desire to read this book. I kept going back and looking at the cover and trying to determine what about it kept drawing my attention. Even as I read it I kept going back to it. I finally figured it out after I finished the book and w ...more

I wasn't sure what I was letting myself in for when I started reading Girl Spoken For, I normally read modern young adult books so when I started reading and noticed the date, I was worried that I wasn't going to enjoy it, but I was actually very surprised, not only did I enjoy this book I frigging loved it!!

Tatum Duncan is very naive, her parents are strict, kind of restricting her view of the world. When hot football star Kyle

“Girl Spoken For” is a debut YA book by Suzie T. Roos that delivers a worthy reading experience. Well written, from first page to last you experience the 1980’s through the first person eyes of sixteen year old Tatum Duncan. She’s lost her best friend and confidant, her grandmother, and living with her impossibly strict parents can be a real drag on a girl’s self-esteem.
When the star football player at her high school becomes Tatum’s boyfriend, for once things in her life are going good. Until,

Tatum Duncan is a teen on that sometimes hard to navigate road of growing up. After losing her confidant/grandmother, she attempts to move forward by hanging out with friends and dating a new boyfriend. But she makes the mistake of trusting the wrong guy. When her new boyfriend assaults her, she turns to longtime friend and sexy loner Zack. Zack is a good guy and cares for Tatum, but Zack has a few skeletons in his closet too. Namely he’s a member of a long-time mob family.

Girl Spoken For is a YA novel with romantic elements that will have you turning the pages past your bedtime.

Struggling to overcome her grief for her recently passed grandmother, sophomore Tatum Duncan only wants to live a normal life and hang out with her friends. Her mom’s constant harping about her fashion choices and fitting in doesn’t help so when the star of the football team asks Tatum Duncan to go out with him, she hopes things will finally work themselves out after all. Except that Kyle

This is an exciting 1980's story of sweet, innocent Tatum Duncan as she faces the changes growing up in high school can bring. From her first boyfriend who turns out to be a wolf in football gear to the love of her life, Zack Bertano, I like the way Tatum fights to keep control of her life and herself. Zack is such a great bad boy/good guy hero, who thinks only of his love for Tatum when he 'Speaks' for her with his Mob 'Family'. But Tatum's fear of the 'Family' and losing control may tear the c ...more

DNF at 40%

First off, the book's description on Goodreads is very misleading. 40% into the book and there is no mention of the mob or Tatum being spoken for (Zach himself has barely been mentioned as of yet).

I chose to stop reading here for a myriad of reasons. I just couldn't connect to Tate or any of the characters. Up until right before I stopped, Tate came across as melodramatic and whiny. Supposedly, Tate's mom is horrible toward her, but besides her seeming to care more about appearances th

I have Spoken For this story! This is a mixture between YA with some scenes that could move it into the NA category. I absolutely love that this is set in 1989. So refreshing! Tatum is a sophomore in high school and has just lost her best friend, her grandmother. She has always embraced being different and being her own person. She ends up with Kyle, the super hot jock. She then thinks that everything is great and how she is so lucky that he wants her. Tatum is extremely naive and keeps trying t ...more

I can't and won't review this book. I'm too upset to even really form the right words, but... I am so disappointed in this book. I found so many things wrong with it. But I don't slander books. I will just say that it wasn't for me. At all. We're not compatible.

I don't even know what to say... I really don't.

I've never heard of Suzie T. Roos before, and I hope that this isn't the only thing that she's written. I will always give an author another chance, so I am willing to read something else

This book perpetuates one of my all time bookish pet peeves, when we are told something in the synopsis of the book that does not become present until quite a way into the book or, as was the case here, almost at the very end of the book.

I had some other problems with this book as well. I thought both the pacing and the dialogue were off and all the characters just seemed like caricatures.

All of the side characters of Tatum's friends were severely underdeveloped, they all bled together

I have some very mixed feelings about this book. It was a compelling, fast read, but just never quite lived up to what I thought was its potential. While this is a YA read, there wasn 19t exactly the normal over dramatized angst I often get from YA books. The two main characters were pretty good, and so were many of Tate 19s friends, though everyone had some critical flaws in my eyes too. The story is open ended, but does not leave off on a cliffhanger! The only way I see this continuing as a se ...more

I received this free eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Hmmm... I'm conflicted by this novel. First, the whole Mobster thing doesn't even happen until the end of the novel.

Second (I'm just coming right out and spoiling this since I was blindsided by it) TATUM GETS RAPED. I'm not a fan of this subject, and I stay far away from books about this topic. The synopsis did not forewarn me about this, so I'm letting everyone know if this read this and also do not like the topic.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either. I'm sort of somewhere in the middle and I'm actually feeling a little dissatisfied with the story as a whole. Going from the description of the story, I thought this was going to be way more exciting than it was, especially with a mob family being a part of the element. But the realization that Zach was part of a mob family didn't even become clear until about the last two chapters or so of the

This book was so awesome! I could not put it down. I literally read all night with no breaks. I don't read a lot of YA but loved this. Even is set in the 80s! Zach is so protective and is most definitely a leader. And don't even get me started in Kyle. Man, I kept waiting for her to kick him in the balls. I am addicted to this series now. I can't wait for the next book. This book is a must read, but be prepared to be up all night!

This book started out not bad. The character was a bit different but totally felt like a 15yr old. The mom was a bit over the top and definitely not likeable, but still not too bad. However, about 28% into the book, an incident took place where there was no warning to the readers. Had I been aware, I wouldn't have chosen this book.
