Elämä on rankkaa. Pientenkin lasten elämä on rankkaa.

Lastenkirjallisuus kaipaa tällaisiakin kir ...more

I love Dani!
One of my favorite quotes:
"Dani has never visited the island, but she's been wanting to go there her whole life. Without even knowing."
And these are some of the cutest illustrations I have ever laid eyes on.
Recommended.

Haikein Dunne-kirja, mutta edelleen yhtä hurmaava. Nelososaa malttamattomana odotellen.

Dunne on ihana, mutta kovin isoja murheita kirjoitettu pienelle tytölle. Siksi ei neljää tähteä... vähän liian liikuttava minulle. Kirjan nimi antoi odottaa ihan toisenlaista tarinaa. Ihana kuvitus. Tämän luettua tekisi mieli ottaa joku syliin ja lohduttaa.

Dunne-sarja jatkuu yhtä tasokkaana. Nämä on ihan järisyttäviä tunnemyrskyisine minimalistisuuksineen.

Another illustrated chapter book for young readers in the series that features the sweet-natured Dani. She has a positive outlook on life and can usually find the ‘up’ side of most situations that would leave other kids out-of-sorts.

Dani lives with her father, and the pair care for each other. Occasionally she feels different from other children in her class who have mothers. Dani can’t remember much about her mother who died when she was little, although she has the loving support of her grandp

These books about Dani are so charming and without guile, unafraid to tackle tough issues like bullying, death and accidents but told with so much light and humour shining through every incident;. Dani is such a delightful character and the stories told with deep simplicity. I am reading the series to a class of 8 year olds and they love them. Swedish author Rose Lagercrantz has a refreshing approach to children's literature - unflinching but completely age appropriate, she never patronizes the ...more

Third book about Dani. She continues to find the happy in life even when negative things happen. A serious accident occurs when Dani's dad is hit by a car. She learns about this on the next to last day of school. Readers see how she copes and get to see her break down and cry though she doesn't like to. The emotional undercurrents continue and make for excellent dialogue opportunities as a family or class. ...more

Dani's Dad gets hurt and has to go to the hospital. She has to stay with her Grandpa and Grandma and she misses him alot. She meets her cousin at her Grandparent's house and they get along. She sees her Dad at the hospital and he is getting better!

Dani is done with school and she finished her happy book where she puts all her happy memories! And she is going to visit her friend Ella for the summer. I can't wait to read about them together again in the next book!

I love all these 'Dani' books and this one is no exception!
The art is adorable, the story is simple and yet, sometimes, sneakily profound.
It's the sort of book you read as a kid then read as an adult and go, "Oh! How crafty, I missed that!"

Not worth losing a star over but I swear, I absolutely swear, that those are guinea pigs and not hamsters! No hamster ever gets that large! I stand by my convictions!! :P

Recommended for all lovers of warm & fuzzy novels!

Sarjassa seurataan Dunnen seikkailuja koulussa ja ystävyyden kiemuroita. Kirjoittaja osaa taitavasti kuvata lapsen tunteita, jopa tavallisen koulupäivän aikana koetaan aikamoisia tunnemyrskyjä. Ihana kuvitus tukee tarinoita. Tässä osassa tarvitaan nessuja.

Selviytyjä-Dunne. Hieno kuvaus järkytyksestä ja surusta lapsen näkökulmasta. Minusta Lagercrantz-Eriksson tekijäkaksikkoa voi jo hyvin verrata Lindgren-Wikland tekijäpariin, niin taitavasti molemmat käsittelevät vaikeita asioita. Kuvitus ja teksti kulkevat rintarinnan.

As promised, my first title of the year is a Junior Fiction! I picked up this short novel knowing I could read it on my lunch break. I judged it completely on it's cover and size! I've been lamenting to anyone who will listen that I'm tired of youth literature where the parent(s) are dead or die. Well, it smacked me right in the face. This expressively written book is about Dani, a kindergarten student looking forward to her last day of school. Her mother is dead, she lives with her father and h ...more

This book was extremely odd to me. I'm wondering how others felt? I found it very strange how blunt everyone was in talking about how Dani's father had been RUN OVER. I also thought it wasn't quite right that Dani seemed to get over all of it so thoroughly at the end of the book when she's getting excited to go to Ella's island for the summer. At first she is concerned about leaving her father, but then it seems her concern flies right out the window. The book ended abruptly, and without closure ...more

Lagercrantz has written another cute book about the joys and sorrows of a young girl. As school ends for the year, Dani is focused on finishing the book about the year that she has been writing, but she's having trouble coming up with a good ending. Just as she looks to finish, she finds out her father has been badly injured in an accident and the book becomes secondary. One thing that the author and illustrator do well is how real the feelings of this little girl are, along with the ups and dow ...more

Dani is excited that the end of school has arrived. As she says goodbye to her teacher and classmates on the second-to-last day of school, she decides to finish writing a book about how happy she is. But the usually upbeat youngster is devastated to learn that her father has been in an accident and is now in the hospital. Even though others try to comfort her, she can't stop crying and worrying about her father. A visit to the hospital reassures her, but really, what helps restore her happiness ...more

From the title I knew this book was about emotions, but I was a bit taken aback at how emotional I found it. My heart broke at just how hard Dani found her dad being ill. The expressive illustrations raised the already high quality story that bit higher, making me teary-eyed for over half the book. I think it is good for readers who find themselves in the same situation – when worries are kept inside it can really change a person, but as Dani discovers talking and doing things helped get her th ...more
